Hey guys, just wondering seeing if someone can help me or if someone knows the answer to this, but I submitted 2 homebrew magic items around 2 weeks ago and they are still in moderation, does it normally take a long time for the magic items to be judged? Cuz my homebrew feats I've made were done within a day. Anyone know?
Firehawk2324 Thanks for the post. Just so you're aware, the moderators are in charge of moderating homebrew, and with there being only a handful of mods vs over 400+ submissions, it tends to be a slow process. Because of this, we tend to break up categories between us, so one mod might have feats, and another might have races. ArwensDaughter is also correct in that this is not our day job, we are all volunteers, and many of us work during the day. We go through submissions in order of submission, so please, be patient, and we will get to yours in time.
Um one of my items was approved, which it's a sentient weapon named Fel-Na-Morn, the other 2 have not only because I had to alter them to add modifers, but yes it took about 3 weeks. For the one item.
We're going to need to chalk that up to 1,500 submissions...
Two things:
1) This is quite obviously not a scalable architecture for managing homebrew submissions. In another thread there was a suggestion about reversing the order of publishing permission to a 'Report' model whereby all submissions are automatically published and moderators deal with reported transgressions. Either that, or you're going to have to triple the amount of moderators and keep that metric as the site continues to expand.
2) Memes aren't allowed; please ban yourself.

If the current reject numbers were lower (say 5% or less), then it's something we would look at - however depending on type of homebrew, we have some rejection rates closer to 70%. Turning it on to auto approve and then us going back and taking a published homebrew away from people is not something we would want to be doing regularly, so at the moment, it will need to remain the current process.
The biggest thing I would ask for all submittors is to sit down and check if what they are submitting actually needs to be shown to everyone. We reject a lot of things that are simply basic items or features, etc that allow a single character to have something on their sheet that they picked up in a campaign. I've requested additional check points at submission stage to remind folks and have them agree to terms (like is this your own creation, and not something you've found on the internet, etc.) to try and reduce the overall queue, however the team are working on that character sheet revamp y'all keep wanting (apparently :P )
Well I wouldn’t take it personally Sorce. We’re all just really excited to share our creations. I have 2 races and a subclass in moderation myself. It just takes time, one thing I was suggesting is that if someone wants to update an existing published item, that they could do so without approval up to 50 characters max. After that further changes would need approval. I feel like this would help with the update process, sometimes its just a typo that needs fixed.
Quick question to anyone who knows the answer: if you cancel a publish to do a quick edit, does that take it out of the queue and put it back in at the end when you republish? 'cause... I have a terrible habit of only noticing errors after I've published something :(

It puts you at the back of the line again. If you've already been waiting a while it is better to wait for it to be published and immediately make the edits you need to make and resubmit.

If I publish a homebrew monster, is it still available to me privately while it is awaiting moderation? I have some (SRD) dinosaur skeleton homebrews that I thought others might find useful, but I need access to them currently in the campaign I run, so I've been hesitant to publish them.
Anything you make is available to you even during the publishing process as far as I've seen, it's just chillin in your creations. If I'm wrong someone tell me but everything I've done is available to me while it's being published.
Correct, you don't have to publish your homebrew to use it yourself!
Yep, that I know, as I have several private homebrew items. I had the impression from comments here that maybe stuff became unavailable even in private usage during moderation. Glad to know I was wrong.

That..... is a lot......
Good luck!
Wow ok well that makes more sense, hey I'll sign up to be a mod lmao just pass my stuff right on thru lmao
Well. That explains why the four Monk subclasses I submitted are still in moderation. Any way to guesstimate time frame?
Hey shadow, did your stuff end up getting approved?
