So I have decided to play a Mystic in my DM's new adventure but there are still one or 2 things that we're not sure of. Any help or advice would be appreciated! (I have selected Order of the Awakened)
1) When using a discipline, what do we roll the attack against when facing an opponent? rolling against AC seems redundant as it is a mind attack? So would this go against a creature's intelligence?
2) As I understand it, using a Talent requires no attack roll? The opponent just makes an intelligence saving throw? (I have Mind thrust as my selected Talent)
3) in the Psionic Talent section it states that "you can never use your psychic focus on a talent" but in Psychic Assault, the focus reads, "While focused on this discipline, you gain a +2 bonus to damage rolls with psionic TALENTS that deal psychic damage" please could someone clarify this? Was the word talent misused in this instance and it is referring to the options within that specific discipline???
1) The disciplines usually require a saving throw (CON, INT...). Others, like Bestial form, is an attack roll. It varies based on the discipline and it is specified.
2) Yes mind thrust is just a INT saving throw. For other talents, like Energy beam, the saving throw is DEX.
3) Problably it is a error, I can't say for sure. The word "talent" is most likely misused, and it should be "you gain a +2 bonus to damage rolls with psionic disciplines".
In regards to 3, the rule Specific beats General applies here, and the Psychic Assault focus is the more specific one, so it does affect talents. This was confirmed on twitter by either Mike Mearls or Jeremy Crawford (I can't remember off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure is was JC).

"You can't use your psychic focus on a talent" means "you can't focus on a talent". You can still focus on a discipline that gives your talents a buff when you're focused on it.

The thing that confuses me is that it says "+2 to damage rolls with talents dealing psychic damage." Well theres only one talent that deals psychic damage (mind thrust). But the wording says "talentS". Any way it goes there's a rather important typo (either plural "talent" even though there's only one, or "talent" when it should be "discipline") thats causing confusion.

Hope this is helpful.

Or, it could be future proofing, in case they decide to add more talents (which may or may not include talents that deal psychic damage).
Also, good job with the thread necro.
