For weight calculations can we stow things into things like Bag of Holding or Handy Haversack? Or be able to temporarily be able to create negative weight items?
Thanks,

Badeye mentioned in the dev update that containers will be coming after the character sheet revamp. The inventory system will be receiving its own rework.
Not sure the use case you're thinking about, but a bahlg of holding and similar items have a constant weight regardless of what's held inside them.
This is as a work around. A bag of holding can hold 500lbs (and weighs a constant amount 15lbs if memory serves). So if right now there are no containers. Just allow us to create a "placeholder" magic item that is allowed to have negative weight, it would represent the weight inside the bag and thus removed from the total weight calculation. Right now, we have to turn encumbrance off on the character sheets so our movement numbers don't get screwed with. By being able to create an item with negative weight at least it's "mostly" working.

yes I just watched the update. I'm hoping they can offer a workaround in the meantime. Allowing negative weights on created magic items would be simple and fairly effective (if not 100% accurate).

Unless I'm in a gritty setting (Dark Sun) we don't really worry about encumbrance too much unless the players start taking extensive liberties (let's carry 7 suits of plate mail EACH!). It's a lot of book-keeping for very little return, as I say unless you're playing a game where it really matters (Dark Sun where you need to carry food and water in order to SURVIVE)
Similarly a Bag of Holding or HHH just makes inventory management easier and less of a headache.

I 100% agree. Before DnDBeyond.com came along our group did not waste time on Encumbrance. However, when it did come along it made it so much easier to include encumbrance w/o all the math hassle and so we started using it until we came across the Bag of Holding issue. So now we've turned it off again. But what's hilarious is in one group we killed a boss, got tons of loot, but realized we needed to haul it "very carefully" back to town before we could do other stuff. Created for a fun paranoid trip back that would never have happened w/o Encumbrance.
