The Duel Wielder Feat allows you to use two-weapon fighting even when the one-handed weapons are not light.
Two-weapon fighting says when you take the attack action with a light melee weapon you can use a bonus action to attack with a different light melee weapon. If these weapons have the thrown property, you can instead throw the weapon.
So basically, if you have the Duel Wielder Feat this means that you can throw 2 javelins in a single turn. At least this is how I am interpreting the RAW. Are there any rules that I might have missed or overlooked that wouldn't allow a character to be able to throw 2 weapons in a turn using this feature. I don't see any issues with it, but at the same time it seems kind of ridiculous to me.
Yeah mechanically, that's fair, but I think it would depend a lot on your DM. Remember that mechanics don't always transfer into role playing and the boundaries of the world. Even if it works mechanically your DM could we'll decide it's too ridiculous for a person to throw two javelins at once lol
Well in this case I am the DM and its something one of my players wants to do lol
I have zero issues with him being able to throw two javelins, mostly because his answer to every problem has been to throw a javelin at it, and so its kind of become a running joke. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking anything mechanically that wouldn't allow this.
The thing to consider here, I think, is that a player with an extra attack would be able to throw two javelins anyway... not that big a deal, I think. :)
I agree with everyone else. The other important thing is he is taking this feat with the sole purpose of performing that action so he gives up another feat or an ability bump. That is what makes it balanced and fair.
You can throw 2 daggers in a turn, 2 handaxes, 2 light hammers, and if you have duel wield, you can do the same with javelins, spears, tridents, nets, darts, or true improvised weapons.
My homerule is that 2-handed weapons can be wielded with a shield, versatile do full damage in one hand, and heavy weapons lose that property. Basically, I made it more OP.

I'm adding the feat to a Psionic so that he can use soul blade with a normal weapon attack in the other hand (as opposed to being unarmed) so I don't think it's far fetched to assume a double Javelin throw.

Combat > Other Activity on Your Turn: https://www.dndbeyond.com/compendium/rules/basic-rules/combat#ActionsinCombat You can also interact with one object or feature of the environment for free, during either your move or your action. For example, you could open a door during your move as you stride toward a foe, or you could draw your weapon as part of the same action you use to attack.
If you want to interact with a second object, you need to use your action. Some magic items and other special objects always require an action to use, as stated in their descriptions.
The Feat Duel Wielder gives the following benefits:
You gain a +1 bonus to AC while you are wielding a separate melee weapon in each hand. You can use two-weapon fighting even when the onehanded melee weapons you are wielding aren't light. You can draw or stow two one-handed weapons when you would normally be able to draw or stow only one.
This mean normally you can only "interact" with a single object on your turn for free, which means a fighter can't draw and throw 2 spears in a turn without the Duel Wielder feat.
It's sad I always liked the Concept of the Knife Thrower fighter and I'm sadden that it got nuked.
Yes, the Feat let's you draw and throw 2 weapons at a time. My problem is that it doesn't grow well past 4th lvl.
With the Feat you can draw and throw two weapons, but then you're unarmed... Which is bad.
A level 5 fighter with the Feat can draw and throw 2 weapons as an action, but can't use her bonus action to attack, because she has no weapons left and can't draw more.
With the Feat, it's possible to attack in melee and throw weapons while still getting the bonus action for attack, but is limited to 2 draws a round with the Feat.
In my opinion a 20th lvl fighter should be able to throw 5 daggers a round (4 from Attack action, plus 1 for Bonus Action if two-weapon fighting)... But RAW that's impossible.
Jeremy Crawford has answered the "throwing 2 javelins" question in Sage Advice. You can do it, but you can only draw one weapon at a time, unless you have the Dual Wielder feat.
So, when doing two weapon fighting, you can throw two light weapons. With the Dual Wielder feat, those weapons can be non-light weapons. With the Two-Weapon fighting style you get to add your Strength bonus to the bonus action's damage rolls. Oddly enough, you don't get a bonus for thrown weapons (except darts) from the Archery fighting style, since they are considered melee weapons, even if they are being thrown. I'd argue that you DO get the damage bonus from Dueling on the second attack, since they are melee weapons (not the first because you will have more than one weapon in your hand for the first throw).

Technically, as long as you have the daggers in your hand before the attack, you can throw both (using your Action and Bonus Action), and as a part of that action draw two more daggers and use two more attacks to throw the daggers. Remember, you can use your regular attack action to attack with a weapon in either hand. So, you'll have 4 throws (3 attacks and 1 bonus action), but since you already used your free object interaction you can't use your 4th attack since you won't have a weapon. Now, if you threw two weapons (1st attack + bonus action) and then drew two other weapons, you could use the rest of your actions to melee 3x (or melee once and then throw twice - or throw once, melee once, and throw once).

Me too, I dont see any issue. and does not semm ridiculous to me. one javelin with the main hand and the other with the off hand.

As a 20th level fighter you also have the option to draw two weapons, make three melee attacks, and then throw both
