I think D&D Beyond is planning on creating a Roll20 type virtual table top for us to play on. The D&D Beyond will be the go to place to play any D&D games. It only takes me about 30 minutes to get a character transferred over from D&D Beyond to Roll20. I'm good with that.
They've said that they have no plans to build their on VTT.

Bad Eye (Adam) has stated repeatedly in the dev videos and elsewhere that there is, at this time, no plans to add a VTT to DDB. They are still discussing 3rd party VTT integration.

You don't OWN your books on DDB: WotC can change them any time. What do you think will happen when OneD&D comes out?
I would love to see integration with Roll20s character vault so we could export/import. Would really help players who don't have much experience so they can have the guided character builder.
I'm preparing to run a Tomb of Annihilation campaign for some friends on Roll20. I really enjoy the character builder in dndbeyond and how it is aware of the unlocked content I've purchased. I've created a campaign on dndbeyond so that my players have access to the character builder and my rule books.
Just adding my voice to the chorus:
I would love to see the ability to export character sheets into Roll20.
I am very excited and nervous about this at the same time. I'm heavily invested in Roll20, I've bought loads of D&D modules, tons of maps, tokens, rule expansions etc I have invested tons of time learning how to use roll 20 and build up my stock of tools, art, homebrew etc. so I really hope DnD Beyond lets roll20 add the PHB because I cannot afford to move to another platform. I'd rather stick with roll 20 or rage quit D&D altogether! :D
It's been a really long wait for news, can't someone tell us when Roll 20 will have access to the PHB and DM's guide? The SRD isn't good enough. People avoid playing spell casters in our games due to the clunky way they have to create spells from scratch and ROll20 say they cannot add PHB because of dev work and NDA's so what is going on? Can we blame Brexit? :D same issues I cannot invest until I know what is going on!
Having an integration would be great but Will it be this year? Summer? Spring?. I do really like how DnD beyond is progressing as a tool for players/DM's, i like the layout and potential it offers. After trying out the character builder I found it really speeds things up but its missing so much content which leaves it unusable unless you pay a fortune for all the rules. I've already bought the books and i have bought many of them again on roll 20 so that's twice. DON'T make me buy it again on here, that's just ripping us off - paying for D&D books 3 times will really anger the community. I've made my contribution to WoTC by buying the books so I expect access to it after the first purchase and not to be rinsed for cash again and again. Any news?
DnD Beyond has no say on whether or not Roll20 gets the PHB. That's between Roll20 and WOTC ( Wizards of the Coast).
DnD beyond has not offered a timeline on possible integration. But when it happens, I'm reasonably certain that you will have to purchase content here to use non SRD content in the builder, or take the time to homebrew what you need. Only you can decide if the value of this service is worth it for you.
Roll 20 is a Virtual Table Top (VTT); you can play the game online, with a built in map, tokens (like minis or pawns), dice roller, etc. It supports a variety of role playing games, not just DnD. Only some of Wizard's of the Coast's official DnD content is available for purchase there. I don't use Roll 20, so I can't tell you a lot about its features.
DDB is designed primarily for players who are playing face to face, around a table. (although those involved in online or play by post games may find it helpful, too). It includes a character builder, a way to do complex searches of spells and monsters, and what is called a "compendium," essentially the content of the various rule and adventure books in a digital form. All the 5e books that Wizards of the Coast has published have been incorporated into DnD Beyond, their content is available for purchase as whole "books" or in smaller pieces (all spells, a particular subclass, etc.) the DDB staff have been very clear that they have no intention of developing a VTT, but they may eventually create a way to export characters from DDB to Roll20 or Fantasy Grounds.
You guys have no idea how helpful your content has been for me; if not for you guys, I've not be playing very efficiently at all. Can't wait for the mobile app, though; right now, the majority of my group has to use pen and paper; my DM doesn't want a ton of laptops on the table. LOL
I Dm using Roll 20 but we play face to face and although I ask my players to keep their character sheets up to date on Roll 20 (for my benefit and they can never forget their character sheets now) they can update it outside of game time and they all choose to use paper and pen during the game. I don't use all the complex formulas and dice rollers in roll20, we all roll real dice. I find D20 really useful for searching for rules or monsters quickly (most of what you need is in the SRD but new stuff needs a search on the net or book skimming). The VTT maps are awesome and quick to build and use, There are TONS of maps and tokens available to buy or create your own for free and upload it, there are separate map layers for DM to hide notes, place terrain, tokens (monsters, furniture etc) even Fog of war to hide the map and reveal it as the party moves through the terrain.
All items can be created and stored online plus one player brings a tablet or laptop to record the party Journal on a handout per session - they can then all read it whenever they want and all have access to update it with more notes and pics. It becomes a really useful storage area for items, places of note, Maps, Journal entries, quests, NPC's, whatever you want really. The way we use Roll 20 is the best of both worlds, VTT gaming with old school face to face get togethers and dice rolling, Pen/Paper and cloud storage to manage the ton of information we acquire. Using a VTT like roll20 takes some getting used to but it is pretty easy to learn and its not as scary as Fantasy grounds looks to some beginners. FG does look great though and I'm sure it works really well too.
Currently I'm working in my free time to create an NPC/Monster importer for generating NPC entries for DnDBeyond statblocks in Fantasy Grounds. However due to no-statblock uniformity, I've kinda halted this development. The statblock tends to morph pending on what content you own. I'd rather have it have 'Description' or 'Lair actions' headers with no content in them so at least my importer can detect them.

You can access the site on a tablet or phone. Ive not used it on my phone much, but it works great on myiPad at the table. (This presumes you have wifi)
have to ask then why my friend didn't like it. I've honestly never tried it on a phone; phones are for apps, in my mind, so I mostly forget that you can access plain old sites on them as well ...
I find dndbeyond.com to work amazingly well on phones and tablets -- that's how I use it at the table.
My words exactly. I've used R20 and FG. There is already so much more functionality here, I've completely stopped using the others. I mean, interactive maps are nice... but you really don't need them.
I would think we will hear more about this AFTER the character sheet update, most of the core mechanics they want to add, and most importantly, the PDF export because then they will have each section mapped out better for an export. Once everything is tagged and what not, it will be easier to export... Also, I would assume with the various character sheets available at Roll20, it won't be optimized for them... Probably just the OGL, so those using Shaped will still have some work to do but will still help ALOT! What might be easier is hoping our fantastic sheet makers at Roll20 create their own importer. That might be easier for them to capture info from that side... Not a programmer so IDK.

Ditto on this. I own everything in Fantasy Grounds and hardcover. The prospect of buying a "third copy" is so unappealing I haven't even used this.
You're absolutely right, Balar. I'd like to very same functionality.
I just want to tell everyone "happy gaming" and actually mean it. Whatever your game is, just have fun with it, it is after all, just a game.

What is the difference between Roll20 and here?

The best you can get are importers.
