I've seen a lot of comments on some of the bugs or issues we've all kind of run into. One thing I was hoping to see, however, was a "walk-through wizard" of the official D&D character sheet.
In this mode you'd see the actual character sheet, in its entirety, and the wizard would walk through and highlight each section as you work on it. The latest change you make (and all cascading changes based on it) would also be highlighted (maybe a different color?). This would allow people to see the sheet being populated and altered in real time. Benefits of a mode like this off the top of my head would be:
People learning the system for the first time and seeing how things alter each other as they learn the character building rules.
Having a general idea of the format of the character sheet and learning where each section is and what it is for.
Being very familiar with the character sheet so if they come across a paper-version or need to build one, they are already extremely familiar with it and the process.
All of the information you provide about your character is readily in front of you at all times so no matter where you are in the process you can reference other choices.
I'm sure there might be more benefits, and I'm sure there might be a lot of things to work through to make it work (for example: how to present all of the choices to the user in the same interface?). I think this will cater well to people who are intimately familiar with the rules and the process, and also provide a more advanced version of the character builder for folks who are slowly getting up to speed.
I am probably just adding more to the mountain but...
Here are my points of feedback
I very much enjoy that it is all visual. You have pictures and pop up descriptions
Half Elf and Human Variant race choices allow you to choose +1 in ability scores, but this is not reflected when you are actually putting points into your ability scores. This should be automatic. I am just thinking in the mind of a noob. Also, for Half Elfs, you should not be able to choose Charisma as one of these ability scores.
Background should come sooner in the process. Helps avoid overlap of Skill Proficiencies.
Whenever I help people make new characters, I always tell them to choose Race and Background first, then I have them choose class. It also makes more sense. Race is who they are born as, Background is who they grew up as, but Class is who they are now going to be while adventuring. This helps avoid Skill Proficiency overlap.
Instead of going step-by-step Race, Class, Background, etc, why not make it even more visual and less linear? Make it so each major category is an icon, that you just click on to start that area. This would allow players to begin where they want to.
Ongoing-listing: What I mean by this is having a side-page that shows your choices updating would be great. When I use orcpub to create characters (or help friends make theirs), it is really nice because it shows your proficiencies, features, and anything else on the right side, and it updates when you choose something. This is super helpful to show what you have so far.
With Races, it feels a bit much to have all the sub-races right there. Instead, have them choose a race, which then leads to a follow-up choice of subraces.
The character level / xp management doesn't allow you to reduce the current level after you've set it (if for instance you've made a mistake). Even in the Manage XP sub-window, the "Remove XP" function doesn't actually do anything when you click apply.
When I choose the Folk Hero background, it allows me to choose the Disguise Kit and the Forgery Kit as my artisan's tools proficiency. But neither kit is an artisan's tool.
Also, choosing Folk Hero does not add my proficiency bonus to Animal Handling, though it lists it as one of the skill proficiencies for the background.
BUG: The random character generator violates multiclassing character generation rules. I just randomly generated a Level 5 character. It popped out a Bard/Warlock with only a 11 Charisma. It would need to have at least a 13 Charisma to multiclass into either of those classes.
Improvement: Automatically add equipment for the class and background when creating a new character. Choices should be presented with descriptions of the item you pick between. Currently manually searching for and adding all the equipment seems like unnecessary manual work. Adding a pack should add all the items inside it. Maybe in a dropdown so you can collapse/expand the pack? This could be made general for all item bundles and support custom bundles at a later time.
Seconded, with the caveat that there should be a button to automatically add the class/background inventory rather than simply adding it. Rolling for random money and purchasing inventory that way allows for a great deal more flexibility.
Also, I would like to see any container (such as a backpack, or a bag of holding) be given some sort of container property as well as its capacity so that in your manage gear screen you can 'place' items in that container, which can then be expanded/collapsed in your digital character sheet. On my paper character sheets I like to organize gear by naming the container and listing the items inside that container underneath, indented slightly.
I was thinking these very things! Rather than just adding that equipment pack to your inventory, it should add all the items contained in the equipment pack to your inventory. That way, if, say, a PC loses his/her rope or crowbar at some point, you can actually remove those from the inventory instead of just trying to remember that you no longer have them.
Also, is there a reason the arcane focus doesn't appear in the equipment list?
I have not seen it stated yet, but on the Spells page, when you select to cast a spell at an higher level, it is not updating a field right above it.
Cure wounds: a 1st level spell. Right below the Cast Spell bar, and above the selector to choose what level to cast it at, it states “Regain 1d8 Hit Points”. When you select to cast it at 2nd level, it should increase to 2d8, but this is not reflected in that field.
I have 4 spells known. I have added 2 and and it appears to let me add a third and fourth but when I click on them "spells known remains at 2/4 and they are not added to the list.
Will those of us who've already spent $150 on our Players' Handbooks, Dungeon Master's Guides and Monster Manuals have to pay additional fees to unlock published content? How does that not punish players who bought hardcover editions instead of waiting for the day when all that content would be purchasable electronically?
My Feedback, I created a Variant Human Monk/Barbarian.
-I only have 2 choices for the 1 free feat as Variant Human -I could only choose 1 archetype for the Barbarian -It looks like the application is confused with multiclassing -The unarmored defense of the Monk and Barbarian is stacking up and my AC is 20 with (10+3Wis+4Dex+3Con) -The Backgrounds are also limited. I was looking for the Variant Entertainer: Gladiator -Is it really incomplete or it's just me

For the beta test, only material from the SRD and Basic Rules is available. The other official material will be added at the final release. The price for that is still to be announced.
I'm entirely jazzed about this, as what little I've seen looks super user friendly and intuitive. However, I can't get past the add a class page with any character thus far. It just gives me the red spinning circle of hypnotism... Hopefully whatever bugs are clogging up the works get squashed soon. Keep up the good work!

Yes for the spellcasters there is a problem. It has been reported to the devs.

Also when I go to view the character I made I get this error:
Character Sheet Load Error

In the character builder I added a background but changed my mind and tried to reset to nothing... Locked up

Alright, I have the dueling fighting style, but I'm not getting a +2 to damage for my longsword.

I love just about everything about the Limited Use box on the digital character sheet!
EDIT: Except shouldn't it say "Once per day" instead of "Once per dawn"? That sounds a bit awkward.

The character image box on the first page of the character builder should allow one to upload a picture rather than just choose from the ones offered.
Also, the ones offered should come with mouseover captions ("male hill dwarf," etc.).
Loving it so far, although admittedly I've only played around with it for about 30 minutes and created a single character.
I'm just wondering if we will eventually have the option to export to Roll20; the description of the upcoming "export" feature only mentions printing.

A DnD noob who doesn't have anyone to play with :(
