Hello Everyone!
Today's update contains a few small bug fixes we have pushed out through the week, as well as a new feature that will assist with building characters by the rules as well as allowing for customization outside of the D&D rule set.
Fixes:
- Defense resistances, immunities, and vulnerabilities will no longer show as duplicates. No more seeing Fire, Fire, Cold resistances on your character sheet, as Fire will now only show up once. Hovering on the defense will show the multiple sources.
- Fixed passive perception calculation for Wildshape creatures in character sheet.
- Fixed issue with Bardic Inspiration where the use count was not always resetting on Short Rest after gaining the Font of Inspiration class feature.
We now also enforce racial, size, ability score, and proficiency requirements for feats. Prior to this update, choosing a feat was wide open, and there was no easy way of telling from the builder or sheet that a particular feat can't be selected by that character. This can be especially confusing to newer players who may not be aware of the restrictions. With this update, you'll now see that the above mentioned requirements will be enforced.
However, we are aware that there are always exceptions to the rules, and this update also introduces a solution that will allow you to override the feat restrictions we put in place. You will see new preferences on your character that will allow you to bypass any restrictions defined on the feat, so you can still have your Variant Humans with Svirfneblin Magic if you want to. You'll also noticed we added a toggle for multiclassing restrictions to be turned off as well. These were already being enforced, but now you can bypass these as well. The preferences will be on by default, including with existing characters. Any out of rule set choices already made with your characters will remain, but you'll have to toggle the preference off if you want to continue choosing anything you otherwise wouldn't be able to choose.
We'll be looking to expand the prerequisite functionality to other places in the future. Thank you and have a great day!
Love the update, thx for the hard work team!
Awesome update. Thanks DDB team!
This is great! :)
You can't imagine how often my table goes "Wait, are you sure this is +3? Beyond shows +4" or something. Having the rules/restrictions/bonuses/penalties pointed out is amazingly useful. :D
I like this update, but I'd like to see anything against the rules marked as such (maybe in red?) so you can tell at a glance what is Homebrew. Especially if something was added while custom feats, etc. were enabled but then they were later disabled.
I always wondered why Elven Accuracy showed up as an option for my human. Now I know!
Great fix for a problem I wasn't even sure existed.
One of my players is a dwarf who's wearing a Belt of Dwarvenkind. He has a duplicate of the 'advantage against poison' feature.
Nice update! Would it be possible in the future to be able to restrict player access to sources in the character builder (i.e. PHB and XGtE only)?
This is on the planned roadmap for the future.
Whoohoo! I love a good feat prerequisite in the morning!
Oh, thank goodness (and thank you and your hard work). I own all the materials and anything that can limit extraneous options for when I'm building characters for new players is appreciated.
Great stuff, much appreciated!
On duplication though; warlock Devil Sight invocation still stacks with racial Darkvision - it should not, as it is not granting the Darkvision trait, but "seeing in both magical and nonmagical darkness" that does not stack with Darkvision.
Great job!
The "Immunities" that I've added manually are now showing as "Undefined," rather than by their name/category.
The duplicate fix that was pushed out specifically addresses issues with getting defenses from multiple sources. For example, before if you were a Fire Genasi with Fire Resistance that was also holding the Staff of Fire, Fire would show up twice. Now it only shows up one time.
We currently don't have a solution for your issue, but it is one we have talked about!
I'd be happy to take a look at that if you want to PM your character sheet.
Wouldn't the easiest solution be to add Devil's Sight as a separate "sight" (alongside Tremorsense, Blindsight and Truevision)? It works differently than Darkvision, as it doesn't explicitly grant normal sight in dim light, only lets you see through darkness.
This, please. And if you do, I would greatly appreciate it if you allowed for homebrew senses too! :D
These are some great toggles!
Are there any plans on the roadmap to add the existing toggles/options to Campaigns?
Goddamn, you guys are killing it. We play every 1-2 weeks and at least several times during a session somebody will say "hey, have you always been able to do/see/set some cool thing in DnD Beyond"? and the rest of us go "I don't remember that last time, that's awesome and must be new".
I would like to see enforcement of feats prerequisites for feats. I know feat chains are not an official part of D&D but it's something I would like to use.
