There are a number of guides who notice you two are NOT from around here, and, one by one, they approach you offering their services.

Here's the first one. This is Azaka Stormfang.

She makes a sad face at Maldrek. Then she brightens, "Hey! Maybe Bacon can look into some sort of beast of burden? How much can a donkey cost? Or, since we already have an ass..." she raises an eyebrow at Mal, "Maybe a pack dinosaur?"

Don't worry about that. O'tamu will provide you with a small dinosaur to carry all of your stuff.

Hire a guide, and you guys should be good to go.

OOC > We don't got no 150 gp.

OOC: I don’t like Salida, she seems like one who markets themselves by knocking others down. Musharib seems like a reasonable dwarf, plus he’s free!

Edge asks Azaka where Firefinger is and for more information about the Pterafolk.  He'll ask Musharib how far to Hrakhamar and what he knows about it's current inhabitants.  He'll ask the others if there is anyway they can be persuaded to waive the down payment.

"Ack, ah! Ahhh, no you, put me down, oh no you don't not my Mountain Thunder bandana!" She notices, but probably can't stop him. She struggles to break free...

...and she slips out of his grasp, (edit) trying to snag her bandana on the way, but she leaves it. She dances away a few steps. "Oh, sir," she calls to the guard, "Sir, this man..." with an eye on Mal and a little smile, "...he's very handsome, and good at carrying things." She turns to the guard. "And thank you for keeping the streets clean and safe, these are the best streets I've seen in a long time. Much more civilized than Baldur's Gate! And so clean," she claps her hands, "And colorful! It's amazing here! Are you from here? I'm not, you probably can tell!" she chirps. She carefully ties the bandana back on, She sighs as Mal ties the bandana around his neck. "I so wanted big Mountain Thunder to win! But he was too slow. And old. Anyway! Love your city, thank you! Bye now!"

And she returns to the group.

OOC #1: I agree - I'm liking those two dwarves.  They'd be good in a fight against dinos!  We can't afford Hew, so how about Musharib?

OOC #2: It sounds like this island is mostly jungle and high mountains.  Do we need/have jungle equipment (machetes to cut out way through untrailed areas?  hammocks to sleep in, off the ground?  flasks to store the rain water in to drink during the day?  fire starting equipment to light fires in wet environments?  etc.).  Or how about mountain climbing equipment, such as ropes, etc.?

OOC > Bree has: waterskin, tinderbox, rope. We might need water resistant versions of all of that. And she does not anticipate enjoying sleeping on the ground in Chult. We def need a cheap guide.

Either dwarf would be cool with her. She likes the looks of Musharib, and Hew is missing an arm! What?! SO cool. :)

Also, off to bed. Pick a dwarf, West Coasters! (Or not, if you don't like them...)

(No one notices that the first guide also waives their fees in exchange for personal help? Any chance I can roll an Insight to see if something is off? They all have the same or similar sales pitch, but extra claims are baseless ("everyone else is a liar and thief, just trust me on this.").)

OOC > Barlow Yes, I noticed Azaka is also free if we help her, but the appeal of delving for a dragon is higher than falling off a cliff. At least, for me. I think some Insight rolls are appropriate.

OOC > Crispy, how many days of food is "as much food as you can carry"?

Bree and the rest should return to the villa, since we don't know where the other two went. Unless we get lucky and notice them on the way back.

None of the guides answer questions about locations without being hired. Musharib seems like the best deal since he will do it for free as long as you do his request first. You all have enough food for the journey. You wont need much else. The basics are covered. None of the guides are trying to pull fast ones on you guys. Am I to assume Musharib got hired?

OOC > Technically that’s up to Shariel and Edge. But Bree would hire Hew. She likes his craziness, and has a soft spot for lost causes. She may (may!) have put some money on long odds Mountain Thunder. Maybe. But we should probably hire Musharib. 

I'll give you guys mo time to decide. No worries.

Once you guys decide, the game changes a bit - it becomes a "hexcrawl" as you journey through the jungle.

I'll explain once you choose a guide.

OOC: I noticed both Azaka and Musharib are free if we work for them.  I'm good with either.  Barlow, it's just Edge and Shar here recruiting AFAIK, you want to go with Musharib?

OOC: Small little Clayton, Bree, Mal, and Yaseis are on both of your shoulders

On the way back to the villa, Bree interacts with the party members.

To Mal

"Did you pick up any discounts while I was distracting the guard? I didn't get a chance to signal, but I felt bad for acting all big-sister. Though I am. So I was trying to make up for it. Purple looks good on you." Bree is really smart, but not terribly wise. She doesn't make the best choices.

To Clayton

"You're a nice guy, Bacon. What's your deal? Are you really just the good guy in the black hat? And where does your magic come from? Also, I get to name our dinosaur. Don't you even think about it!"

To Yasei

She saunters up next to the young woman, who seems as out of place as anyone, but also comfortable in her own skin. "That was really amazing poetry, Yasei! Did you write that? I've run into something like that before, a performer who actually looked a little like you, but he was a really hard drinker, so not really like you? Anyway, you were better at it than him, probably cause he was really sloshed when I saw him, but anyway. You don't get out much, do you? Isn't this place awesome!" and she twirls a little, unwinding a beautiful filigreed scarf behind her as she turns, to have it detach and disappear in a spiral of colored smoke. She runs over to a stall and throws a couple copper (or whatever the price is) at the merchant. picking up two small juicy fruits and bringing them back, pressing one into Yasei's hands and chomping into the other.

When they arrive at the villa

"Master O'tamu! We bought some stuff, and gambled on dinosaurs, and it was pretty cool and we need a pack dinosaur for our trip, do you have one? Miss Silvane, how is the day keeping you? Have either of you seen Mizzy or Edge?"
