Kulan looked at the prices of various things before turning to the group.
"Basic rations will be 10 gold per person for two tendays, and we'll need a donkey or two to carry them, so that's what, 90 gold there. We brought a rain catcher each before we numbered more than 5, so we'll need more of them. I think Inete would have her own aleady, as would Qawasha. Two more of them at a gold each, and we'll need insect repellent. It looks like the incense is cheaper, but I personally think the salve will serve us better. That would put us down 102 gold total, so that's all the money Inete offered us, and a further two from our patron's payment. We have 43 gold left after that, before we start dipping into our own personal funds. What else should we purchase that I've missed?"
Undril listened intently as Kulan spoke, then nodded to herself. Understanding how the materials worked now she moved to gather what Kulan spoke of, a rain catcher, she grabbed two of the gourds of insect repellent, and then the rations themselves. With a huff Undril piled everything onto the counter when Inete spoke up.
"Uhm, waterskins might be nice?" she said, and Undril paused. "Four should suffice well enough--empty, for the rain catcher." After a second Inete quickly added, "I have my own."
Undril nodded again and gathered up four empty waterskins that rested next to the gallon casks of water and scooped up four as well. She quickly dumped those onto the counter, followed by the coin that was needed to pay for them.
"Here," Undril said. The old man quickly scooped the coin back and began to count it, carefully, before he pulled out a lockbox and dumped the coin into it. He continued to watch the group like a hawk, even as Kulan gathered up supplies for the rest of the party, settled them down, and paid for them as well. Again he counted the coin, meticulous in his movements, and dumped it into the lockbox. Then he stuffed the lockbox away and waited. He watched the group and waited for them to leave.
The day passes off into night with little fanfare beyond the mornings dramatics. As everyone finally settled in to sleep for the night, a chill wind blew through the rafts and left many of the patrons highly unsettled. Perhaps, or perhaps not, there are little to no dreams this night as sleep came hard for everyone, the anticipation of finally settling out on this adventure clear. When the daylight dawned upon Chult, it was to a colder air than the days before. What previously felt hot, humid, almost muggy with the constant drizzle of rain and light wind, now holds an unprecedented chill in the air. Unseasonably, almost, the temperature has dropped. On a table, downstairs, rested a simple fair of breakfast, paid for, and a small sheaf of papers--a writ of exploration.
Courtesy of our mutual friend, read a small note, pinned to a jug. And no, the food is not poisoned. Although I'm sure you could check for yourself, if you wish.
After fed and watered, if the party so choose to partake in the food and drink left out for them in the silence of the inn--not even a serving girl wandered about; the quiet chill left everything just that bit on the edge of unsettled--a step outside reveals more silence except for a steady wind. The wind whistled through the buildings, sharp, and brought with it the cold into stark relief. The clouds overhead hang low with the promise of rain that isn't there, and the gusts are enough to put someone unaware of their own footing just a bit off.
Alone in the streets there is little else but to move on, and with bags already packed and people nervous to get this quest started, everyone began to out toward the meeting point were hopefully Qawasha waited, just as eager to get a move on. Sure enough, about the only patron settled into a seat in the what should have been rowdiest inn in the entirety of Chult, sat Qawasha and is vegepygmy Kupalué. They both glanced up when they saw the first person to enter through the door, and Qawasha cheerfully waved.
"Oh, oh there you are!" he climbed to his feet. "I was wondering if you would show. It's rather cold out today." His companion wavered and Qawasha waved his hand. "Oh hush Weed. You aren't going to shrivel up and die from a little cold." Qawasha turned, and clasped his hands. "So? Are we ready to depart?"
Vistani faces the wind as she looks up at the sky. The chill air feels refreshing despite the oppressive clouds. It didn't take a genius to realize something bad would break soon. A day of low humidity and chill despite oppressive clouds fell out of the bounds of normal for Chult. She had performed stories and songs with such foreboding weather. History proved some to be exaggeration, but no doubt those days had felt like this one.
She steps into the inn noting the rather boisterous greeting. She smiles.
"Just another day. Rather refreshing if you ignore the clouds and the obvious abnormalcy."
He voice rings out louder than expected in the all too empty inn.
"Come to think of it. It's too quiet in the streets and public buildings like everyone left or feels the need to hide."

Through all the negotiations and price haggling over supplies, Korine had kept silent and in the background. She found that she simply didn't have a head for such things and when she'd been on expeditions with larger groups in the past, the Quartermaster.
When morning came, she had her fill at the table, gathered her gear and was eager to depart the inn and see a proper start to this new adventure. The chill in the air caught her by surprise after the hot days that had come before, but she welcomed the change, as unseasonable as it may be to the locals. "This feel more like a normal day back north, but it doesn't appear that the townsfolk appreciate the change," she mentions in passing as they walk. "Still, I'll take the cool while I can."
Arriving at the new inn to meet their guide and his odd "companion", Korine eyes the vegepygmy with interest, having ever encountered such a being before. "A pleasure to meet you both, I am Korine Thunderfist. We're glad to have you along so we can benefit from your expertise."

"Now that you mention it, the streets did seem too empty. Any idea why, guide?"
Kulan stands, waiting for a response, before stepping forward and offering his hand.
