Hello everyone!
I wanted to briefly mention a couple of updates we have released in the last couple of days that are pretty significant - the re-introduction of swiping in the digital character sheet on mobile and a new system to redeem product keys to unlock content.
Mobile Swiping
While on the mobile or tablet view of the character sheet, you can now either use the quick-jump navigation button in the bottom right corner or gesture to swipe to subsequent sections. Now that swiping moves you between sections, the sidebar is now manually pulled out with an additional button in the lower right of the screen (the sidebar will continue to come out whenever you tap a relevant word/ area for more details).
These changes are a response to a large amount of feedback we received following the sheet revamp release where many users missed swiping, but nearly as many shared they enjoyed the quick-jump nav. With this solution, we are trying to provide a hybrid that we hope will make both camps happy with navigating the sheet.
As always, we will keep an eye on the feedback and make adjustments as needed, but we think this new option brings us to a good place!
Product Key Redemption
We have also introduced a new system to redeem product keys to unlock D&D Beyond content that will immediately be used for purchasers of the Waterdeep Dragon Heist Platinum Edition box from Beadle & Grimm's to unlock the digital version of the adventure on DDB. If you haven't seen that product, I definitely encourage you to check it out!
You can redeem keys from the Marketplace > Redeem a Key menu or dndbeyond.com/marketplace/redeem-key.
Other opportunities to redeem product keys will be available in the future, and we will share more on that as we can.
Thanks all!
Nice - and the best thing about this is that now I can close the sidebar with a button insted of swiping, which occasionally was taken as navigating back by my browser.
This! That has been a constant struggle for me, since I have large hands and fingers so my accuracy is not as great as I’d like.
Anyways, thank you so much for being so open to feedback. This certainly seems like a great solution for me, personally. Seems like the best parts of both the old and new formats.
I really hope this redemption thing isn't a capitulation to the demands of a certain vocal minority.
Lol. If some nutter wants to pay $500 for a fancy box set version of an adventure then they shoild get something more than a few extra maps and handouts. A code for a digital copy here is a nice add. I dont see WotC adding codes to all new products and thereby bumping the prices, but it's a great idea for specials like this.
When swiping, you have to swipe inside the section's container or it doesn't work
Why does the quick jump navigation key not display in the bottom right hand corner when my iPad is in landscape? Very annoying as it sits landscape on the table so now there no way to navigate to spells/inventory/actions etc.... any help or suggestions?
It sounds like you are in a 1024 or higher resolution while in landscape, which should display the "desktop" version of the sheet. If that is the case, there is no navigation needed because every section is already accessible from the one view.
If this is not what's happening, we'd like to get some more details to figure it out.
Thanks!
The change to the section at the top for AC etc is a step in the right direction, thanks! Advantage on initiative green dice icon is looking a little messy now though, that may have been missed.
I’m still not convinced that Prof bonus needs to be referred to all that often to give it that prominence, but maybe that’s just me.
What is the digital content that is included, and can the digital version of the included content be purchased individually?
I get an error not found when i click on that redeem-key link at the end of the article.
It's a small url copy-paste issue in the article; the correct url should be https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace/redeem-key
I really like the inclusion of redeemable product codes, even if it's only for special editions of products. It shows that D&D Beyond is really trying to work with the community who might prefer physical copies of the books. And although I don't use the mobile version, the inclusion of both the swiping and the tapping seems like a nice hybrid that should work nicely.
One thing that I'm still hoping for is the ability to filter magic items by attunement requirements, something that is sorely lacking and would be very much appreciated.
The Dragon Heist book on DDB. You can purchase it on it's own. But if you purchased the $500.00 package with minis and maps etc. etc. You also get the digital version, it's a sweetener to a "Premium" style package.
I think it’s more te DDB team advocating for community members. WotC are the license holders and I think (though I could be wrong) that they are ultimately the people who decide if codes are possible. This is similar to how the the prices for DDB were much lower than many expected and suddenly the prices on other sites dropped.
I won’t complain if I get a code with a book, but I never thought it should have been a requirement. I do think it’s a nice feature that has implications down the road for being able to buy a standard issue bundle of the hard copy and DDB version of the books.
Cool thank I cant afford to get this set but I also dont want to miss on hte digital content. So there is no additional Digital content that we cant get here directly?
Correct. This is just an additional sweetener for those who purchase the 'premium' box set.
Really happy for mobile swiping to have been brought back. And the integration with a menu button and sidebar as functions and remaining as options makes this truely what a digital character sheet should have been. I feel like I should apologise for my *****y moaning when you launched this...(but then maybe it was the moaning that got us here?).
One comment for personal preference and feedback, swipe recognition time. The fraction of a second to show what the soon to be swiped page text will be feels to detract from the swipe functionality. I used to swipe multiple and recognise the page by its differing layout. Reading the text of the page, then waiting for it to confirm and load does delay what i wanted to be a "quick-multiple-swipes" to go past 3 pages and instantly be on whatever I'd swiped to without no confirmation or loading.
Anywho, great job. Next up containers, group inventory, familiars and temporary effects (rage, mage armour etc.) please :)
Anyone else think Actions and Spells should be adjacent to each other? How often do you go into Equipment during combat?
Also, I’ll ask yet again if you can put Lucky feat on the Actions panel under Limited Use. If not, why?
Fully looking forward to all on this list, but can we PLEASE have the simple functionality of the page remembering which tab we were on when switching panels? Swiping actually makes this problem even worse. Try using Notes, Other for, you know, actually taking notes. I don’t want to go back to All every time I flick to Notes.
There isn’t any keys when you buy the physical book to input it into dnd beyond?
