I'm really interested in DDB and have been considering purchasing the full digital content bundle. This is partly because I work in commercial shipping and digital formats are much more convenient to carry onto a ship! The app looks great on my android tablet but once I'm away for a regular Wi-Fi source or even an internet connection at all (which can be for some time) will any of the character creator, item lists, etc, be available or in effect will I just have digital copies of the books?
Obviously it's a significant financial outlay to think about when I already own several of the key books if the app becomes entirely redundant away from an internet source.
So there's two parts to this answer. Online, you have access to characters, lists and so on. None of this is available offline through the website. There is a mobile app that is in the Alpha stage of development. It looks quite good for Alpha, and is like an eReader for all the books and campaigns. It is Alpha, so it isn't reliable yet, but looks great and does work offline. If you do a search on the website of offline, you will see there are a lot of posts about this. One of the posts that I thought was interesting was this one with a sort of roadmap of priorities: https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/news-announcements/5647-beta-update-july-31st-spells-and-equipment-rework?page=3#c42
The mobile app is currently in alpha test, so there's only so much I can tell you, as the rest of the functionality is being worked on.
The compendiums and adventures can currently be downloaded and perused offline - this will stay the same, likely with improvements even.
Character will be added, but we'll have to wait and see how that works out - I know that the intention is that the character sheets can be viewed/used offline.
Thanks folks, it all makes a lot more sense to me now! Looking forward to seeing the end product and still toying with getting the complete digital content pack... It is payday soon...
