(If you have a magic item, (which you don't, but you will) you can use your prize option to trade it for something that's not in the chest if you take a magic item now that you don't want you can trade it for the thing you do want next time, if you don't want what's in the chest then.)
(Yes, a spell-scroll is consumed when used. Ritual casters can add them to their books, is why their included.)
(No, anyone able to comprehend a language can use a spell scroll. If you take the ritual caster feat the book is restricted to one class. Other ritual features have different restrictions. But anyone can cast off a scroll.)
New potential contestants arriving at the arena find the towering Coliseum full of spectators though there are still open seats scattered around.
A grumpy fellow sits in the shadow of a new looking structure. It looks like they're putting the finishing touches on a tavern overlooking the fights. Inside a gnome is tinkering with the taps, the kegs, the lights, whatever he can get his hands on. Two girls in their mid-late teens sit with a woman who may be to young to be their mother. They are joined by an excited 4-year old wearing a fancy fur coat. Employees are scattered around the Coliseum, helping patrons, keeping clean. (All proceeding are npcs, some are not my NPCs.)
In front of the building an Orcish girl with red hair sits oiling a great sword. Nearby a goliath rests in the sun. He looks like he enjoyed a rough night. A man with a ledger seems like he'd take bets, but he doesn't seem to be getting much action right now. An selfish man in dark clothes carrying a trident stands near one entrance his eyes glow with a faint unnatural light.
A group of contestants in the arena is being introduced by an energetic announcer with puffy sleeves and a puffy mustache. Another group of fighters is just emerging from the last fight. They seem excited about their prizes.
(After the current fight, in the complex, we'll have the level-5s out. Once that's started we'll start the next low level fight (probably tonight in game time.) Once the 5s fight is done we'll alternate between pre-5s and post-5s)
(The 5s will be a monster battle, as it was requested and they've not fought monsters yet.)
Viator carries his supplies of incense and herbs along with his brass brazier to a quiet spot in the woods. He places the brazier in the middle of a grove on a hill and fills it with dead twigs and leaves. He snaps his finger and causes the kindling to catch fire. He begins to chant softly as he feeds his little fire. This chant is different from his normal prayers. It is more primal, more arcane.
As the fire burns down, leaving red coals, Viator adds his incense and herbs. They flash and burn quickly, causing smoke to fill his little area of the woods. His chant intensifies, becomes louder, stronger, faster. The smoke permeating the air begins to swirl around the brazier. The smoke spins faster and faster, matching the tempo of Viator's chant. Suddenly, all of the smoke spirals toward the brazier. All the smoke gathers to a single point and explodes, releasing a blinding flash of light.
Viator has stopped chanting. He looks quizzically through the smoke toward his brazier. Standing there on the ledge, as if it had always been there, is a small northern saw-whet owl. He smiles and raises his arm horizontally in front of him. The diminutive owl let's out a small cry as it flies to land on his arm. Viator touches owl on its beak and the owl gives him a soft nip.
"'ello, Zephyr. I'm Viator." The owl screeches a reply. Viator begins walking back towards the town talking happily with his new familiar.

(Real time. Depends on the activity of the current fighters, probably longer than a day, but under 2, don't quote me. In game probably tonight. I'll roll for lighting so that effects when the days transition.)
( is a spell scroll a one-time use?)

Argoth wakes up unable to go to sleep and sees if he can go try and talk with some people.

Sounds good, I'm going to go to bed. Let me know when your getting ready to introduce me into the campaign tomorrow or whenever.

(Thanks, mate. Say, is there a pub in this place?)
(Sort of. The players who run the place still need to find a bartender. Its currently occupied by 'the girls'.)
(I think Baryk wants the job, but Adair isn't gonna hire him while Eldin's in the ring.)
