Fey related Barbarian could come in a variety of ways I guess the most likely that they are influenced by the primal powers of the Fey. It could bear some similarity to the Totem Warrior, would most probably be representative of the Rage of Faerie (the realm and the power). Nature (Animal, Plant, Weather) effects, Illusions, Charm and Fear effects. I could imagine a RAGING Fey Barbarian, projecting a fear effect. Possible 14th level effect could be some type of regeneration effect.
The Shadow Barbarian, I could envision as 'Sunspot', when they are raging, they are completely covered in shadows and their strength is enhanced. Possible ideas for later effects- Damage feedback (any damage they receive, part of it is also received by the sender), Monolithic Immunity to push back and pull effects- Ignores lightning lure or repulsing eldritch blasts, if someone wants to move you without your consent then they had best use teleportation powers. I'm thinking of lesser gravity wells and Darkforce ala 'Cloak'. Level 14 ability, a shadow type short range teleport either from shadow to shadow, or simply via your shadow into the shadowfell then back anywhere within a short range.
Those are justy a few crazy ideas, that could be fun- would obviously need to be power balanced and tested.
Another possibility: the Fey Path could offer Seelie, Unseelie and Shadow/Twilight Options. Seelie and Shadow/Twilight could be any alignment, Unseelie here could possibly be only open to any evil alignment.
Generally I think of Unseelie as amoral, rather than evil, and I don't ever want to see alignment restrictions in DnD, for anything, ever again, but the rest of the ideas I dig.
What about instead of immunity to forced movement, they can spend a reaction to teleport closer to the creature or effect that tried to move them, 5ft+distance of the forced movement. Then it can be a lower level effect, because it costs a valuable reaction, and it can scale with level, by increasing the base movement.
In genral, I like the idea of a shadow barbarian being a force that cannot be kept at bay, even magically, so I'd probably mix things like teleportation or phasing with resistance of some kind to magical interference.
I love the idea of the Fey Barb having a fear aura. Like Fey Pressence for Warlocks, but meaner. Only downside is, the barbarian kinda needs things to not run from him, so it would have to also have a way around the "rage ends if you don't attack something this round" thing.
What about a wild hunt ability at level 14? Like summon some Fey wolves or something?
Also, I'd love for a Fey Barbarian to feel Odin-influenced, though that might need another Path. Perhaps they should get a Path of The Wild Hunt. A benefit to using spears or polearms, a Fey/Shadow wolf summon, maybe even a spectral steed at high level that can fly? Some divination rituals flavored toward spectral ravens bringing you news of the worlds?
I seem to really want to mix Warlock and Barbarian concepts, I'm beginning to realize.
I agree with you about the Unseelie, I only suggested a possibility. In some game worlds maybe the Unseelie or the Seelie fell to Evil.
Wild Hunt sounds really cool, to be honest I would associate that more with Ranger or Fighter. But that would be Herne. Odin's Wild Hunt is one of Terror, Rage and Winds. With spectral wolves, hounds.
I like the idea of spectral Ravens gathering news, an homage to Hugin and Munin.
Your idea about reacting to forced movement is a good one, fits in with shadows. I reckon that the immunity to movement is more Blackhole and Dwarfstar like. (Star GOO or Star Archfey Warlock meets Barbarian).
The Fear effect is appropriate but maybe it could be channelled into controlling fear. So that the Raging Wild Hunter Barbarian can either terrify others or drain and hold the fear from others, challenging or drawing them into battle.
Not sure I agree about the difference between Wild Hunts, but I don't wanna get into a folk lore debate.
I do think the Wild Hunt pretty much only fits he Ranger, Druid, and Barbarian. I can't see any place there for Fighters, but again, not worth a debate.
Anyway, what if the Terror of The Wild Hunt feature immobilizes with terror, rather than the normal Frightened condition?
They could also get extra damage against Frightened Creatures, perhaps?
I also think there could stand to be more overlap between Ranger and Barbarian. They are the only two classes in the game I've always thought genuinely could be one class.
I understand about the fighter and I respect folklore and have had plenty of debates with Folklorists and Social Anphropologists, so things are cool.
I think you are bang on with the Terror immobilizing concept. Extra damage against frightened creatures is also sound.
Star Themed Barbarian could be of two primary types- Blazing Light and Voidal Darkness.
Blazing Light would probably rage and burn others, possibly any weapons they wield could do half their damage in Radiant, whereas the Voidal Darkness/ Dwarfstar could also lure people into them, like a powerful force of gravity and weapons possibly do Force damage.
(Those are just my immediate thoughts, so would have to check and compare with other Barbarian archetype features.)
(Sessrumnir- a wonderful hall, ruled by the beautiful lady).
I may also check out the old 4e Star Pact warlock flavor/abilities, and see if any can be brought forward for Barbarians, although I doubt most of it will translate across classes. The other way to look is to think about Lunar mythologies, and nocturnal stuff.
I like Blazing Light, though, and the blackhole idea.
I'm imagining the fear based Barbarian with the Ægishjálmr, or Helm of Awe, glowing on their forhead. I think the more Herne style Wild Hunt could be done well enough as a Totem Barbarian, so it's probably fine there, but the Wild Hunt as a thing of Terror...I like it. I wish there were more room in Barb subclasses, because I'd really like to be able to summon spectral hounds/wolves, as well as instill fear, but that is probably too much. Maybe as the level 14 ability?
Shadow barbarian should definitely be a venom-from-spiderman style symbiote- a parasite that makes the barbarian stronger but more sadistic and crazed when raging. Maybe even outright damaging you to do stupid amounts of damage.

Not sure that fits Shadow stuff in dnd, but I'd love to see something like that as a Great Old Ones/Far Realm related Path. A corrupted Path? Aberation Path!
it could work as a great old one related path, though I think it could work in DND, shadow can taint the soul- part of the 4e flavor for shadow as a power source was that you would send a little piece of yourself to live in the shadowfell, and so a part of your soul would be filled with a taint of darkness that gave you your powers- i view this in the same vein, an entity of darkness feeds on your emotions- but grants you amazing-if-brutal power.
What about creating a ritual to summon Spectral Hounds or Wolves- Summon the Wild? A ritual where the Wild Hunt is called and the Barbarian takes the place of the Master of the Hunt. That would make a cool level 14 ability.
I agree that that Venom style doesn't fit Shadow. But it certainly fits Great Old Ones/Far Realm path of Corrupted or Infected Shadow.
I would imagine an Outlander Background- Skald (Lore or Valor Bard) or Runemaster (Diviner/Abjurer/Illusionist/Enchanter) create the Ægishjálmr and tattoo it on the Barbarian. The Barbarian would have the Helm of Awe Fear effect, whereas the Skald or Runemaster would have it as a ritual which if performed daily for several months on a bearer of an Ægishjálmr tattoo grants them that fear effect. This could possibly be a Feat for other classes, but a feature of one particular Barbarian Archetype.
A rough idea the feat grants access to the UA Starter Spell, Cause Fear. It is can be cast once per long rest as a 1st level spell without spell slot (if the bearer has a properly enchanted tattoo Ægishjálmr, then they don't need Verbal or Somatic Components). The Feat also improves their Charisma by 1 to a max of 20. Or maybe once per short or long rest without the Charisma improvement. This rough feat could be very broken.

Some of the UA Feats grant +1 to one stat, one or more spells (1/long rest), proficiency/Expertise and another minor bonus.

You could always have the fear give the stunned so that it is immobilized with fear. At first I thought paralyzed but realized the automatic critical hits would be FAR too powerful for a class that's already swinging around 2h weapons with advantage and extra damage (and would make half-orcs even MORE ridiculous barbarians).

Not just 2H weapons with advantage and extra damage; 2H weapons with advantage, extra damage, and extra crit damage, not counting the extra extra crit damage from half-orc.

True. I tend to forget things at higher levels since that's usually where campaigns (or at least published adventures) end (9-12th levels)

Also, I would dig a Star themed Barbarian. Other than immunity to force movement, a la black hole/ dead star, what sort of thing would they do?
A large aura that inevitably pulls enemies closer to itself. Sort of like an AoE taunt. As a blackhole everything would be forced to stand next to the barbarian. Best tank in the world :D
Typically, a "Fey" styled character usually emphasizes three things...a "nature" or "elemental" theme, mobility or "teleporting", and beguiling charisma like "Fear" and "Charm" effects.
Barbarians provide an interesting transition into a Fey-theme...they are inherently tied to their emotions, or "rage".
Fey are fickle and mercurial creatures...they often bounce between one emotional extreme or another. It is VERY believable that if a barbarian encountered Fey for a brief or extended period of time, they would have likely acquired some of that behavior to use for their own "rages"...a euphoric state of primal vigor. Perhaps if they trigger the rage initially, they have a chance to cause "Fear".
I'd take it in the opposite direction, too...perhaps the barbarian would project a beguiling aura that "Charms" creatures in the viscinity, and they aren't aware why. Out of combat, perhaps this gives the barbarian an oppurtunity to shine in social situations, with advantage to persuade or deceive on Charmed creatures. In combat, maybe the targets in the aura are unable to move (similar to a Conquest paladins Fear-tanking, except here the targets are just mesmerized or in awe).
The balance could be that, the barbarian must choose between the "Fear" effect or the "Charm" effect, and using it out of combat burns a use of Rage...but in a social game where you know you won't be fighting anything in the foreseeable future, that's a use of Rage well spent.
But them you have enemies who can't be Charmed or Feared...so you have to give the barbarian something else to keep it interesting.
Perhaps while raging, the barbarian is able to used a bonus action to Misty Step...this gives an already fairly fast class even more mobility. Potential for fun mechanics, too...a barbarian can Misty Step into the air, possibly grappling a flying enemy. It also lends well to the Fear effect...enemies run in terror, and the flickering barbarian pursues, just like the Wild Hunt!
For a capstone, let's see...I hate to borrow from another class, but Oath of the Ancients paladins have a feature that let's them regain 10HP at the start of their turn, and that's a nifty feature symbolizing the regenerative and unyielding power of nature. The barbarian just keeps taking damage, blow after blow...and the flesh just sort of knits back together, like a healing factor. Only during raging, of course, but that makes a sturdy "tank" barbarian. In addition, the barbarian doesn't suffer the effects of old age, and cannot be aged magically.
Lore-wise, perhaps now the barbarian may live among the Fey, an ageless and graceful warrior.

What would you want to see from such paths?
