Because I’m a dork, I enjoy sitting around and imagining fun items that allow low level players to interact with magic items, or ways to reskin items to add to seasonal fun. So I wanted to see what kinds of items you all might want to put forth for group consideration. I also have a good starter list of ideas you’re welcome to use if like me you’re writing a One shot to just be a fun Christmas party type session. Or, as I’ll call them in my newness to D&D and naïveté “Fun-shots” (I should probably check uban dictionary or something to make sure that’s not some slang term for something else I don’t want these to be associated with.)
A Santa Hat of Generosity: It’s more blessed to give than receive. While wearing this hat, if you give a gift of coin or items the hat(DM) deems worthy, The hat readies the Bless spell (1st level)to be cast at will. While the spell is readied, you grow a magnificent white beard. If you remove the hat before the spell is cast, the spell is lost until a new gift is given. If you give the hat as a gift, no spell is readied, but you find a lovely, sincere, handwritten thank you note in your pocket for each gift you gave while wearing the hat.
Dollar Store Reindeer Antlers of Druid Impostery: This plastic headband with felt reindeer antlers wouldn’t fool anyone else into believing you’re a druid, but Mother Nature says “ehh. Close enough.” While wearing these festive antlers, once per short rest, you can use the Produce Flame cantrip.
A gift card to Barthen’s Provisions in Phandelver for 5gp (or wherever your campaign has your players shopping a lot
Ugly Christmas Sweater: Nothing could bring you down when you look this Festive; ADV on CON saves. However, you still look like a dork; DisADV on all CHA checks.
A fruitcake that makes a nice improvised weapon.
A bag of Lego pieces. Reskinned Caltrops (am I right, parents?)
Fireflower Poinsettias: Each bloom, when thrown, makes a Firebolt that bounces toward its target in the style of Mario Bros.(Yeah, nothing Christmassy about Mario, but it’s fun!)
A Stocking of Holding
A bard instrument that only plays Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer and deals psychic damage to all who hear it.
Depending on the responses I get to this post, I may chime in with more, but I’ll wait to see if there’s a market for such ideas before creating the supply.
A green branch of hickory that when presented to a parent it commands them to approach their children and used the Detect Naughty & Nice Spell, if Naughty it casts Compel Duel on the parent againts their child.
Mistle-Foe
During the winter holiday season locals hang Mistletoe that due to it's natural magical affinity tends to collect raw magical essence derived by the good will of the surrounding towns folk and enchants the Mistletoe compelling two passers-by to kiss one another in good spirits.
But sometimes it can go horribly wrong, the magic can spoil and cause the enchantment to bestow a Curse upon the passers-by to compel them to fight to the death. (the curse ends when it runs it's course resulting in a death, or a Remove Curse spell on each of the effected passers-by.)
The Coin of Scrooge
This coin is a devious little item, it always seems to place it self in places that only the most greedy seem to find as if they tripped over it. Upon picking it up, it compels the wielder to find and make friends with complete strangers and proceed to bankroll the best night on the town that can be afforded by the player leaving them flat broke, and in some cases with out any other material possessions aside from the mundane clothes on their back. Wisdom saving throw variable DC 20 leaves the coin where it lays, 13 spends all their coin, ELSE total loss of material possessions.
As far as weapons go, one thing I’ll be doing with my four kids’ characters is giving them strips of colored cloths with eye holes cut out (the masks of the Turtles) The masks give you proficiency with their associated color’s weapons (Red=Sais. Or Daggers as far as the rule book is concerned) and allow you to use your STR/DEX modifiers on your off-hand attack with that weapon when wearing the mask.
I’ve also thought about a garland whip.
I also brewed up a Boomerang of Senseless Violence. It craves head shots. If your successful attack roll after all bonuses and modifiers is 20+, you hit the target’s head and this boomerang will add 1d6 psychic damage. Otherwise it’s a normal PHB boomerang. I was just going to say it was pretty normal looking and just put it in my Rogue daughter’s stocking as a gift, but I suppose it could be striped like a candy cane.
A wreath of grappling. Throw this wreath like a life preserver at a target, making a ranged attack roll. On a hit, the wreath slides down the target’s body, binding its legs together.
This is beyond perfect for my lil xmas session coming up so thank you!! A travelling cart on the road run by some in a red coat with white trim is going to stop with these offerings!! <3
A Bag of Holding, but... wait, there's something already inside this thing... Holy handbaskets, there's a whole bunch of wrapped somethings in this bag. This one says "To: Gregory. From: Santa." ...Oh...
Gift Wrapper Make a ranged attack +dex+prof B. On a hit, target takes no damage, but must make a DC 18 STR save, or be restrained inside an expertly wrapped gift box! On their turn, target can make an additional DC 18 STR check to free themselves.
Mistletoe of Attraction Select a creature you can see. Target must make a successful DC 18 CHA save, or be charmed by you to the point they will do anything (including attacking their allies) for a kiss! Target gets additional saves on their turn, and if they take damage from you or your allies.
Sharpened Candy Cane functions as a +1 dagger, but on a hit, target must make a DC 18 Dex or have damage halved until the start of your next turn. In addition, target may make one action, one bonus action, OR one reaction, but only one of these on their turn.
Cocoa of Resilience Consuming this toasty chocolate beverage restores 1d6 hit points, and makes you temporarily resistant to the last type of damage you took.

These are great, how about some practical magic weapons?
Elliott Neve
I think the whole idea here was to be whimsical and fun - practicality is over-rated.
I love this. Now I want to run a Christmas-themed one shot next month.... I'd love to hear ideas for weapons, too
I know that but i have no creativity and i would like some 2 use.

Lol red ryder boomerang "you'll shoot your eye out kid." 😋
How about a Snow Globe
You shake it and it snows for 2d4 hours once per day.
"No! Don't let the Cat have it!" 🤣
