Last night, in my Out of the Abyss session, a character contracted a disease in the module called "grackle-lung". I wanted to reference the exact rule, so I took my iPad off its keyboard and turned it sideways, so it would be in portrait mode where the global search actually exists, and typed "grackle-lung".
I don't know why the search in landscape mode on iPad isn't more of a priority. Drives me nuts while playing that it doesn't exist.

Because we have a giant list of things that we are working on and we have to weight priority based on the information we have in front of us.
Seeing the feedback here certainly helps us make prioritization decisions, so thanks for providing it. I'll see how we can get this updated.
Thanks!
I appreciate that...just know that I only felt it was overlooked because it was reported a few weeks ago:
I think it would be useful to split the "Compendium" filter of the global search into separate "Rules" and "Adventures" filters - for instance, if I search "spellbook", I do want to see a list of rules that concern themselves with spellbooks, but I do not want to see published adventure material that happens to have a spellbook in a room as loot.
Right now, filtering on "Compendium" gives me both.
I wish they would add account-specific, (and on that note- platform specific) search options. For example, if I'm searching for Spells- I don't want to see it in the compendium (especially not on mobile- where it loads the page, THEN jumps to the spell which can take longer than it should) I would want just the spell slot. But just because I want it this way wouldn't mean someone else wants it that way.
Furthermore, to beat a dead horse more: buying PHB should auto filter any SRD content out, and you shouldn't be able to search for content you do not have access to.

I absolutely agree that SRD content should be filtered out once the PHB is bought but it seems like a big task for them to do for a little bit of convenience, so hopefully they will get to it but as Badeye said they have a long list of stuff to do so hopefully if we keep bringing it up then it will be higher on the priority list.
However i do have to disagree with the not being able to search for something that i don't have access too i feel like if you don't show stuff you don't have access to and you search for something and it doesn't show it you might assume it doesn't exist at all, where as if it is there you at least know it exists and how you are able to access it. What is do think there should be is an option to filter only by owned content and/or an icon on search terms that indicates that you do not own it so you don't have to go opening up something you think you might have access to.

Certainly fair- but that's why I think there should be account specific search preferences.
TL;DR: On tablet/mobile design after clicking on magnifying glass focus should be already on search input.
More info: To search on tablet/mobile I must click on magnifying glass and then again click on search input to type something. It would be great to have already focus on search input right after clicking on magnifying glass.
Just wanted to let everyone know that we pushed out a small update tonight that combines more typical auto-complete terms along with the current term suggestions when searching. Hopefully, this will provide a little bit better usability on the search suggestions.

Is there a way to filter search results based on specific publications, instead of large categories like "Compendium"? i.e. if I want to search the Player's Handbook without having to sift through results from all the Compendium related content I own?

Not yet, but it's been requested repeatedly.

This is an example of why I thing the Global Search is NOT efficient or smart.
When I search "Wizard" the FIRST and TOP result should be PHB, Wizard. However, the first results and top is Wizard from SWORD COAST ADVENTURER'S GUIDE. This should NOT be. The global search is NOT working in my opinion. The hierarchy of results should show CORE rules first ALWAYS (PHB, DMG and then Monsters). I wish I could limit my search. When I use Beyond at the table, people with books get to the data faster than me. I have to sift thought useless hits.

I agree with your "wizard" assessment. We've improved global search a great deal since it first entered testing, and we will continue to do so.
While your frustration is obvious and I'm sorry you are dealing with that, it is actually quite helpful that you shared this specific issue since it will help us continue to turn knobs on search to make it better.
But instead it doesn't appear at all in the search results! Not even when I filter the search results to be only from Compendium! Luckily I knew it was in DMG under Sentient Items and found it that way, but it feels like text anchors should be REALLY high up in the search results.
Thought I'd share a more specific example of an issue with the global search.
One of the players in my campaign is trying to become a Lich, so I thought I'd check out if the MM has any rules on how to become one. Using global search does not return the entry in the MM compendium entry for Lich.
I had to go into Compendium -> Rules -> Monster Manual to get to the entry that I wanted.

Thanks BadEye!
Maybe put ".site-search { display: block; }" in your CSS? :)

I am the Inquisitor Imperitus. I am judge, jury, and executioner. Draw your last breath now, as I send you to the Nine Hells.
When I use the global search to find "Magic Weapons" and then select the Monster filter, I see a lot of monsters that have the an entry like this:
Magic Weapons. The golem's weapon attacks are magical.
But i noticed that Tiamat is missing for example. May be there are more missing.

Oh this thread is alive!
Let me share another specific example: "conflict". I was expecting to get this result at the top: https://www.dndbeyond.com/compendium/rules/dmg/treasure#Conflict
