Then stepping over to Merrick, "I'm really sorry you had to see that - the punch wasn't meant to kill him, only to quiet him from calling out his compatriots."
"It wasn't you that murdered him," replies Merrick quietly. He looks at Lynistra, the new arrival . "I saw who killed a bound and gagged man in cold blood."
Kaemar walks away from the group seeing that Merrick has turned his back on the proceedings - remembering how Tuugum had upset him by executing the bandits the other day she goes over to him.
"He would have murdered you without a second thought, Merrick, he would probably have enjoyed it, but I get why you don't like this. I won't lie to you, I would have killed him myself, I'm sorry if that makes me less in your eyes, but I would not have done it for anger or revenge, just to stop him endangering the mission. Don't stop caring about it though, you'll be less of a person if it doesn't matter when you take a life."
She gives him an affectionate pat on the shoulder and then gives him some space.
"I've only known you a short time Kaemar, but I don't think you would have. You say it, but I don't think you would kill a man in cold blood. Combat is one thing, but killing a tied up man is another. Casual murder is evil, there are no two ways about it. Don't let others justify it to you or to yourself"
OOC: I think it makes sense for Merrick to lead out in front where he can scout and report. OOC2: JR and Quasimodal, please join the discord server. It makes this kind of OOC discussion go much faster. OOC3: For those of you that don't know, a melee spell attack or melee attack can be used to deal nonlethal damage, and knock someone out instead of killing.
http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/rules-answers-november-2015 "Is the intent that only melee weapon attacks can knock foes unconscious, or can melee spell attacks as well?If you reduce a creature to 0 hit points with a melee attack, you can knock the creature out (PH, 198). That melee attack isn’t restricted to weapons. Even a melee spell attack can be used to knock a creature out"
Yes, joining the discord server would help keep the thread focused on the events in the world. I'm posting a couple questions on game style there that I'd like you guys to answer.
The party continues on down the road with Merrick in the lead followed by Neega and Kaemar who are followed by Louis and Lyn. The sun is not yet up but morning mist starts to gather along the path. The eastern sky lightening ever so subtly.
Nature encounter check (Event on 17-20) 4
The party walks on, the sounds of the forest are close but not threateningly so.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(Oh we're gonna point some fingers, Merrick/Thordain? We'll play that game ;) Nature: 9)

"Did you hear anything the bastard spouted?! He was accomplice to theft, murder, destruction of property, and had every intention of find and KILLING US! What would happen if we left him, he found friends, then they ambushed us later? Would you sleep well knowing you were responsible for deaths because you didn't want to get your hands dirty? Alternatively, what if he starved? We're still part of his murder in that case. In the third scenario, let's say we turned him in to the authorities: what would their sentence be? Again, delivering him to death." Lynistra take a moment to breath and collect herself. "What I'm saying is that his death was accidental, but inevitable. Bad people suffer bad thing, but usually after they cause other bad things to good people."

"I've heard similar arguments many times. 'What if she went on and killed someone?', 'What if he did evil?', 'What if he murdered babies?'. The answer is always no. No, youdo not kill an unarmed and bound captive. Not even if they threaten you, not even if they meant to do you harm. We are not magistrates of justice, and it is not for us to be judge, jury, and executioner. That is the path of evil." replies Merrick firmly and with conviction. "All the could have, would have, and should have is simply rationalization for murder."
Sensing that this is turning into an extended debate, Merrick continues. "We can talk more if you want later. I won't shed any more tears over his death. But I will not be party to murder either. If we have a captive, I say we deal nonlethal blows."
Merrick then scouts ahead of the party, and comes back.
"Four Orcs ahead, ahead, one heavily armored. They didn't see me. I suggest I stay hidden along with Kaemar, and the rest of you approach the group. If it comes to combat, we'll have the element of surprise."
Lynistra was about to push the issue, but the mention of orcs quickly silenced her. "Should we try to talk through problems with the muderous garbage?" She whispers under her breath.

Kaemar looks back at the group once Merrick has rejoined her, seeing Neega a little way back she points at the half orc, casting message and then whispering "Have the rest of you come in at an angle so Merrick and I don't have our targets obscured. Good luck. It isn't too late to try to skirt around them though, they don't know we are here!"
Louis catches up to Neega and Lynistra, whispering, "Just because 'stealth 1' and 'stealth 2' are up front, doesn't mean we can get the drop on these guys, too. I say we flank and maybe we can surprise them right out of the treeline."
His knuckles go white gripping his war hammer, and finishes saying, "If these are the ones that's been chasing you, it'll be high time to give them a little retribution."
Lynistra draws her scimitar, figuring the situation may be too hairy for lack of a shield, "It's about damn time someone saw the sensible choice. Philosophy is good for schools and alehouses, not while running for your life."

Neega follows Louis' suggestion: try to edge, stealthily, closer to the treeline, from the orcs' flank. If she is making noise, face the orcs, and try to make enough of a distraction that hopefully the others in the group will still be able sneak attack.

Combat MapI've highlighted the edge of the cell where everyone is facing. Will use this for flanking advantage. If two sides are highlighted it's diagonal.
Let me know if the positioning needs to be changed prior to combat.
Currently surprise is intact.
Initiative Rolls:
Louis 15
Kaemar 7
Merrick 17
Neega 22
Lyn 3
Orc14
Orc2 8
Orc3 9
Orog 14
If this thing pops off it will go: Neega, Merrick, Louis, Kaemar, Lyn.
Then the first full round: Neega, Merrick, Louis, Orog, Orc3, Orc2, Kaemar, Orc1, Lyn.
(Not sure if I rolled the 2nd disadvantaged Stealth roll or if one was required: 4....kind of what I expected. Lyn hang in the back of the clankers lol)

// Those horses on the map are a gruesome nice touch. //
Neega's plan is to go up around the bushes/rough terrain (J9-K9), then diagonally down to N11, facing right. This will put her next to the Orog and Orc2. She will slash at Orc2 with her longsword.
