I saw someone mention the backgrounds not being there I went to make a charc (stout halfing) and when i got to backgrounds there was only a few backgrounds the hermit background wasn't there and probably quite a few others. Otherwise so far i am loving this its seems cool but looks like you guys have alot of work ahead of you. Thank you though for the work you have done and thank you for making D&D beyond I am looking forward to when all the bugs and kinks are more or less fixed :-) Have a good day
At first I was confused about all the missing content and then I realized you have to re-buy ALL the books with whatever character creation relevant options are in them, so for backgrounds SCAG, PHB, maybe DMG and maybe Volos, for races you need Volos, SCAG, and PHB, for classes/subclasses/domains you need PHB, Volos, SCAG, DMG, etc

Standard response:
D&D Beyond can be used for free and contains information from the following "free to use" sources published by Wizards of the Coast: D&D 5th edition SRD, D&D 5th edition Basic Rules and Elemental Evil Companion. Content from other sources (PHB, DMG, etc.) will need to be purchased from the Marketplace or accessed via a Master Tier Subscription.
Moderators: 3 grammar errors I had to fix; no space in between Marketplace and or, a space in between SRD and the comma immediately after, and no spaces in between the second sentence and the period at the end of the first sentence.

You can also purchase individual content instead of whole books. Just go to the book you are looking for in the Marketplace and scroll down. You will see prices for individual items like feats and backgrounds, if you just want specific items.
i just exported from my iphone and the sheet was blank.
There's an incompatibility between the standard PDF character sheet and iOS PDF reader.
Install adobe reader on iPhone and it will show txt. safari indeed wont
I tried that and I just get an error. It says it can't read it.
I had the same problem on my samsung android phone. The drive pdf viewer (I think this was the stock viewer) and adobe acrobat reader didn't work. Only Google PDF Viewer will work and only when I select the pdf file from the downloads app in my app drawer. The download app is the only way I can select to use the Google PDF Viewer to open the pdf file. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but it appears the character PDF file doesn't like some of the most popular readers. Adobe Acrobat was the only PDF reader on my Macbook Pro that would display correctly and allow me to edit the fields or copy and paste. I hope this helps, but I am not sure if Google PDF Reader is available for the Iphone. I will edit this post once I update my Ipad so I can install adobe acrobat and try it on there.
[EDIT] The character sheet works normally on my Ipad with adobe acrobat and I can edit all fields. Although the appearance field does not seem to offer a window to browse an image file like it does on my Macbook Pro.
I've thought this for ages, will there ever be the opportunity when making magical items that have 'once per day' effects to mark that it's been used for the day even if the effects aren't spells? for example the cape of the mountebank has a 'used' button but the pearl of power doesn't.
When I print out my character sheets, it uses my D&D Beyond user name as the Player Name. Could you make that my actual name, or better yet, make it an editable field so I can print out character sheets for my players.
Also, it would be nice to have the portaits printed out in the Character Appearance box on page 2.

Thanks.
If I use Adobe Acrobat on my Macbook pro I can edit all of the name fields. I just wish the spell sheet had a name field and not just the class. If you click the appearance field it will open a window so you can browse to an image file. I hope this helps.
Loving the site! I'm relatively new to D&D in general, and this place already helps with tons of questions.
I realize this is a huge thread and so these concerns may have already come up and may even have answers, but I thought I'd share some of my thoughts to help D&D Beyond continue to improve.
In the Attacks section, there's no mention of range and no way to mouseover weapons or key terms to learn more about them. For instance, figuring out what "finesse" or "versatile" means. As such, with a spear, there's no easy way in the character sheet to understand the difference between the 1d6 damage and the (1d8) damage from versatility. Also, it would be cool to be able to highlight over the modifiers to understand where they come from. Like, why is it 1d6+2? I can figure it out from some sleuthing, but highlighting over that "+2" would be cool to see why.
Why not add a green dot next things in the Equipment section so I know I'm proficient with that item? I say this realizing there's a proficiencies dropdown under Features, but cross-referencing information from multiple places is the whole reason to have a digital version of all this, right?
Speaking of equipment, when adding something like an Explorer's Kit, I'd prefer it add all the items individually, rather than as one bulk item. That way I can keep track of which items I've used and how many I have left.
I have a level 1 monk, and I'm unable to add armor. I realize I get benefits for not wearing armor, but I was just checking out how things worked and realized armor doesn't even appear when searching for it. Can monk's not wear armor at all? While that's more of a rule question, maybe showing those items grayed or struck out with a reason why would be helpful.
In the character builder there is a window of information about starting equipment, but it's just a list that can't be selected. Why not make it so I can click on those things and say "yes, I'd like this suggested starting equipment!"
Also in the character builder, when it comes to personality traits, bonds, ideals, flaws... again it lists the suggestions and how to roll for them, but when it's time to actually enter them there's no way to select from those lists. Maybe a dropdown with those and an option to customize your own?
Small one here: I don't recall seeing any info about rolling for height and weight in the character builder.
Anyway, those are some of my thoughts on day one. Thanks for making this! It's going to make our new campaign soooooo much simpler in terms of finding information and understanding.

You can select the "Proficient" checkbox when adding new items. This will filter out all the items you're not proficient with.

What I'm talking about is things that I've already added to my inventory. My background is a Hermit, I'm carrying an Herbalism Kit, but I only know I'm proficient with it either if I just remember or if I remember to check the Proficiencies dropdown. A little green dot next to it in my equipment inventory would just be one more place to help me remember that information.
So far so good, but I imported my level 1 wood elf monk (manually) and was not able to add his background (Hermit). This background is in the PHB and is in fact the recommended background for the monk class. I only saw Acolyte, Criminal/Spy, Folk Hero, Noble, Sage, and Soldier. None of those fit my character. Sage is close but is more wizardry than I need. Folk Hero isn't modest enough, and Criminal/Spy isn't right, either. I could shoehorn noble in (his brother, my previous character, completed Storm King's Thunder, so he has some renown with his people, but wood elves are pretty humble, and monks even more so.
I didn't see a way to add monk spells. Surprised me that monks get spells, but we do.
I love the idea of D&D Beyond, and I will most likely be a paid subscriber if my DMing takes off (right now it's stalled on the ground, I'm simply a player in two separate weekly games). As a player, I'm not sure I need to subscribe, but will certainly weigh my options as my needs change. For what we do, it's mainly theatre of the mind, so even a printed character sheet seems overkill in my main game. Mainly just keeping track of hit points and to-hit/damage bonuses, things like that. Whereas this new game I'm in, it's Adventurer's League, so it's more structured.

I purchased the Anual Master Teir subscription, the 3 Core books and Curse of Strahd.
I added my wife to a campaign and started creating her character for her(she likes playing. Hates the fidly bits like creating characters). She is a lvl5 Halfling/Druid, with Circle of the moon and the Haunted one background
So here is the problem. She doesn’t seem to have access to any of this content. I tried giving her the Haunted One background(from Strahd) and it is not available for her to choose. And I tried giving her the Circle of the Moon Druid Circle. Not there. The. Just to try it, I tried giving her the ‘Blood Spear’(from Strahd). Again. Not there.
All these options are there if I create a character from scratch. But not for my players.
So any thoughts? Is the sharing feature not turned on yet? I can’t see anything I should have to do other that have them join the campaign.
We were hoping to use this on Saturday for our game. Hope it gets working soon.
Hi there - you need to manually flag the campaign as being one of your three "sharing campaigns" - you should see an option on that campaign to do this. It will then enable sharing of your content
The exported character sheet is really not very good. None of the abilities are detailed or even summarized or have page numbers. I don't really see it being very useful without adding to it yourself, which isn't exactly what you want out of a character builder. Are there any plans to overhaul the exported sheet to be more useful? To be honest that was the main thing I was going to use it for, but I might as well just use a form fillable PDF at that point.
This is the first iteration of the PDF export - expect to see further improvements and options in the future.
So if my Paladin is proficient in martial weapons would I be allowed to have them start with a magic longsword ? Or are there rules on that because under starting equipment it just says "martial weapon" ?
The equipment manager allows you to add all sorts of equipment to your character, so IF YOUR DM ALLOWS IT, of course you could start with a magical longsword!
That worked.! I thought I’d done that. But I guess it didn’t stick the first time.
I am starting the Curse of Strahd campaign as a player and am interested in using D&D Beyond for character sheet management. However my chosen background is the Haunted option from the Character Options. None of the purchase options that I have found so far allow me to purchase just the character options for the campaign and my DM is opting to just use the physical book for our play sessions. Could purchase options be expanded to include separate character options as well as separate monsters, spells, and items?
Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but there should be a collapse feature for the Notes section. An even better feature would be to be able to create multiple tabs under each heading so you can keep multiple factions/allies etc. information separated.

Everything is working very well for me so far.
Is this the right forum for suggestions?
