”Now that that is settled we should take a moment to review our plan. I am worried about our current plan after seeing the size of the camp. Perhaps something less direct?”
Tailine sighs as her drgonborn companion allows the elf to change the subject away from the temple and starts talking about the orcs.
"I'm afraid you will need to answer the question about why you burned the temple." Stepping out from her hiding place in the tall grass is a lithe looking female tiefling with dark red skin and pitch black eyes. She will look from the Tortle to the Elf very slowly. "Arson is a rather serious crime."

”Of course it is. But Doc and Estellen certainly had nothing to do with starting a fire. They were at the temple to seek information on the whereabouts of this orc encampment but..the....fire.....” Quilqwen trails off as he realizes the other two never did explain what happened at the temple. Turning to Doc and Estellen. “What did happen at the temple this mornin?”
A sly smile develops across Doc's face. "A tiefling speaking of arson as a serious crime? Amusing."
Doc lowers his guard and steps forward. "The elf and I sought to eradicate the darkness we found had perverted the temple, so I suggested he burn it," he says, shrugging. "We found evidence of a blood ritual that had consumed the priest there, who we found possessed by an evil force. Everyone that had previously been in his care due to sickness were dead. Attacked, the elf and I made sure the priest joined those he slaughtered. Impromptu exorcism, if you will."
Listening to Doc’s tale Quilqwen tries to watch Doc and Estellen to see if they are being honest or holding anything back. He also tries to determine how the new comers react.
Estellen stands and puts a hand on Doc's shoulder, as though trying to tell him to stand down, and addresses the tiefling, "Indeed, we did set fire to the temple. It was not arson, but a purification. There was... something... trying to make its home in there, and it had corrupted whoever the previous caretaker was. It was nothing that any of you needed to know about, for the matter has passed and I have not felt its presence since. Does that satisfy your queries?"
Doc stands down, looking up at the wizard that has just placed a hand on his shoulder. He does, however, continue to nod in agreement as Estellen vaguely confirms his story.
Sleight of Hand:15 (Doc was telling the truth -- or at least, as accurate a recollection as his memory allows. Since Quilqwen is intently watching Doc, however, I'll say he sees Doc's arm gently move over his satchel, almost as if he means to protect it.)
The Aarakocra turns to face Estellen directly. And for the first time addresses the wizard not with half awe but with clear sharp rebuke that cuts through even the very different signs of emotion that he presents. “It does not! I will trust that you did what you had to do. But to hide your actions like this! How could we take that but as a sign of some guilt? I grew up learning of the nobility of the elves and trying to live up to that standard. It pains me to see that the elves may not live up to it. And I thought you wiser than keeping secrets and fleeing responsibility friend Doc. But you’re still holding something back. What do you have in you pack?”
Doc stows his Warhammer, sits down on the ground, and facepalms.
"Do not fault Estellen for the burning of the temple -- recall that it is I that suggested he do so. Also recall we met only yesterday, and frankly, neither Estellen or I have reason enough to trust any one of you with what we found."
Doc sighs, still clutching his pack. "As I said, it was an incredibly morbid scene. Six bodies, each laying in a large pool of blood. I can still see the priest's eyes, encompassed by a blood-curdling, hair-raising demonic blackness. I can still hear the unnerving, disembodied whispers coming from the priest as he sat rocking back and forth on the ground, whimpering. I can still smell the thick, disgusting air that filled the room. Blood, gore and limbs scattered everywhere...and that haunting, malicious, evil entity that Estellen and I were barely lucky enough to ward off! The experience was absolutely spine-chilling and traumatizing."
Doc looks troubled for a moment, but steels himself. "But I'm glad you all asked," he says to everyone, sarcastically.
Estellen looks surprised at the lecturing he receives from the Aarakocra, ”Beware what you accuse me of, and especially beware of what you accuse my people as a whole of. If I do not spill every little detail to you, then I expect you to trust and, more importantly, to know that I have proper reason. I would advise you keep your peace from now on, lest you cause more unnecessary strife between us.”
He then turns to Doc, “Do not take responsibility for my own actions. It was a worthy suggestion, but I would not let myself be forced into anything by anyone. As for your description of the scene... indeed it was extremely unpleasant.”
As he speaks, Estellen stands straighter, using his staff as support, and his face grows darker and darker.
”You say you cannot trust us but you are willing to trust us to fight along side you against a foe that greatly outnumbers us. You say we should not expect every little detail and to trust you but you shared nothing of this and lied to us. Even now you avoid taking responsibility for your actions. You demand we trust you but refuse to trust us.”
”Is there anything that happened at the temple that might tell us more of the fight ahead? We deserve to know at least that much. The rest can be felt with when the captives are safe.”
Turning back to the newcomers. “My name is Quilqwen. I am sorry for the behavior of these two. I...hope...they are telling the truth about the burning of the temple being necessary. But they should not have hidden their actions or treated you as if you were in the wrong for asking about it. There are people in danger here though. Please help us rescue them. I will help you see to it that these two come back and explain their actions adequately.”

( For Quilqwen's insight I'd say he notices that while the tiefling's face stays calm her tail is twitching in agitation and there is a moment of pure fury in her eyes when the Tortle makes his jab about her race. )
Listening attentively to the story she will try to judge if they are telling the truth. 14
"Well setting the fire didn't do much good if you were trying to hide what happened there, since the flames drew the attention of the entire town; who put the fire out and saw the whole grisly mess anyway. A few people nearly killed themselves trying to rescue those they thought were still alive and trapped inside.
She will look at the bird man as if taking his measure and then nod. "If you are trying to rescue those who were kidnapped by the Orcs I will help you."
Jatrin got bit annoyed of the Doc prejudgement against Tailine. Jatrin got bad vibe seeing that this rag tag group even barely know each other. The dragonborn ask Quilqwen "How many of them are there in the camps be it orcs or the survivor? Do you guys already have a plan on how to rescue them?"
”We has planned to attack from afar and try to mount damage before they were able to respond this weakening them. But the camp looked as though it could easily hold over a hundred orcs and goblins. So I’m not sure if that is viable. We could all try to sneak back up to the ridge and take a look.”
