Often I'll think, "What does that spell do again?" or something similar, and I'll have to find the relevant link in the gazillion DDB links I have (no, seriously, I have about ~200 bookmarks in several folders with nested folders in them just for DDB), to go to the right search page and then I have to search for the thing I want.
Imagine if all you had to do was click on a browser extension/add-on and search from there and it took you to the right page?

I'm not sure I understand why that would be needed as we already have a DDB search function?
Using your example of "What does that spell do again," if I suddenly need to know all the different things someone can Wish for, a search just for that word "wish" gives me the spell as the first option. If, for whatever reason, it hadn't been right at the top and I didn't want to have to search the list, I could just hit the Spells graphic to narrow the results down to just the spells called or containing the word "wish."
I'm assuming I'm missing something about what you mean.
Many browsers let you shortcut to search functions from other websites.
I have DDB set up like this in chrome, so when I type 'ddb' in the address bar and hit space, anything I type after that is run as a search on DDB.
In Chrome settings, right below where you select your default search engine, there's a link to "manage search engines" where you can enter a keyword and a search string, simply entering the URL of the search results page generated by whatever site you want to use with '%s' in place of the search query. For DDB it's this: https://www.dndbeyond.com/search?q=%s

I can't get that to work for me which is why people like me need extensions.

As one of the people who make chrome extension, I am curious why you can't use the search feature in DDB, it is actually pretty good.
I do wish it would have a better fuzzy match, but that is because I can't spell and often can't find a spell because I am misspelling it.
However, it would be kinda interesting to see if I could add a spell searcher to my extension that would pull up the spells and let you see those descriptions in my toolbox.
Once again it would be kinda pointless unless you are trying to avoid page refreshes... I don't know... might look into it.
Edit, I am assuming your talking from a DMs point since a character would have the spell info on their sheet.

Too many clicks and too many windows. When DM'ing, I have roughly 20 tabs open across four separate browser windows. To have a single search box from an extension, whether I'm on the DDB website or not, that would be fantastic for me.

I get the idea, I even understand what you're asking.
I am going to take a look at it tomorrow, however, if I do add it, it would be apart of my already designed extension. I wouldn't make a second extension. lol
Because form a DM's view I can see the value of being able to look up spells quickly without opening new tabs.
The only part of my extension that gets added to the dom is a div at the bottom of the page and the async dice roller that highlights dice rolls, which you can turn off in the options. Everything else is contained within the first div I mentioned.
How does my extension mess up the site? I would love to know so I can fix it.

I'm quite curious as to why you can't get this to work for you.
I mean that works, I will admit it does have the downside of meaning you have to load two pages to get the spells details when it would be really nice to be able to just quickly see spell stats without reloading or leaving the page or even opening a new tab.
At least from a DM's view.

A browser extension for searching DDB.

That's actually really nifty, I'll have to look into that!

Don't do it for me, then, as I don't use your extension since it messes things up too much on the rest of the site.
I'll let Google Scholar and a bunch of other extensions like it know that you think it's silly.
