My Drow Rogue (Scout) is at Lvl 6 now, and we have access to an incredible magic shop in the capital we're in. One of our players recommended I get a magic weapon and just stick with using that, but I'm not sure what I can actually get. I'm also upgrading my studded leather armor to Glamoured Studded Leather Armor (+1 to AC - hoping to boost that if I can afford to - and you can make it look like whatever you want).
Total Gold: 1647
Weapon proficiencies: simple, hand crossbows, longswords, rapiers, short swords
Dex attack bonus: +7
With those in mind, does anyone have recommendations on what kind of magic weapon I should get? We've fought an assortment of types of monsters, although our Hobgoblin and now Bard/Warlock have personal quests against undead things (they also both have weapons/abilities that give bonuses against those now). I'm also considering multiclassing into Ranger Shadowstalker later on once I get my Wisdom high enough (4-5 more lvls). I need the armor upgrade to keep up with the heavy hitters in the group but I'm not sure how much it will cost flat or with the additional boost I'm gonna try to get.
At 6th level you're starting to run into opponents who have resistance to non-magical damage. I'd get any magical weapon that will let you use your sneak attack bonus. Because your dexterity attack bonus is so high you might want a rapier since it let's you use your dexterity modifier attacks instead of your strength modifier.
It depends on what's available and how expensive it is. In this edition, purchasing magic is not the baseline, so it's hard to say what your DM will charge for magic. That said, a simple magic dagger or similar finesse weapon is ideal. Advantage on Stealth (Boots or Cloak of Elvenkind) as well as any "of Protection" item can be helpful too, but secondary to finding a magic weapon (half damage on a sneak attack is such a pain).
Some enemies might just be outright immune to non-magical weapons so getting a magic weapon should be a priority. If you can't get a magic weapon, then at least spend 100 gold to silver your existing weapon as per PHB. Also if you mostly use ranged weapons then by core rules you don't need magic ammunition. Any bolt fired from a magical crossbow counts as a magic weapon.
