-crossing fingers for class and race homebrew options- :)
Love the new pricing stuff. Definitely taking the dive for the Legendary Bundle....after GenCon.
Races and subclasses will be added to homebrew options post-launch, but they are high on the priority list.
What about actual classes, not just subclasses? My players are cool with moving to 5e but want to be able to recreate their 4e classes. I'd also like to be able to bring my DMG classes into DDB.
This one was addressed, due to the complexity and ability to have a class do anything that won't be in the homebrew creator. BadEye did mention that they would likely be doing polls on what classes from DMGuild are most wanted and try to add those classes in the future.
Ouch. That actually kills most of the use I would have gotten out of this tool. Damn, too bad. I was looking forward to it, too. Thanks for the information.
That's pretty passive aggressive!
Those are our current plans. If there is enough demand within the community for base classes, we could determine to undertake the effort.
I thought it was rather straight-forward, myself.
My crew plays 4e using the good ol' offline Character Builder with CBLoader and my active D&D Insider subscription which allows me to use the 4e Compendium. They love their 4e classes, and are actively playing only one D&D 5e campaign because of a lack of character creation tools. They are willing to switch to D&D 5e but are hesitant to lose the feeling of their characters, so they wanted me to home-brew them like I did for the Warden and Swordmage on the DMG. Without that ability, they're not budging, so we're going to stick with 4e I guess except for that one campaign. If/when D&D Beyond adds the ability to home-brew classes, I'll be in, but until then there's no reason for me to use the tool aside from the occasional Compendium look-up when I don't feel like digging through a book.
I love the work y'all have put in and I wish you success. I was just under the impression that class home-brew was going to be in from the get go.
I've only played 3.5 and 5e, so my knowledge of 4e is extremely limited. I looked at the classes quickly and it seems like both of them could pretty easily be subclasses of a fighter or paladin. The Swordmage sounds a lot like the Eldritch Knight Fighter archetype from the PHB or the Bladesinger Wizard archetype from SCAG.
I noticed some inter-connectivity between those on the Master tier membership and the hero tier membership but what about those using this service free. (Example Being a DM has a master tier subscription but all of his players have a free account - would there be data sharing?)

There could be data sharing, but the free players would use some of the DM's 12 Campaign Sharing Slots.

The Swordmage is a completely different animal. The 5e Eldritch Knight borrows the Sword Bond feature, but they play very differently in a way that the usual Wizard spells can't replicate. The Warden is more Druid than Paladin, and has its own unique features that the Oath of Ancients doesn't even try to replicate. I think aside from the core classes and the ones that bear the namesake of 4e classes, the 4e class that is best recreated as a sub-class is in 5e the Avenger as the Oath of Vengeance Paladin.
Just a random question: Looking at the subscription prices, will there be any interaction with Twitch.tv, like twitch prime boons the same way it happens with amazon prime and amazon video?
Unless Wizards of the Coast is willing to reimburse Curse for such a discount, such a thing is unlikely to happen.
But the Insider still costs ~72 $ / year and since March 2014 there are no updates, no more new Dungeon or Dragon magazines but still the full price over all the years. Since they have no further costs for this (all D&D 4E) they could afford to share the money with the d&d beyond developers and offer a master subscription (D&D 5e) to their insiders.
Trying to make sure I understand this -- forgive me if this has been posted already, but I could not find it.
Hypothetical situation -- if I were to purchase the Legendary Bundle, and then Master Tier subscription, would then the members of my group have access to all of my books off the Legendary Bundle, or would they need to have their own Hero subscription? And follow up, can we rotate DM's with this -- can my son DM some and me DM other times with the above purchase plan?
Just a little confused about how to make sure all of my group is able to reap the benefits of this. I am planning on the Legendary Bundle and Master Tier, but want to make sure my groupmates (but especially my son) reap the benefits.

It's a good question, and one we'll answer in full in tomorrow's full explanation on subscriptions.
The short answers are yes, no, yes. Once we share the details, I believe folks will see content sharing is a really good deal.
With both this and our pricing structure, the explanation of them is tougher than the practice. Hopefully today's information paired with tomorrow's will make all of this much clearer.

It might be a bit of a kluge, but do you think it would be possible to use of the 5e classes (like fighter/champion, etc.) and build magic items that duplicate the 4e powers that are not present in the class?

As things are now - there is an announcement pending tomorrow which sounds like it may sweeten the deal even further - only one of you needs a Master subscription to share the content included in the Legendary Bundle with accounts in the same campaign. The others can be on the free. The owner of the Master subscription need not be the DM. You can assign that status to others in the campaign, and you can change up as well.

I don't really know 4E either, so maybe the classes really ARE the different. It sounds like building full classes here is a long way off, but subclasses will be coming. Potentially you could use the best stock base class and biuld custom subclasses to duplicate what you need.
For my group, I'll need to build an artificer wizard subclass, and need the UA Revised Ranger before I can get them all on board, so I feel your pain to a degree.
I kind of wish there was an "almost" legendary bundle, that only had the things that would be used in the toolset, and not the additional text and flavor. Just bundles of things that are used in the character creator.
A question I've yet to see is in relation to Unearthed Arcana. Is this something that might be pursued through Homebrew Content potentially, and if not specifically by Wizards, will we be opened up to homebrewing concepts that are not currently able to be homebrewed. i.e. Feats, Races. etc.
Officially adding the Unearthed Arcana playtest material is something that will be done in the future.
B. I also see that a Founder's week discount for the Legendary Bundle should be in order. It doesn't make sense to me to offer a deal that goes away as I give you more money. Either, give us the deal or not.
The price of the bundle isn't going to be reduced, as per the FAQ.
Logically, it cannot, because this would mean that D&D Beyond could never put any of the other items on sale, without offering discount on the Legendary Bundle and that would then upset everyone who bought it at full price.
Right. Totally understand. My concern is exactly about that. People who bought the LB at full price may be upset anytime they see a sale on any given book if that sale is greater than a 15% discount. A careful, patient buyer could end up with cheaper content than a LB buyer.
I suspect that by the time you could purchase the entire library for less that 15% off across the board we'd be looking at D&D 6e coming out in 6 months.

Crikey almighty, talk about a corner-case. Can't please all of the people all of the time. And hell, if you can put off purchasing content just because you want to squeeze out all possible, potential discount rather than actually using the product for that entire amount of time, then kudos to you and you deserve to get a slightly cheaper product after years and years of effort.
Me? I'll actually be gaining a benefit from owning it and using it during that entire time you're waiting for the pennies to drop.

If, after you've purchased the LB, they allow you to choose between a promotional discount that exceeds your 15% LB discount or just give you the better deal of the two, then it would actually be wiser to have the LB sooner. Because by buying the promotional content first and then the LB you would lose the difference.
For example, let's say there is a promotion on the XGtE (30% off) on December 24-25 (Happy Holidays!) or something.
If I waited to get the LB until after the promotion ended, I would have to pay the 15% difference in discounts. $30 - 15% (LB Discount) = $25.50 (LB price) - $21 (what I already paid for the promotion) = $4.50 that I now have to pay to get that part of the bundle.
If I bought the LB right away and DDB gave me the better discount, I would be able to take full advantage of the 30% discount instead of the 15% discount. Being able to pay $21 instead of $25.50.

That lack of appreciation or consideration and your dismissive "No." response to FAQs 12 and 13 have convinced me to stop spending money at all on 5E, in any form. Good luck with your revenue streams.
