I am in the process of making a character that has a Genasi for a spouse and one of the defining features of my character is that they always have a length of their spouse's hair wrapped around their arm. While in the process of writing this character story out I suddenly realized I might have overlooked something important: can a Genasi's hair even be cut? In addition to that what happens to the trimming when it is cut off? Does it disappear, turn into normal hair, somehow maintain its ethereal attributes, or something else entirely? It is a pretty important part my character's story so I would appreciate any advice that can be given on the subject. I also totally understand if there isn't any canonical lore about it.
I would guess that it depends on the genasi. It's pretty hard to cut a flame, for instance, but seaweed or "ordinary" hair should act more-or-less normally.

That will work out because I was planning on them being either an Air or a Water Genasi. Thank you for the help.
That's...fascinating. And potentially wonderful story content.
An air genasi's hair might drift away into smoke...
Or an earth genasi's hair might crumble into dust, or crystallize. Might make for an interesting bracelet.. valuable?
A water genasi's hair, honestly, would be fairly normal...just damp.
But a fire genasi would be the best...
"Hey, guys! Who wants to help me start this bonfire?!"
(fire genasi looks at the pile of sticks, snorts, then snips an ember of "hair" off with some scissors, and flicks it onto the logs, starting a smoldering fire.)
I imagine for Genasi that have more elemental "hair", they can choose how long they would like it i.e. making their flame smaller to imitate a buzz cut.

"There ya go."
