Is there a way to add or select your starting equipment or does that have to be done manually? It'd be nice for newer players to just have a list to pick from like proficiencies.
Still waiting for backgrounds to allow the choice between either tools or languages, like the core rules allow.
You can already simulate this by choosing a background that has the configuration of those choices that you want and then customizing from there.
We have a full Backgrounds revamp already in progress that will not be ready for a couple of weeks. We opened up the choices (instead of forcing them) weeks ago to provide a workaround until the revamp is completed.

This is also planned for the near future. For some of the systems, we had to establish a starting point that is at minimum as convenient as pen and paper and improve from there.
This is not a challenge for us to do - it simply takes some time and has been lower on the priority list than say, the spells and equipment management rework.
I also want to be able to take damage, receive healing, add conditions easily to my character, also take actions like if i cast a spell on a team member in game i can instantly select party members to get the buffs or healing, also the DM can do all these things from the encounter.

While I'm looking forward seeing what the revamp looks like and don't anticipate any changes before then, I will point out that because the feature is fixed I cannot just choose a background with the configuration I want if I am after a specific feature with a specific combination of tool and language proficiencies.
I tried out the new custom attack feature today, but I don't think it's working right. I set Wisdom as the stat (to simulate the affect of shillelagh) and checked the proficient box, but when the attack displays, there are no modifiers (to either attack or damage) shown. Manually setting the to hit and damage work, but I think it ought to auto calculate bonuses if a stat is set, same with proficiency bonus.

This is true and will be completely alleviated with the revamp. This is (literally) the highest priority we have post-launch and won't take long to release.

You're right - that's definitely not working as intended. We're on it - thanks!
There seems to be a lot of work needed on the character builder. I'm eager for a working character builder with all background options, archetypes and other features. Will it be read for launch? A really awesome and complete character builder would help sell me on a subscription and intro package but without it it's hard to know what a complete product will look like in the end.

Right now the character builder only includes the contents from the free rules.
After launch, if you buy the digital version of any books that include subclasses (archetypes etc) and backgrounds not included in the free rules, those will show up in the builder for you, with or without a subscription.

Absolutely correct - I wish I was allowed to show you guys how awesome the character builder looks, with all of the content, from all of the books available!
Not at at launch, but soon after. Our priorities for this week (starting Wednesday) are the Backgrounds revamp, familiars/companions/wild shape, and then some of the layout changes we have mentioned for the builder and sheet. Those won't all be done this week, but that will be the order we tackle them.
right on thx

I want a list on my character sheet of campaigns I have been in, and an ability to join a campaign right from the character sheet.

Don't worry, it's almost the 15th!
Will we get Familiar functionality at launch?
Awesome! Appreciate the timeline :)
