So, I'm not entirely sure this is the right place for this but it seemed like the best option so here goes. I am new to DnD, I literally started my first play by post just last week and I have also signed up for an online voice/chat game via discord and you guessed it, roll20. I've gone through the tutorial and have some vague understanding of how it's supposed to work but compared to DnD beyond the character sheets especially are a mess. Any tips for either making the task of filling one out for an eight level character less daunting or even better, transferring a sheet from DnD beyond directly to roll20's system somehow? DnD's builder just lays everything out so clearly and roll20 just doesn't so I have no idea where to put feats or class abilities or anything. Please help me, lol. The game is running a session zero this Saturday and I am woefully unprepared so any other tips or tricks in regards to roll20 in general are more than welcome as well.

That sounds so much easier/better but I'm not sure the whole group will agree with me and I don't want to make things harder on our Dm. It's their first time dming and they're going through their own learning curve. No harm in asking though I suppose. Thanks!

Wow, new to DnD with a first time DM and you're using 8th-level characters. That's a challenge! Good luck!
What I'd recommend doing is start by just configuring your stats on your Roll20 character sheet--input your Ability Scores, HP, AC. Then check the boxes by your chosen skill proficiencies. Probably the most difficult thing will be setting up your attacks, but after that's done you'll have all the number based stuff ready to go for your first session. As the game progresses, you can input the rest of the character feats, traits, etc. but with Roll20, the numbers are the most important place to start.
I remember there was something (a Chrome extension I think) in the forums around here to import a DDB character into Roll20... let me have a look (will edit once I find it, bear with me)!
EDIT: ok, found SOMETHING Not sure how the two options suggested work, but I think these are the best options at this time to have some sort of automated import from DDB to Roll20

My group uses DDB for character sheets and roll20 only for the map.

Born in Italy, moved a bunch, living in Spain, my heart always belonged to Roleplaying Games
Importing to Roll20 requires the DM on Roll20 to have a Pro sub and the API script on the game.
I also echo the good luck on new folks starting at level 8 - always recommend starting at lower levels for brand new players.
