Today we have a few updates related to spells, as well as a couple bug fixes that we've pushed out throughout the week. The biggest updates include support for Green-Flame Blade and Booming Blade-like spells, and the ability to add spells to your Ritual Caster or Book of Ancient Secrets spell books. Many of these updates were pushed out last week (including tracking exhaustion levels), but many of the spell specific updates are new as of today.
Additions:
- You now have the ability to view the bonus effects from spells like Green-Flame Blade and Booming Blade from your weapons. You can even homebrew your own spells that behave similarly. These weapons will also now be identified properly in the character sheet, and will not show up as Actions on their own. (As they must coincide with a weapon melee attack)
- Ritual Caster feats, as well as the Warlock's Book of Ancient Secrets invocation will now allow you to add additional spells beyond the initial spells granted. You can select these in the character builder.
- Your homebrew features across Feats, Racial Traits, and Class Features can also take advantage of this new feature.
- You can now specify exhaustion levels in the character sheet.
- UI updates will also let you know your character has died at exhaustion level 6.
- There is a new restore life functionality in the health manager sidebar when you are dead. It will let you choose to revive at 1 hp or full hp.
- Long rest sidebar now has a checkbox if you want to reduce a level of exhaustion by 1.
- Long rest and short rest sidebar UI controls will change to restore life controls if you are dead.
Fixes:
- Spells will no longer show up as ritual spells if the character's class cannot cast them as rituals. The exceptions are if a spell is granted through a feature that specifies that the spell can or must be cast as a ritual.
- Fixed a bug where casting a spell using a Pact Magic slot was not properly consuming the appropriate spell slot.
- Include "Carry Capacity > Multiplier" modifiers in Variant Encumbrance calculations.
- Implement "Speed Reduction > Remove" modifier.
- Change "Push/drag/lift" warning message in the equipment section to "Over carry capacity" for normal encumbrance when you exceed the carry capacity. This also removed the speed set to 5 when you exceed the carry capacity.
- Show limited use spells with a casting time of "Action" in limited use section.
- Fix condition immunity display in defense manager sidebar and defense summary caused by the recent exhaustion level updates.
This is amazing, thank you!
Thank you. The hard work is very much appreciated :)
Great work! Now if we could just have that filter for non-Concentration spells please :)
Thank you!
It looks like the Book of Ancient Secrets is giving me the option to add three spells. Is this correct? Or am I missing something?
[Edit]: Nevermind. I see it keeps adding more as I select spells. So obviously it gives me the two spells that I learn when I take the invocation and then more slots open up for the rituals that one finds in the game and inscribe in the book.
Thanks
Should a paladin's Divine Smite be handled the same way? It's technically not an action either, and must coincide with a melee weapon attack.
Cor blimey! That's rippa!
Australia speak for awesome.
Spells like Green-Flame Blade and Booming Blade are not compatible however with Extra Attack (since they require the Cast a spell action, not Attack action); As such, the # attacks per action would not be correct when using the weapon attack in combo with the spell. I don't know what can be done about this, but thought I should mention it. Seems unavoidable that some players (and perhaps DMs) will get confused by these spells as shown.

That’s a really good point. Ideally this would work the other way around: it should just be listed as a spell rather than an attack, and when you dive into details you can see info about your melee weapon attacks that you can use with it. Still clunky but at least correct, these are definitely not a rider that can be applied to attacks as you see fit (like Divine Smite or Sneak Attack)
I am not seeing these on any of the character sheets. Is this live?
All appears on mine.
If you go into the Conditions sidebar, Exhaustion is down the bottom :)
If the logic for including these warlock spells in the attack sidebar for certain weapons is “these are spells which may make use of this melee weapon attack”, then surely all the Paladin smite spells should go in there too? (Searing Smite, Thunderous Smite etc).
If the logic is “here are things that may add to damage of this attack” (which makes more sense), then it should definitely include things like Divine Smite, Sneak Attack, Divine Favour etc etc.
Just trying to understand the principles here, help me out!
Exhaustion is a bit tricky, and it can be hard to remember what level does what, and (especially in the mobile view) it is very inconvenient to always check, especially in parts that automatically reflect certain modifiers:
In general, is it possible that conditions are reflected in the corresponding areas of the sheet? Movement and Saving Throws should be the most straightforward; ability checks and skill checks could get the small red D next to the modifier; attack rolls could get a similar indicator. If this is doable, it could also reflect disadvantage on stealth checks wearing certain armour, or disadvantage on Dex/Str based ability checks, saving throws and attack rolls when wearing armour not proficient with.
Oh, and conditions that are included by other conditions should also appear (i.e. Paralyzed, Petrified, Stunned, Unconscious all say you are Incapacitated)
The thing is, there are several mechanisms, and they all work slightly differently:
So in short, effects you choose to use after you hit; effects that allows/requires you to also make an attack; and effects that will modify a separate attack. The first group should probably be listed on the Attacks list (optionally with their counters if they have limited use). The second group are probably better off as a spell that indicates that "includes / make a weapon attack". The third group is the trickiest, and it would mean the character sheets should track spell effects currently active on you, thus I think it's either outside of the feature goals, or would be introduced at a way later milestone.
Also a small toggle on the spells page to mark whether you are concentrating on a spell would be good too. (Wouldn't even dream of like, remembering the last concentration spell used, and automatically updating with another one if cast).
Hi guy's, I had no idea where to post this but maddening hex and relentless hex bring up an error every time I try to apply them.
Can anyone help me out
I believe this is related to a fix that's coming out later today. If you PM me your character link I can confirm.
Those invocations are part of XGtE, and require a purchase of the full source or a Warlock subclass within XGtE to access them. Currently there's a bug where those show up for some users who haven't purchased the required content, but when the invocations are chosen an error pops up as the user doesn't have access. If you haven't purchased the XGtE source, or a Warlock subclass within XGtE, you won't have access to those invocations.

I agree, and you should probably copy these suggestions in the forum : Character Sheet revamp feedback (in case they're missed here)
I totally agree, I’m just trying to understand why they implemented it they way they have. I know there are a lot of warlocks using DDB but singling out their style of spells to sit under a weapon attack seems an odd thing to shoehorn in. If you’re going to do that, at least make it work for spells like Divine Favor that affect every attack.
Great update! Not exactly sure how the encumbrance section works, though - does it work according to the rules or...?
