I was planning on running a celestial warlock with pact of the chain, and the warlock page says that I can get any of the 4 special familiars: pseudodragon, imp, sprite, and quasit. I was informed that according to the PHB, these were patron locked and I couldn't choose any of these, and it doesn't say it on the warlock page. Was it just left off the page by accident or do we take the page over the PHB?
whoever informed you was mistaken in some manner, or using house rules.
I just checked the 6th print (latest version) of the physical Player's Handbook and the text exactly matches what is stated on the D&D Beyond Warlock page:
Is it possible to have a different version on dnd beyond, as at the bottom of the class my PHB on here says
YOUR PACT BOON
Each Pact Boon option produces a special creature or an object that reflects your patron’s nature.
Pact of the Chain. Your familiar is more cunning than a typical familiar. Its default form can be a reflection of your patron, with sprites and pseudodragons tied to the Archfey and imps and quasits tied to the Fiend. Because the Great Old One’s nature is inscrutable, any familiar form is suitable for it.

The wording is different but the meaning is the same, the last part of the sentence is "any familiar form is suitable for it." They have just clarified the statement a little more in the latest printing likely due to this very confusion.

I thought the "any form is suitable" simply applied to the great old one patron

going back and looking at it I can see that being the case, but I also believe that may be why the latest printing has changed. DNDBeyond will always use the latest if I'm not mistaken, so it will have all the errata as well.

Correct - whenever Wizards of the Coast release errata, we update D&D Beyond to match the updated content/rules.

So I'll take it that the text there is just flavor, thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

Hi there SpencerWil,
whoever informed you was mistaken in some manner, or using house rules.

Or is that passage just role-playing flavor text
