Then his hand shoots up and grasps at the dangling length of rope. For a fleeting moment, he thinks he's stopped his fall, hanging by one hand over the chasm. He can hear the rushing water far below.
Then, a strand of the compromised rope snaps. Then a second. Then, the old rope unravels in earnest, and Bel feels it give way under his weight.

Thinking fast, Aregarak cuts the lines with the dead orc's axe as he sees Bel slipping and is already launching himself downwards to grab the falling rogue.
Together, they swing towards the far end of the chasm—Aregarak has the rope in one hand, and Bel in another. It's a simple matter for the incredibly strong Minotaur to haul them both up what is now a rope ladder. (No further strength checks required!)
Bel attempts to cross the bridge with his rope to try and repair/ reinforce it.
