Going by the Unearthed Arcana for it, I know a lot of people were upset about the feature (11th level) that let you try to cancel out a target's attempt to teleport or shapeshift by making a contested Wisdom check. I don't mind it, but I'm not a DM, so there's that. As for the Hunter's Eye feature, I hope it doesn't become a replacement for the Hunter's Mark spell. The Hunter's Eye only activates once per turn, but Hunter's Mark is a limited resource, and it doesn't hand you the Monster Manual entry for the target to metagame off of.
Of course we'll have to wait until Xanathar comes out for certainty, but to me the UA read as though Hunter's Mark and Hunter's Eye would stack - and not replace or cancel each other out.
But I really like the idea of the Ranger in the party knowing the enemy's weaknesses, etc. - it is a great utility value for the team and while the 1d6 damage doesn't scale, this is a skill that will always be valuable to the party. They say the character idea is like a van helsing - but I like playing a bounty hunter type of back story, or also just the outlander background, and you know all about tracking down people and prey and I really like how this ability feeds into the idea how you know your quarry better than anyone else.
so excited
Heaven doth with us as we with torches do, not light them for themselves.
