i might add that yes, this might screw she up the master tier sub if that is the concern... but perhaps not. Those that purchase the content could still use master tier as the set up is now. Those that wish a subscription would only Be for themselves... like hero tier... or to share with 1 other or whatever.
It would be online, but then that also means the DM doesn't have to buy all the content...he doesn't have to harass players to help pay for his sub. Everything is balanced and fair for all players.
"I just play... why do I want to spend more money..." um... because it's not fair to dump the cost on one player? This balances that out.
I was actually in favor of a subscription model where you pay more monthly for all content unlocked, but then I did the math. It's way cheaper to buy things once, maybe even piecemeal.
I am curious to see if discounts will be provided to complete book purchases when select content has already been purchased. IMO they should do it that way, and it will only help the argument that the pricing isn't that bad.
I think one of the main disconnects is that the ANTI camp sees it as buying the same content, whereas the PRO camp does not. I do not, for example. I see it as VASTLY different than just a PDF file. I could go on with more analogies to other products, but I've been there and done that. Just know that continuing to debate that you're buying the same thing again is not reaching anyone who doesn't already see it that way.
If you don't already have a group, I personally would not recommend going all in on this product. If your group already uses other products, discuss the need for this product with them first.
If you have a stable group willing to share the cost, this seems like a great product to me.
The only way I could see a subscription method working to unlock all content is to remove offline accessibility to that content. Like netflix, you'd be required to access that content exclusively online.
I'm ok with that, but offline access has been one of the biggest selling points so far.
Not true at all. Spotify has offline access. You simply need to connect the device once a month to renew the license/subscription.
This is a solved problem if they look at other industry examples.

Staff is always listening, and this is a good conversation at this point. Its made me curious to the reasons why more options would be bad.
I have to admit that im not a fan of this pricing...
I feel like if I own the book and can prove it the online content should be free...
More over Im not sure how I feel about having to pay for online resources and then on top paying a subscription to allow my players to see it. I feel like it should be one way or the other.
Unless the pricing model changes I will not be using this service and I will not recommend to or use with my players.
That said, I really like the work the devs have done on this site and I can tell there has been allot of love and energy put it, I really hope poor marketing doesnt kill this site.
...do you want to play the same thief over and over with only 2 feats? probably not.
You are, incorrectly, assuming the only thing which people use to consider one character different from another of the same class are mechanical customization options. People were satisfied playing a thief (or a dwarf, elf, fighter, etc.) every time they had a chance with the old D&D boxed set version of the game when all that was differently mechanically were ability scores, HP totals, and what items the character used.
Sure, you might have a preference for more crunchy options, but the free basic rules/SRD only D&D 5th edition game is plenty for people to play with for years and years - much like how I can still pick up the old Rules Cyclopedia and still do something that feels fresh and new.
I feel like if I own the book and can prove it the online content should be free...
The problem there is the proving.
There is no way to actually prove your current ownership of a book because they don't have (and might not ever have) unique identifiers. If you didn't buy it from the right type of place, you might not even have a receipt that clearly states what book was purchased. Even if you do have a receipt, there is no way to be sure you didn't return or resell the book. Even a time-stamped picture of you with book and clearly-marked receipt both in hand isn't proof of that being your book, and not the same book someone else took a similar picture with, because the logistics of having someone in place to vet every attempt to prove a purchase are a nightmare, and that's before you factor in all the people upset that they bought the book some other way that leaves them without ability to prove the purchase.

Then don't.
Private Homebrew access will include the ability to enter material from your previously-purchased books. Master Tier subscription will allow you to share your private homebrew with your campaign.

I'm fairly certain that you'll be able to share your private homebrew with your campaign without having a subscription.
Pretty sure they check everything that goes through homebrew even if just cursory. They aren't going to allow you to enter live content back into the game that is copyrighted. I know people have already been dinged for putting up copyrighted photos.
Photos of Printed Receipts or Online confirmation numbers, perhaps a photo of you holding onto the books. I have seen this done to prove the purchases before.
No way is perfect but I think its a bit... not sure what the right word is.... to charge people multiple times for the same content. (3 times if people bought PDFs as well as hard copies...)

That's because they entered it as public homebrew. The devs have confirmed that private homebrew will be unmonitored in this thread.

I would say the real problem is the fact that nobody every compensated Curse for that previous purchase. And they are not obligated in anyway to provide you content you already own when you bought that content from someone else.

This is more of a conversation to Wizards of the Coast as opposed to Curse and DnDBeyond. WOTC has made a monetary agreement with Curse. Curse is allowed to sell the content for X.
Honestly, I think there is very little that will be accomplished here. They didn't pick those prices out of thin air. They have contracted terms which we are not able to see.

Staff has specifically confirmed in this thread that for PRIVATE homebrew, you will be allowed to enter any content you want.

Services offered in either subscription don't appeal to our needs however the Digital books seem priced right.
Absolute clarity - will we need a subscription active to access our purchased digital books?
The real strength of digital over a physical book is the search ability. If we have to have a subscription active that will be disappointing.
Ni subscription needed to access purchased content. However without a subscription the tool will have ads. No infi yet on how the ads will be employed.
To purchase and then use the digital books, the subscription is not mandatory.
Unless I'm mistaken, you don't need a subscription to use purchases either, unless you want to run a campaign and give access to your material for your players, then you need a Master Tier sub.
