man I hated Eberron! I was a huge DnD fan. . I have played since basic version (red box). . through AD&D 1st including oriental. Then 2nd. . Darksun (still my favourite setting). Didn't like 3rd much but tried a few times (buying 3.0 only to have it replaced left a bad taste of course) I skipped 4th and am now loving 5th.
The reason I hated. . HATED Eberron is that I was waiting for a good online D&D game. I thought. . Wow. . dragonlance? Forgotten Realms? couldn't wait! Then . . . Eberron? Warforged? I still played and it was fun. Since I stopped playing that game I never gave it a second thought until I found this thread. Now I want to pick up some source materials thinking that I was just being stubborn and resentful and passed it off too quickly.
Thanks thread!
You may have been a little stubborn...lol but it really is a matter of taste. Not saying you have to have good taste to enjoy Eberron, just saying it just might the setting you're into. I never played it online, but I have heard mixed reviews. Some loved, some hated, some were eh...lol
I am glad this thread has given you a look into the minds of Eberron lovers and interested in checking out the setting. It really is intricate and really awesome. It's not only my favorite setting, it's the one that made me love D&D. I had fun with Dungeons & Dragons, I enjoyed it so much; but with Eberron, I found an obsession with this game that I never had with any game before. (I have since found other gaming obsessions, WoD andVTR, Rifts, Mutants and Masterminds, and now 5E.)
If you ever have any Eberron related questions or quips, we're here somewhere to answer them. I'm sorry the DDO experience wasn't the one you were looking for, that would make me pissed too!
But you're welcome!

I came on DDB and my first campaign the DM altered to Eberron. I wasn't familiar with the setting, but I nabbed some audio books for my long drives at work. I really enjoyed that campaign, but it went the way of a PvP campaign and died off with us having just reached level 2... If you decide to do an Ebberon campaign, let me know. I'd love to explore the setting further.
Sorry, I am a bit late, life has been crazy lately. But new Manifest Zone!!! :) Enjoy!

Just a heads up, we ran into some conflicts with scheduling, and we're trying for next week to record. Hopefully that'll mean two episodes in October.
Yeah, this is an old post to quote, but it's relevant....
I love Manifest Zone and would love to help keep it going. Have you guys considered using Patreon or otherwise monetizing it?
I'm sure you're all doing it because you love the setting. But, having it fund the occasional game accessory (or, at least break even on the cost of production/hosting) wouldn't be a crime.

We're specifically avoiding it for a number of reasons, but primarily because we don't want WotC to put us in their crosshairs.
Consider the following:
I asked permission from WotC to use official artwork, logos, and music for the podcast prior to developing it. They said no. That's why our album art and site look like the way they do.
Keith Baker is a freelancer and cannot officially produce content. Even though we don't provide content per se, we don't want to even look like we're trying to.
Monetizing it might come across as earning revenue on producing content. Again, we don't even want to look like that's what we're trying to do.
For what it's worth, we recorded an episode some weeks ago, and it's been on me to add the chapter markers to the mp3, create the show notes, and post the episode. I'm about halfway through it, but life has just gotten in the way with work projects, a family wedding, traveling, family obligations, and just trying to get rest in between. I'm hoping to get some of it out tonight or tomorrow.
Yeah, 5e is a great setting, but i'm disappointing by the lack of support for anything but Forgotten Realms, and that's coming from someone who loves the Forgotten Realms. Way too many published adventures, along with books, are FG exclusive. They try to justify it by showing that they haven't completely forgotten about other settings by adding like, one thing not in FG (like the Giff in Mtof,) but they, aside from CoS, never do anything big with another setting.

Having the Giff in Mordenkainen's makes me want Spelljammer in 5e. DnD in space is such a cool idea

Hi. I'm a 14 year old student looking to play D&D. If you don't have a problem with me, I would gladly join your session!
When the sun sets over the city once burned at the 10th hour of the 7th day of the 6th month, the loremasters unbind their knowledge, and the Keeper of Secrets is released.
We're specifically avoiding it for a number of reasons, but primarily because we don't want WotC to put us in their crosshairs.
<snip/>
That makes sense and I kinda suspected it might be along those lines. Here's my feedback, then:
1) I put some miles on my car and tend to fill the time with podcasts. There are several where I think, "I hope those ads give them enough money to keep this up." Yours is one of just a couple that I think, "Wow. I'd be willing to just flat-out hand them money to make sure they can keep going." (FWIW, the Mike Duncan "History of Rome" and "Revolutions" are the other.)
2) If I ever end up at a con or something where one of you guys happen to be, dinner or the first round of drinks is on me. I appreciate the quality work y'all do and it's a lot of fun to listen to. Thanks.
A question for all you Ebberon fans, and forgive me if it's already been answered...
If one of the new settings being revealed later this year is not Ebberon, how (under the current books and RAW) would you simulate one of the "Children of Winter" druids?
Would it be a new Druid circle, has someone published one under the Homebrew classes, or is there a way to simulate this with current rules?

Looking at the 3E feats for Child of Winter, they just gave vermin-related abilities for shape-shifting and animal companion. The former doesn't really change the power level, so I'd hand-wave it, and the latter is rather moot for 5E.
The most dead-simple way to emulate CoW for 5E is to take the UA Circle of Spores and reflavor it a bit. I think the bonus spells are fine. If you change "fungal" and "spores" to some variation of "shadow" or "necrotic" in all the class abilities, they largely still make sense. Even the Symbiotic Entity is just a glorified false life and smite combo.
If it makes you feel better, you could create a "Circle of Winter" sub-class based on Spores and tidy up the wording a bit. If you do that, I'd probably look to replace Fungal Infection with something else. I get that the CoW play with the dark side of nature, but zombies seem a bit too far. (Note, I've never actually used CoW in a game, so I might be missing something with the theme.)
Double agreement on the Circle of Spores. I would also add in some Tundra Land druids with an eco-terrorist bend and possibly some Moon Druids.
Winter druids, despite the name, focus mainly on vermin and insects over more majestic creatures. There's also some hints that they like bringing cold into the world, where only survivor species like the rats would thrive. So, play up that.

This is a great suggestion, thanks, I'm going to play around with it. Of course there are a lot of great "vermin" related spells, but having a specific sub-class would be nice. The Spores is UA/playtest material.... but the power level is a good place to start. Thanks!!

Like the old Siberus prestige class? I loved that so much! And Keith Baker is going to find a way to make Eberron stand out, look what he did with the Dragonmarks! As a subrace? WHAT?!?!?! I like screamed out loud like a madman when I was reading it... that's my dude, for real! I know Gary gave us D&D, but Keith made me fall in love with it. lol
I am kind of hoping for a new and improved action point system, tbh. I know, I still ran action points in the Eberron game I ran over the winter, but it felt cheap. Like, we already have the brilliant Advantage/Disadvantage system, but I would like to see something like that as well. Also, I really need this world to move on past the 5-year mark of the last war. I want this world to grow like Faerun has. I want to know of the Draconic Prophecy, I want to know what is going on in the Mournland (mainly Lord of Blades, cuz that my dude too...lol)... I mean, I could go on and on...lol

I'm trying a pseudo action point system, but it's not the same. I am heavily considering stealing the 4e version and calling it a day.

I like the idea of Action points, and in this addition we have a couple mechanics that they could emulate. More so than inspiration giving advantage on a check, an Action point seems like it would fit into the Action Economy, so maybe the use of an action point could grant one of the following:
Action (Reaction) Point: During the course of combat spending an action point can be done as a Reaction to one of the following effects
Being targeted by an AOE Spell effect - [GET OUT OF DODGE] You may move up to your movement speed as needed to leave the Area of Effect for the spell.
Falling to 0 Hitpoints - [I Wanna Live!] You may spend an action point to give yourself 1 successful death saving throw.
Action (Bonus) Point: During the course of combat you may spend an action point as a bonus action to perform the following
[FRENZY]: When you take the Attack action before the end of your next turn you may add One additional attack to your total number of swings.
[DIG DEEP]: You may use a class feature again that recharges on a short rest after it has already been used. (i.e. A first level fighter has used his Second Wind, is desperately low on HP and thus Digs Deep, spends an Action Point and as a bonus action can use his Second Wind ability again without having taken a short rest)
Action (Story) Point: While not in combat you may spend an Action Point to sway the fates in your favor
[Heros Ex Machina] - When called upon to make a skill check you may spend an action point to change your die roll to a 10.
These are just a couple of ideas I came up with off the top of my head. Thoughts?
Bro, I love it so much. I think it's an amazing starting point for sure! It gives that high action feel.
I don't have anything to contribute for it yet, but maybe we could collectively come up with stuff like this for our games!

Thought of another one for our spell caster friends:
This would fall under the Action (Bonus) Point Category and thus would be used by a spell caster as a bonus action:
[Give it all you got!] - You may spend an action point to put everything into single spell, doing this allows you to bump the next spell you cast up one level, or if it's not a spell that can have it's level increased you may opt to double it's duration, range, or number of effective targets
Oh and thought of this one while I was writing that one up, it would be a Action (Reaction) Point usage:
In reaction to being surprised in the first round of combat - [It was Instinct!] you may spend an action point to 'act out of instinct' giving you the option to either gain a move action or standard action in the surprise round on your initiative.

Hey hey! Curious to see and hear if people have, already, started to use the Wayfinder for 5e? Anything standing out so far?
I heard Keith Baker is planning a sort of follow-up. What's on your wish list?
I know it will never happen, but I sort of want prestige classes to appear.
