About a half hour ago I purchased Volo's Guide and a couple other books. Now when I go to the Character Builder, the standard approach shows me all sources I've purchased (enabling me, for example, to build a Tabaxi). But when I try to build a random character, I do not have access to recent sources (so I cannot, eg, build a Tabaxi with the random builder).
Perhaps with time the issue will sort itself out, but it seems like something the devs should be aware of.
Unfortunately it seems like Random doesn't allow anything but PHB/Basic Rules source, and homebrew.
There's an odd little work-around for this. When you go to make a character, go into the regular builder first, and then go back in your browser and go to random. Other than Blood Hunter not working, everything else should suddenly be present! At least, it was when I last tried this trick. :)
The devs are aware of this; The randomizer was thrown in there as a bit of fun. It hasn't been tied to all the paid content or anything.
I have heard that they'd like to remake it, possibly even adding in a few basic logic rules (so characters make sense). Not the highest of priority though with the other projects they currently have going.
FWIW I love using the randomizer to come up with NPCs to stock things like colosseum or hunting guilds, they give me a quick starting direction before I start making a monster statblock for them.
That sounds like fun actually! Random character campaign. I bet some fun RP came from that!
I just tried the randomize to create some standard type soldier/guard types. Didn't work out so well with stats. lol. They would definitely not be hired as guards.

Thanks for the response; I'll try the workaround. Is this something they're planning on fixing?

Very cool to hear it's a future idea, though!

Using the randomizer for quick & easy NPCs is exactly what I was thinking.
Thanks both for the feedback.
A few of the mods opted to run through a one-shot with only randomized characters once upon a time. I believe I rolled a Barbarian with 0 Strength.
😐

That's what happens when you wear a helmet your whole life!

Thanks for this trick. It worked like a charm :)
