Nice, if Barlow would prefer to play Shariel as he originally wrote then we can figure out how Kevash and Boresh might end up as a duo. I could easily go with the outlander background and they could've met sometime shortly after Kevash's trial with the alligator, or maybe Kevash's Dragonborn clan had encountered Boresh's barbarian tribe somehow before.
Not sure what you meant by how I originally wrote Shariel?

Maybe Boresh helped Kevash through his trial. I mean, we are level 5. So this isn't our first adventure. A giant alligator would be a good encounter for 2 1st level adventurers!

Sorry if I wasn't clear, I offered to you the idea of rewriting our characters as having fought together as gladiators. The original post was here. If you're up for it, I'm willing to change up my character's backstory, but if not, that's perfectly fine!

That's very true! I offered the pair-up to Barlow first so to be fair we should wait for his word, but your suggestion would make a lot of sense for our characters too.
What if Boresh and Shariel teamed up, then met Kevash during his trial?

It may lend quite well as a continuation of Boresh's backstory. After being shipwrecked, he was picked up by slavers and sold to the gladiator/slaver estate that Shariel resided in. In a drive for revenge, maybe Boresh orchestrated the slave uprising?

Haha, that's a nice, neat little solution. I'll get to rewriting Boresh's backstory now, but I guess that's the gist of the "how do we know each other" for at least three characters in this campaign already. Quite convenient, I'd say!
Edit: actually I really like the suggestion of just treating the meetup between Shariel and Boresh as a result of his being shipwrecked, partly because that means the backstories of both characters don't have to be rewritten at all. It all just transitions smoothly together! Great idea, Barlow.
Just for clarity, because this will be immediately apparent if it wasn't already, but Shariel is on the extreme end of moral ambiguity. Some days, she may fight against a tyrant, other days, she'll lead a village to slaughter for a payday. Who knows? It ties in with her flighty, elusive, Nomad specialization.

I think that's fine, Barlow. I mean, we all sort of start this one way right? Kevash was originally a reclusive tribal mystic. Then these other characters come into his life, draw him out into the world, and slowly it effects him. He starts out bordering Lawful Neutral and True Neutral, but I feel this may bend his alignment to the "Good" aligned side of the spectrum. He never had people around him like this before....so close to being friends. His clan is there for the survival of his kind. They focus on their responsibilities as such. So the people of his clan aren't recognized as friends or family. Just a big mechanism working towards one end. Being on these adventures is definitely Kevash's first exposure to what could be considered true friendship.
Thanks for the clarification. I think, having witnessed first-hand Shariel's morality pendulum in full swing either way - both as a spectator and as a fellow combatant alongside her in the arena - Boresh may have acclimated to that aspect of hers by the start of the campaign. If Shariel's ambiguous morality ever comes up as a point of contention for any of the more morally rigid characters, Boresh might be the first to laugh it off and explain that "that's just how she is."
Hm... know what? I think I'll bite the bullet and give this a shot. Been looking for something that wasn't a full-length, large-scale campaign to try PbP, and you guys look like fun to play with, so I'll throw my hat into the ring! As stated above I'm super new to PbP tabletop games, so please feel free to yell at me if I mess something up! :p
Right now I'm thinking I'll try a paladin of some sort, but I might want to try an inquisitive rogue from Unearthed Arcana (and probably update to the Xanathar's version of it when it comes out) if that's okay. Dunno how useful an inquisitive would be in a dungeon crawl, but that's where the character idea is heading, haha. I'm still leaning more paladin at the moment, but I'll do up sheets for both and then decide between them before I post to sign up proper, maybe based on what any other players join with. I'll be back as soon as I can with a character ready to go!
How much gold should I have at this level? can we have anything magical if so is there a limit on what you will allow?
For the purposes of the adventure, I would say 500 gp would be more than enough to start with. As for magical items, I think I'd have to look at them on a case by case basis. As a general rule of thumb, I might not want to allow anything that could make the adventure too easy. Btw, love the idea of one or more characters having a prior history working together, not that everyone necessarily needs to know each other though.
Current head count so far: Griselda - Human Warlock/Cleric, Kevash - Dragonborn Druid, Kiellie - Dark Elf Rogue. And I think Boresh's sheet may be forthcoming?

Understandable. Ideally, I'd like to give Kevash either the staff of the Adder or Staff of the Python. They seem fitting for a swamp Druid. For fun, I could take the slippers of spider climbing. Finally, if none of those are do-able, then maybe a small assortment of potions? Kevash is a Shaman with proficiencies in herbalism and alchemy. He also has the appropriate tools for them. At any rate, I don't want to detract from what goodies can be found in White Plume Mountain. Just some interesting suggestions.
Hi, Oddlot! I look forward to working with Griselda as well! Kevash will definitely have some a couple of Healer's kits (probably some he's fashioned himself) since he's proficient with herbalism and alchemy.

That ties us together very neatly, I think! We have plenty of room to "encounter" anyone else that joins the group, too.

I'll happily take those, thanks! I love the slippers of spider climbing. They are simple pieces of magic equipment, but they are some of my favorite.
