Lena hums quietly sitting by the fire across from Nikta. She pauses and pats the area around the campfire, making sure the fire is far away from anything flammable. Her bed roll lay not to far behind her. Satisfied that the camp won't burst into flames she turns the two tieflings skinning the boar. She quietly calls out to them, "Miss Lorys, when you two are done can you please bring the meat over here so we can cook it." She then reaches into her pack and pulls out her mess kit, setting it up to cook the boar's meat.
For the DM:
If this is going to be a long rest I would also like to prepare my spells. I'm trading Thunderwave for Faerie Fire. The rest of my spells will stay the same.
Inlorys passes over the meat and edible organs to the halfling before gathering up the inedible bits. She offers Carxus a small smile. His purple face looks pale. "You did well for seeing such things for the first time. I threw up." She refrains from mentioning that she was eleven at the time.
She walks a little bit away from their camp and digs a hole in which to bury it. Returning, she starts scraping both sides of the skin. She quickly finds a nice rhythm. The repetitive task soothes her and she enjoys listening to the crack of the fire and the hum of camp. The smell of cooking pork causes her stomach to rumble, but she doesn't rush and only lets go of the skin when it's clean of flesh and hair. A few sticks later and Lorys has a drying rack on which she lays the skin to let it dry. If she had tanning vats or even just a barrel of urine, she'd start tanning it in the morning, but a night hanging by the fire will probably dry it enough that she can keep the hide around for a time without fear of decomposition. A thick hide like a boar's will make good sturdy leather. At best she'll make something that she can use. At worst, it can be sold when they return to a town.
"I can take first watch," Lorys tells the others as she finally settles next to the fire. "Unless someone else would prefer?"
(The party rests and enjoys their expertly prepared Boar feast, as Lena and Lorys show their skills in cooking and preparing the meal. Taking turns on the watch and being generally helpful of one another, the night passes uneventfully.
In the morning, everyone awakens bright and early, refreshed and ready to continue their quest. They make their preparations for the day. Lorys is able to pick up the trail and continue following it. The party keeps tracking the goblins for several hours, until they come very close to a clearing a little after noon.)
"I'll scout ahead," says Lorys, as she halts everyone to ensure there are no surprises. After a few moments she makes her way back to the rest of her party.
"Guys, I think we found where the goblins took Bess."
(Lorys describes the following:
"How do you guys want to do this?"
Your spell change is noted.
Spoiler for Lena
Carxus, for storyline purposes, please add Goblin to your sheet under languages. If you overhear Goblins speaking in their language, I'll throw what they say in a spoiler for you. It's up to you to communicate with the rest of the party as to what they're saying.
"I have no great skill at moving stealthily," Inlorys admitted. There were downsides to having horns over a foot long sticking out of one's head. "But if you three will handle the southernmost goblin, Miss Lena and I can detain the one to the north. We can then meet back here to learn what it can tell us. It would be foolhardy to enter their lair without attempting to learn all we can."
"I speak goblin, so if we get closer, I may be able to get us some more information," Carxus says helpfully.
(The party makes their way to the edge of the forest as stealthily as they can and remain hidden by the trees, the clearing in front of them. About 100 feet ahead, they see 2 goblins guarding a stone entrance. The goblin on the right looks like a serious little fellow, an intense look on his face as his eyes periodically scan the perimeter on the south side.
The goblin on the left, however, does not seem to be taking his assignment too seriously. He seems to be amusing himself with a dirty goblin magazine, hooting and hollering as he unfolds the centerfold and tries to show it to his more serious compatriot, who is visibly annoyed at his antics. They start arguing in goblin.)
Carxus, please roll a perception check, make sure you remember your bonus.
DM's note: Ok, so, just so you're all aware of the situation, you're all about 100 feet away from the guard goblins. If you try to shoot them with arrows from where you are you would have disadvantage if you have a shortbow but if you have a longbow it's a normal roll. If you make it to the forest cover to the north you'd be about 60 feet away from the lazy one and about 80 ft away from the serious one. Also, if you want your damage to be non-lethal please let me know when you roll.
If I'm reading what you all want to do correctly, Lena and Lorys want to sneak to the forest cover to the north and everyone else wants to wait until that happens and rush at / attack the one on the south. Is that right? If you want to sneak to that area, give me a stealth roll, and I'll incorporate it after the Carxus perception check.
(The two guard goblins start having an animated discussion... in Goblin.)
Spoiler for Carxus:
"Check out the *unclear* on her! Huh? Buddy?"
"Knock it off, Krang! We're supposed to be keeping watch while the boss does his ritual."
(Krang looks like he doesn't give a shit.)
"Dude, you're such a goody two shoes! We've been here for 3 days and haven't seen one single person! Nobody comes here!"
"It doesn't matter. Something happens and the boss will tear into both of us. So do your job."
(mimicking) "So do your job..."
(You all hear gibberish, but the serious one seems to be angry at the lazy one.)
"What the hell is taking so long, anyways?"
"It'll take as long as it takes. Boss said it might take as long as 24 hours, and they just got started last night."
"Then the kid gets it, right?"
"Yup. Needs to 'spill the blood of the innocent' to make the place all holy for the Goblin God."
"Well, that'll be fun, at least."
(The tension between the two goblins seems to be eased. The serious one almost cracks a smile. The lazy goblin goes back to his post, sits on a stump, gives a quick glance to the area he's supposed to be patrolling, then goes back to his magazine.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Oh dear, then we must hurry and save her." Lena turns and grabs Lorys's hand.
"Come now Miss Lorys, I can't do this on my own." She begins tugging at the teifling. Lena lets go of her hand and then walks into the surrounding woods. As she does she stays as far into the woods as she can while still keeping the goblins in view.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Lorys nods to the halfling and follows her to where they might attempt to take the northernmost goblin. Curse these creatures, she would march into their lair and loose each one's head from its miserable shoulders if she could. As it was she could not, so she kept to the trees.
(Lena stealthy makes her way towards the forest cover, followed by Lorys. About 10 feet away from the tree line, Lorys stumbles, kicking up some dust and making a little noise, before scrambling to find cover. The party freezes... but the lazy goblin is too distracted to care. He dismisses the dust as just seeing things. The party is now in position.)
DM’s note: Please roll initiative AND an attack roll if you want to try to attack. You all have 1 surprise round, your attack rolls will apply to the surprise round, the initiative will kick in on the next round.
