About an hour passes as the new group starts to get acclimated to each other. The Elven Rogue, Crispy, is the life of the party, rolling some really high charisma rolls helping to lighten the mood and set everyone at ease with stories of her adventures. Some of them seem to be, shall we say, embellished a bit, but everyone humors her and seems to be enjoying them.
Suddenly, a large, red-headed man in a black leather apron bursts thru the door, his muscular arms bleeding from some pretty gnarly gashes. A look of panic and terror is on his face, which is dirty and starting to swell up and bruise. He looks like someone beat the hell out of him.
“Bess!” he yells. “They got my Bess!”
He drops down to his knees and starts sobbing as the crowd starts to gather round.
Lena sipped at her ale from the large glass, enraptured by her new companion's stories. So focused on Crispy she was, that she nearly fell off her chair when the doors where forced open. After righting herself she began to look for the source of the noise. Seeing the crowd gather over by the door, Lena hopped off her chair and began pushing her way through the crowd. When she finally arrived at the source of the commotion, she lets out a startled gasp.'Oh dear, that poor man.' She thinks as she examines his cuts and bruises.
"Excuse me , sir, my name is Lena. I'd like to help you if you let me." She says as she slowly begins walking toward him, holding her hands up to try and show she is no threat. While approaching, Lena tries to use her knowledge of medicine to see if there is some way to stop his bleeding.( 9 )
(OOC: I just went ahead and put my dice roll in here, let me know if you want to do skill checks another way though.)
(The man looks up at the young Halfling, still sobbing, but with a look of gratitude in his eyes. His cuts don't seem to be too deep, but you can tell his face is probably going to be swollen and bruised for days.)
"Rickard! What's happened?"
(Willfred rushes to the side of the fallen man, who is still very distraught. His injuries, though numerous, do not seem to be the main source of his despair. He tries to compose himself, trying to answer in between sobs.)
"Gob... goblins. They broke into my workshop. I-I-I tried to stop them... I think I even killed one of them. But there were too many. They stabbed at me and beat me with clubs and... when I woke up my daughter was... gone!"
(Rickard quietly sobs as the crowd murmurs their disbelief. WIllfred starts explaining things to Lena as most of the rest of the party starts gathering closer.)
"Rickard is the Blacksmith here. And Bess, sweet little Bess is his 8 year-old daughter. She means the world to him. All he has ever since his wife passed a few years ago."
(A look of sudden realization appears on Willfred's face, a smile on his lips.)
"Rickard, my friend, don't despair! Look here! These here fine folks (he points towards the party) are skilled adventurers!"
“You-you’re adventurers? Please, you’ve got to help me! If I lost my Bess, I… I… I can pay you! I don’t have much, but I would give all the gold I have in the world if you can get my daughter back to me safely. Will you help me? Please, I beg you!”
(Rickard throws himself, both figuratively and literally, at the feet of the party, begging for help. The party begins to talk amongst themselves.)
Spoiler for Lena:
Good job fleshing out Lena as compassionate and kind. :) I'll leave it up to you if you want to try to talk your party into helping or if you want to see how they react to the call for help.
Inlorys pauses only to buckle her quiver around her waist as she and the group of adventurers migrate towards the blacksmith. Listening to his story, one hand tightens around her bow. She itches to aim it at these horrid creatures who would steal a young child. Inlorys looks at the man who has thrown himself at their feet and reaches a hand to help him up. Once the man is on his feet again, she says, "We'll find your daughter, Rickard. And we'll not accept a single copper piece for doing what is right."
Looking to her new companions, Inlorys shoots them a look, daring them to disagree with her. She turns back to the blacksmith. "Do you know where the goblins might have taken her?"
I'll don my bag, pull my hood, grab my staff and head for the door past Rickard. "Speak for yourself, Lorys. He may be able to convince me of a barter at the very least, if he's a quality craftsman." Then, to Rickard, "Show us the way, sir."

Carxus stands over Lena and the blacksmith, his face twisted his face in disgust.
“GOBLINS?! Here? Oh, I don’t like that one bit...filthy creatures.”
His previous embarrassment forgotten, he grabs his gear and is almost out the door before he realizes he has no idea where he’s going. He back turns towards Rickard.
Satisfied by most of the group's agreement to help the man, Lena softly pats at Rickard's hand to get his attention. When he looks down at her, she gives him her best reassuring smile.
"Don't you worry sir, we'll get her back safe and sound. I promise."
(The grateful Blacksmith goes around thanking the adventurers, alternately hugging and enthusiastically shaking the hands of the brave party who has agreed to help him. He thinks for a moment before speaking.)
"As far as where they could have taken her... I haven't got a clue. I mean, I didn't even know there were goblins in these parts. I'm pretty sure there's a dead goblin in my workshop, maybe we can figure out where they went if we go back there?"
(He looks at you all expectantly.)
DM's Note: If you just want to go to the shop there's not really a need to RP, I'll assume you want to go. If you want to do something else first then please go ahead and post. I'll post the next part sometime tonight around midnight PST, so if you don't post by then I'm assuming you just follow the Blacksmith to his shop.
Gerard takes in this information while standing toward the back of the crowd. He's put his sword belt on, and is absentmindedly rubbing the pommel as if deep in thought.
I'd like to do an Insight check to see if I notice anything suspicious about anyone's reaction to this news: 15
Everyone in the tavern seems to be concerned for the poor Blacksmith, as they are all simple town folks. Nothing strikes you as strange or out of the ordinary as far as their reactions go.
(The party follows Rickard to his workshop on the North edge of town. The signs of a struggle are everywhere: Broken pots litter the floor, splintered chairs and tables, etc. A goblin lays dead on the floor, a poker thus his chest. The layout of his workshop is roughly as shown:
"Well, here it is. I haven't really had a chance to look things over, I went for help as soon as I came to."
DM's Note: You are free to look around. Remember, if you're going to roll, the difference between Perception (I look and see...) and Investigation (I see and deduce...) Also, sorry for the crappy Paint drawing, it's not to scale or anything, it's just meant to give you all a rough idea of how everything is set up.
Spoiler for Inlorys
Inlorys, your Ranger experience kicks in and you are automatically drawn to the tracks the goblins left. Using your Tracking skills (you automatically succeed) you are able to perceive that there were about 7 sets of tracks. The tracks seem to be going to a fence on the far northeast side of the property.
Carxus walks through the main entrance of the workshop, yellow eyes darting around the room. He briefly examines the broken pottery and furniture while muttering to himself.
”such a mess..such a mess.”
When he turns around and sees the goblin’s corpse on the ground, it brings a smile to his face.
”Good news Rickard, there’s one less goblin in the world.”
He smiles at Rickard, but Rickard’s bruised, battered, and worried face makes it clear he is in no mood for humor.
“Uhh, oh. Umm, do you have any idea why goblins would take your daughter?”
I walk around the workshop while everyone else is talking, or examining the body, seeing if there's any other clues or details I can spot while the others look at other things.
INVESTIGATION: 10
Welp. Nothing out of the ordinary here....! Yup! It's a workshop!
Lorys takes in the wreckage of the room, but walks past the goblin's lifeless corpse. She takes a closer look at the tracks - their size, form, how far into the ground they sink, if any odd substances have been beaten into the earth by the goblins' feet - in an attempt to gain more knowledge of the attackers.
Lena begins to examine the goblin's corpse, taking inventory of anything it might have on its body.
Dm's Note: Normally you'd have to roll, but I'll give you a 10 since you forgot. :) Also, since you're doing it in the middle of the room everyone can see.
(Lena begins to examine the Goblin corpse. He seems to have been young. He's wearing dirty, ratty leather armor, a rusty dagger tucked in his belt. 10 copper pieces and a few buttons and rocks in his pouch. The blacksmith tool seems to have caught him right in his little goblin heart, so you're pretty sure he died instantly.)

He makes a sweeping motion around the workshop.
”Is anything else missing?”
"Missing?"
(Rickard looks around for a moment.)
"No, no... tools are all here. I didn't have much to begin with. Everything else seems to be here. I don't know where they could have taken her. Maybe the woods? The Boar's Woods are past my property, but they're pretty big."

Welp. Nothing out of the ordinary here....! Yup! It's a workshop!
(Crispy looks around the workshop, admiring the tools and apparently fascinated by the anvil and stove. This just looks like a normal workshop to her.)
I'll take a shot at investigating the living quarters area, while the others are in the workshop, for any clues as to motive.
7
Sure hope there was a really easy to spot clue in there :)
(Nikta wanders into the living quarters. Nothing out of the ordinary: A kitchen table, a big bed and a smaller, cuter bed a few feet away. On top of the small bed you see Bess' little rag doll, a calico dress, big button eyes and hair made of yarn.)
"Her favorite doll..." Rickard says as he appears at the entrance.
"Will... will you please take this with you so she has it as soon as you find her? It might... it might make her feel safer. She must be so sca..."
(The big blacksmith chokes up a little, but manages to keep it together for now. He goes back towards the main workshop area.)
