At the word "pirate," Ennis immediately tenses and the unmistakable look of fury flashes across his face. By the time Ghorbash finishes his question, Zenith is out of its scabbard, tip barely an inch from the half-orc's face.
"What brings me here?" he responds with slow, careful control, which does nothing to mask the air of danger in his voice. "The Dusk Raven, its captain, and its crew. I want to know everything I can about them, so I've been pirate hunting." His eyes are latched onto Ghorbash with a cold, piercing stare for a single long second, until they flash back behind the half-orc towards the bar, then around the room as a whole, taking in the renewed silence. He blinks once...twice, then visibly shudders as he slowly draws back and lowers his blade.
He locks eyes with Ghorbash once again and nods his head towards the door of the tavern.
(Assuming a barmaid brought Kathleen her order)Still wet from the rain, Kathleen tears into the meat like it insulted her ancestors. She only stops from time to time to breathe before digging back in. Once she's done eating, she'll pay the bill (5 clamm?) and go sight seeing. She has heard of the Temple of Waevus so she'll go there first.
(OOC: I know I said this but I did not expect a fight to almost breakout between PCs. During the tension between Ennis and Ghorbash Kathleen should still be eating at the tavern. So I'm changing my action based on the current situation if that's okay.)
Kathleen stands up leaving a half eaten meal on the table.
"Gentlemen, please. Let's not resort to violence just yet. Surely we can all talk this out. (Looking at Enis) Perhaps it has been some kind of misunderstanding and Mr.Orc over here wouldn't mind clearing things up with you."
EDIT: (OOC: I'm off to bed again. 3 AM here. Since Kathleen will be visiting the temple later, can I get a description of it? Also when she does end up going there she will probably try to learn a bit more about it by asking the people there. Religion22
Normally, I'd wait until my character goes there but I'll be out for about 7 hours. Sorry if I'm being pushy)
Watching the human expose his back, Ghorbash remains tensed. The tavern remains empty except for the bartender who still has his hands hidden behind the bar, an elf, and the two sailors. A calm, quiet voice from the tavern chimes in and Ghorbash replies, "Elf. This is our business."
As Ennis leaves, Ghorbash sits back down at a now empty table, and begins to drink a beer left by a previous patron. He nods towards the elf and smiles a toothy grin.
Pretty sure the tavern was full of people just a moment ago. My thinking was just that everyone went quiet because of the possible fight breaking out.
Id say if its important to your story, then no problem. but i envisaged that when Ghorbash turned over the table like a fight was about to break out, people left
Okay, that makes sense. And actually makes things a bit easier.
Ennis
When Ennis makes it to the tavern door without the half-orc following him, he sheathes Zenith. He stops in the doorway and looks out to see the last few stragglers scattering into the streets. His shoulders slump ever so slightly as he reaches into a pouch on his belt.
"I'm truly sorry about the disruption to your business for the evening, my good sir," he calls across the room to the barkeep. "It wasn't my intention to cause trouble. I know this won't come close to your incurred losses, but I hope it's enough to show you I meant well."
He places 5 crabbits on the table nearest the door before stepping out into the rain.
After his years at sea, a light rain doesn't deter Ennis as he slips through the city streets, heading back to the hostelry where he's already paid for his lodgings. He learned long ago that it's a good idea to drink or carouse in a different place from where you intend to sleep, specifically for occasions just such as this.
The hostelry, known as the Peregrine's Respite, sits about halfway up the side of a low hill, just a short distance from the harbor in an older part of the city. It's not the fanciest establishment around, but the halfling family that runs it, the Tosscobbles, do their best to keep it comfortable and welcoming to the usually poorer travelers who frequent it.
Stepping into the entryway, Ennis doffs his cap and cloak and hangs them on one of the numerous pegs on the wall that are intended just for that purpose. This is in fact his third time staying in Byting for a brief spell, and each time he's stayed at the Respite, so he's familiar and comfortable enough with it to not be too worried about his belongings. Stepping into the common room, he notes the family matron, Marigold Tosscobble, busying herself in the kitchen across the way, apparently getting ready for the evening meal that they offer freely to their guests. He approaches and catches her attention.
"Ah, Ennis, glad you're back so soon! Mind grabbing me some of the salted haddock from the storeroom in the back, and a few of the 'taters?"
Ennis responds with a smile before going to fetch the requested items. Upon his return, he immediately sets about washing and peeling the potatoes, falling into the familiar habit of helping the seasoned old woman with her cooking while he makes conversation.
"I didn't see the cart outside," he comments after a few minutes, "Is Halbert not back from the market yet?"
"Not yet, dearie. Tomas came by about an hour ago and said they were being held up a bit, something about one of the ships coming in a bit late. I expect we'll be just about done with all this before they make it back."
Ennis nods his understanding as he continues to peel and slice.

You find that the Temple is dedicated to Waevus, the god of the stormy sea.
Ghorbash with a full stomach decides it is time to leave this tavern. He decides to explore this village. While at the marketplace, he sees a beautiful temple dedicated to some sea god. He knows nothing of gods, but he does see the quiet elf from the tavern. He approaches her and says, "You are a brave one. Why are you here?"
Kathleen turns around a bit surprised but her smile still firmly on her face. "Me? I've been cooped up in my home for long enough. It's about time I saw the rest of the world. I heard this place had a temple people visit from all over so what better place to start?" She turns back to admiring the temple only to turn back to Ghorbash almost immediately. "You're Mr.Orc from the tavern, aren't you? I don't think we've been properly introduced. I'm Kathleen Burns but my friends call me Kathleen." She extends a friendly handshake.
Gris with his normal voice for a second : "Yes. Probably. The problem with gods is that when you please one... usualy you annoy other one. Which one will be the stronger?"
Then to Tom with his "old man monk voice":
"oy! Tom mister tell mi old man..is enything strange happening in the town? Some mistery?"

Kathleen walks around the temple before entering. She's trying to take in as much of the sights as she can. Perception9
The temple is made of marble with tall spires that rise into the sky. Columns hold aloft the stainless white roof, and stained glass windows depicting nautical themes let in scanty sunlight.

"Mystery, ye say? well, this isn't the kind of town you'd find a mystery in. But if ye'd follow me, I might have an idea. Where to find one."
Ennis continues to help Marigold in the hostel's kitchen, preparing the evening meal for both her family and any guests that are staying for the night, so it's a lot of work.

Ennis
Seeing the half-orc's reaction, Ennis simply turns his back on him to walk outside.

"Me? I have no use for such places, but my friend Gris here is a monk."

Question for DM. About what time of day is it at this point?
