Ultimately, I think D&D Beyond would grow most significantly if it were able to be used and integrated cross-platform with other online platforms (Roll20, Fantasy Grounds, etc).
Are there any plans for live battlemap options coming up, or any plans for collaboration in the near future?
Hey folks, thank you to everyone who tuned in to the D&D Beyond Developer update for February. Missed watching it live? You can now watch the video here:
EDIT: The video is now undergoing minor editing and will be available shortly.
Hey mods, any idea what's going on with this video? It's no longer available as a Twitch VOD, and the YouTube upload was also taken down or made private for some reason.

Quick comment on what was said about more people using character sheets on a desktop than mobile. I think that statistic is heavily skewed. People may access it to modify, change and create but they're not sitting with desktops at the table and if they are it's DM's, not players.

All but one of my players have laptops at the table, and the only reason he doesn't, is because he doesn't own a laptop.
I can only speak of my two groups. One group has been playing for around 30 years, together most of us for 20 or so. The other group I introduced to D&D relatively recently. My grognard group has 6 members, and 5 of us have chromebooks/surface pros at the table. My newer group, made up of my nephews and nieces and daughter, has 5 members. I DM from my chromebook, and 3 out of the 4 of them use their phones/iPads. Both groups are enjoying DDB although the kids were much more willing to try it. I chalk that up to not already having a routine for the two major things that DDB does - info lookup and character building. If you've played 5e since it came out, you pretty much know where most the rules that come up are located in the PHB or you've houseruled it some such. The kids don't have those habits. It leads me to believe that if DDB had been out first, my older guys would have probably not been so hard to pull away from the Excel character sheet they were using.
I was really disappointed by the very limited response regarding Campaign Management. I paid a lot of money for not much at all.
Could you maybe elaborate? You paid a lot of money expecting what? Also, pre-emptive question, you spent a lot of money before checking what the site could or could not do or when it could be expected to do what you would have wanted it to?
Just trying to understand your point of view here.

My point is more that I don't see how the data gathered can point to those users using it in a game vs using it out of a game making the data somewhat skewed.

I'd suspect it is a matter of time spent on the same page, without getting out of it, and the assumption that if someone spends 2/3 consecutive hours on a character page, they are most probably playing a session. But I am only speculating here, I obviously do not have any hard evidence of this.

They must have confidence in the data to be able to share the result as they did and take action on it. The thing is. I have three character sheets open right now and have done for probably the best part of a day while I've been worldbuilding. On my own, out of game. I just think there must be a lot of assumptions made while interpreting the data.

We do not (and hardly will) know what the data they have actually tracks. Other than just time it could also track clicks (expansion of features/spells/equipment, increase/decrease of HP etc) to help asses if the use is for a gaming session or building. I am not trying to come up with "excuses" for them, but I want to believe (and I have no reason to believe otherwise, tbh) they have more than just speculation to base their data on.
Edit: technically, I think that chrome on non-android tablets might count as desktop use, but I am not sure (not a developer or programmer, so I might be heavily wrong on this, spoon of salt is suggested)

The data reported back from the web client reports the browser type, version (e.g. Chrome 63.0.3239.132) and the operating system as well as some other interesting stats.
I don't want to derail this thread, but the reason for that is pretty much all mobile devices declare their resolution as 640x360, regardless of what the device resolution actually is, so web content appears the same whether you have an iPhone 1 or an iPhone 6.
I always seem to miss these live. Is the date for the next one known yet?
I'll need to double check with the boss, but should be Friday 16th of March - which is just before D&D Beyond's one year anniversary - need to make the theme a birthday party!

We only have our own experiences and social groups to draw upon, whereas Curse have a LOT of really good usage data.

Thanks, SK that's interesting. Screen resolution is really interesting actually, never would have guessed at 640x360 hitting the top spot.
