as i understand it now, their seems to be two conflicting meanings when the term 'season' is used. Their is the version that seems to only be in refrence to the a set of books and adventures that tie together, and the version of that term used to define the curent acepted rule set for the game(at least for AL).
Am I corect in saying that the curent season rules(season 8 as of this post) are in effect even if I were to be playing through an book that technically is part of seasons 1-7.
thanks. so how does this handle people creating a character for a previous season to amass gold then bringing it into a season 8 game. besides the honor thing. Is their some kind of system in place where your character is suppose to be uploaded to wizards. If that is true then It would mean that Wizards could clearly tell that if you upload a character sheet with a older date and suddenly start uploading it with a current date the player is probably up to something. Also, if that is the case then would any of the AL games Iv played in home groups not be valid to take to official sponsored events. at game shops or conventions?
All players are required to keep a log sheet of games they've played. On the log should be the DM's name and DCI number (if they have one), date, etc. Aside from that it's based on the honor system.

You can't create a character for a previous season to amass gold.
As the previous poster noted, ALL the season 8 rules regarding both the awarding of advancement check points, treasure points AND gold are applied to ALL AL games whether the content comes from season 8 or not. So you can't play content from a previous season to amass gold. Those previous season adventures do not award gold or magic items anymore .. they award unlocks for magic items.
However, if you have character that you played in previous seasons (before september 2018) you can play them in games from any season using the season 8 reward rules going forward. They have guidelines for converting the characters.
On the other hand, if you are asking, could you create a fake log sheet with the collusion of some friends who have DCI numbers you could use, and then say that they ran the games and then back date them to sometime last year to make it seem as if you played the games in previous years? Short answer is yes. Folks can cheat. The maintenance of the log sheets is up to the players and is based on the honour system. However, if you play regularly at one or more locations you will probably get caught eventually. The penalty? Likely folks won't let you play, since no one really likes to play with folks that cheat. At the very least the character is likely to get tossed out.
That's what I what I was leaning towards as being the correct answer. Just couldn't find a definite rule stating that as their duel use of the term 'season' throws me off. As for the forgery part-- I guess anyone could do that, just playing home-brew and doing whatever we feel like is much easier. It's not like their is anything to gain either as this is a co-op game, theirs no point to cheating.
Their doesn't appear to be any kind of system in place to prevent it thoe. Even if its a legal character, their is no way of knowing when the character was made of who were the other people in the group playing.
