I lived quite happily and content in my village Draikenspike enjoying the company of my clan as is wont with nearly all of my race. My mother Clearnuunkiallin Aquent died when I was only 2 years of age. I have only vague but loving memories of her. My father Clearnuunkiallin Visney still lives to this day in Draikenspike. He is very kind and gentle, but fiercely proud of his skills and work as a fine jeweller. He still makes his weekly journeys to a small border town several leagues away to sell his wares. I followed him everywhere after my mother passed and he enjoyed having me underclaw. He taught me the ways of making fine jewellery in the hopes that I too would take up the trade. And so it was for 10 years. Then one day not long after my 12th birthday we travelled to the small Township of Pravin to sell father's goods as per usual. Unfortunately there was nothing usual about this day. Not long after we had set up our displays a large band of men on horseback thundered down the market square. They then proceeded to help themselves to all the finer goods on sale claiming that the local Lord Reten needed it to help protect the town. Everyone knew that he was just a lazy, greedy swine not fit for his station. This happened a second time when I was 14 and I made the silly mistake of fighting back. For my efforts I received several clubs to the head rendering me unconscious. I came to to find all my father's wares gone and our cart and stall burnt to the ground. As for my father, he was beaten and left for dead trying to protect me.....but survive he did. From that day on I spent less and less time with my father and more time with a retired old soldier known only as Grimlan. He lives alone in a hut not too far from Draikenspike, but where he came from nobody knows. He ended up training me in the ways of combat. Grimlan also spoke of the innocent weak and defenceless who he fought to protect and the sense of humble pride and duty he felt. These stories planted a seed within me which grew every day, pushing me to train harder so that one day I could help the defenceless. Once I reached the age of 17 I formed a pact with 2 of my closest friends, Durgar & Vorshan. The next time Lord Reten's men came to Pravin to 'claim' protection payment we would stop them, or die trying. Not long after that the day came. As there had been no resistance in the past only 5 men showed up. The minute they entered the market square we blocked their path and drew our short swords and daggers which we had secreted on ourselves. With wit, claw and sword we killed 2 who would not yield and sent the other 3 on their way. Since that day Reten and his men have left us in peace and my friends and I have been revered by our clan ever since. A few uneventful years passed until a Human Paladin by the name of Corvin Nightbane visited our village asking to speak with Durgar, Vorshan and myself. He said that whilst travelling through the township of Pravin he had heard of 3 Dragonborns who had stood up to the tyranny of Lord Reten. We all shared a meal and spoke well into the night. At the break of dawn Corvin awoke only me and said that he would like to train me as a Paladin in The Paragons of Clarity to defend the weak and mistreated. A Holy Order whose sole mission was to abolish the evil and wicked so that the good people of The Broken Region can prosper no matter what their race, creed or lot may be. I hastily agreed and have not been home since having travelled far and wide. So that is how I became a roaming Paladin fighting for what I believe in my heart to be right
A Lizardfolk Watchers Paladin named Thurklea who's a bit of a jerk, but won't hesitate to do the right thing. Her weapon of choice is snarkiness, and barring that, her enormous greatsword usually does the job. Though she could care less about weakling "scaleless," she's seen firsthand the threat that extraplanars can pose, and has devoted her life to stopping them.

Carley Simon, thanks for writing that song about me!
currently working on a paladin my character was just a normal villager helping to defend his village against an attacking band of invaders. the symbol he got from his mother started to glow and bolster his allies and comrades to turn the tide suddenly the townsfolk are calling him paladin. thats all i got for a backstory. mostly my character is a sceptic and not quick to believe hes some holy warrior.
Born in a large town near the arctic border, his father was a wood-elf carpenter and his mother was human from a family with a long mason history. From a young age, he learned both trades, but he seemed to be a natural in both. At the age of 30 he had built houses, a library and a place of worship.
But as the law was written, every male had to do their guard duty for 2 years. Not counting the 7-month training. In the first 2 months they are trained in all weapon types, but at the start of their 3month. They could choose their weapons. Haldir exceeded in speed and agile weapons, he chose the double bladed scimitar, the classic katana and the haladie. Time flew by, and he became a lieutenant in the guards.
He became friends with his group.
In his last month, they were sent out to take out a bandit camp in the hills. But when they arrived, they were instantly attacked.
Like they knew they were coming.
They fought hard and long, and in the end they won the fight. His best friend was mortally wounded and died in his arms. He then realized that one of the guards was missing, together with the bandit chief.
Bringing his dead friends home and making sure they got the appropriate rites and rituals for passing to the next world.
He went to one of the highest mountains to pray. Not to just one god, but to all of them.
Hoping to get a sign of one of the gods, a sign how to repent for the death of all his friends
and for not knowing about the traitor in their group
After a hunting party tracked them down and captured them, they were executed in the main yard of the town.
Haldir took the traitor's life himself. But this could not free him from the guilt he felt. He completed his 2 years as a loner, not connecting with anyone.
In the last 2 weeks, he had to guard a high elf delegation visiting the town. In the delegation was a beautiful high elf woman.
She was the daughter of the king and queen of the selune highelves.
Most of their time there they talked all night, she learned him about selune, and he decided to follow her form than on. When the delegation left, they invited him to come to the mountains when he finished his 2 years.
After his 2 years were over, he left for the mountains
he was treated as an equal. Soon, he and the elf princess fell in love.
While marriage was allowed outside the highelves
the rules said that only highelves could enter the palace, only in dire cases. This could be ignored
So the young couple met outside the palace.
In the small town, a romantic tavern in the valley or at the lake.
One night they would meet in the moon light by the lake, but she and her guards were attacked by dark-elves who worked for a vampire necromancer. Hunting for high-elves.
He heard her scream, and he ran to the direction of the scream. Weapon drawn, he saw the dark-elves running in the shadows of the black shadows of the mountains.
He found her mortally wounded, her blood somehow drained. She put her moonstone rings on his left and right ring fingers, telling him she was his only love. Then she died. He stood up and screamed with his arms held high.
The moonlight fell onto the rings, and he could see runic signs in blue light in front of him appearing out of thin air. “Urzu kenaz hagalaz nauthiz perthro algiz tiewaz*”
He could read the symbols and knew the words they meant, but what was the meaning of it all? Bringing her body to the high elf palace, there was a full staff awaiting him. Somehow they knew what happened. Later, he learned that one of the guards had a falcon familiar who was sent to warn them. They took her body from him and thanked him for bringing her. But the burials are for highelves only. He was sent to the queen's chambers, where the queen immediately asked him what he had seen.
After he told her about the symbols, she gabbed some rune - engraved stones and put them on a table with crystals and round shapes. Then grabbed an old book and started reading.
Then another and scroll's too. She called for her servant and sent her to call for the circle to meet.
When they arrived, they stood around the table and discussed for almost 3 days. Then one of them called Haldir to the table. The elderly woman waved over the stones and one by one the stones started to glow, then words emerged from them.
Inguz(emotional healing, balance)
urzu(strength.willpower endurance)
kenaz(will, light within. Guidance)
hagalaz(obstacles, challenges tests)
berkana(healing, rebirth, renewal)
nauthiz( persistence, determination resilience)
perthro(fate, destiny)
algiz(protection, defense)
tiewaz(justice, discipline, integrity)
reading the words, the vaguely remembered something a friend told him during a night of guard
duty. The friend dreamed of becoming a paladin for a god that Haldir forgot the name of. But he did remember the words of calling that gods use to summon someone to become a paladin
those words were in the runes, but even more. He said to the elderly woman. I understand that these words are a summoning to become a paladin, but what does Inguz berkana have to do with it?
It means that by becoming a paladin, your pain of losing the princess will heal you rebirth you, it might even will renewal your heart for another love. Now listen!
You are summoned by selune to become her paladin. Do you accept?
Haldir walked to the balcony where the moonlight was shining, took a deep breath and said:
“Selune! Lady of silver, moon maiden,, I kneel in your light. The loss of my love opened the path to become your paladin. I here by swear that from now on I will be your sword of mercy, your voice in the dark and your word in flesh. Guide me to your path, cleanse me from feelings of vengeance and purify my thoughts.
The moon began to burn brighter, and a cold wind blew snow from the mountain peaks. Covering Haldir in a layer of blue, gleaming crystals.
Blue light emerged from behind him, and it seems selune herself stood behind him.
The others in the room sat on one knee, even the queen and the just arrived king bowed down. Then the light dimmed and Haldir stepped back into the room.
Then he fainted, exhausted from the intense moment. When he woke up, the sun was shining through a gap in the curtains. He was in a luxurious bed in a silver and blue ornate room.
He was dressed in a simple shirt and shorts.
When he opened the curtains, he was about 8 stories above the palace Courtyard.
Two hooded female servants entered the room, followed by 3 armored males.
The two women carried clothing, boots and a fur armor hooded cloak
it was white with a blueish glow, black and blue details.
Silvery metal parts ornate the clothes
The men all carried Cherry wooden arms cases.
After he was dressed, the men opened the cases.
A double bladed scimitar, a Katana and two haladie's from exquisite quality were in them.
A big man entered the room and introduced himself as balaven the great.
Court artificer and blacksmith.
I made these weapons based on your old ones.
But with lighter and stronger tungsten and high carbon alloys.
Then quenched in ice.
Then the blades are coated with molten moon stone, then sharpened to perfection.
Silver colored steel had an iridescent blue glow more intense than his cloak tho
Haldir picked up the Katana and draws it from its sheathe, some basic swings and parries go without struggle.
But when he tries his signature double strike block strike, he almost trips over
He tries again.
And he falls over.
Frustrated he grabs the haladie's and even with those he can't do any of his more advanced attacks the big man laughs and pats him on the shoulder.
The forgot to tell you?
Tell me what? Haldir asks when you become a paladin, you lose all the advances skills you have. Like dropping to level 1 basically.
You are reborn in selune's light. To start over, the core skills you have will return, but you are freed from the blood of those skills.
Then more servants entered the room with a backpack, mason and carpenter tools. The artificer gave him a gemologist tool kit as a personal gift.
He said within selune's blessings is the gemologist skills, these tools will help you with that.
And this pickaxe can be used to mine gems.
When he was fully geared up.
He was led to the throne room and the king and queen sent him out with a blessing.
“You are now a paladin of selune.
Hone your skills, learn the spells, tell selune's word and be her sword and her book. Carry her mercy, but wield her wraith.
Go now, paladin, your journey has started.
He left with a group of guards to check the mountains. But the caves were abandoned. Only a huge ritual ground and a sacrifice was found. One of the guards could read the markings. It became clear that they had revived a powerful vampire lord and its minions.
Knowing he would not be able to defeat the necromancer, let alone the vampire lord.
He headed to the large town nearby.
The town was torn by a great snowstorm and needed a lot of work. He spoke with the jarl who was glad to accept his help. Rebuilding the town went at a good pace. And soon people were settling in the town a half-orc blacksmith came to him asking for help to build her workshop. He helped out and as soon as the workshop was open for business she improved the inner lining of his hide armor with scales of an ice lizard, Lighter and more flexible than other types of this class of armor, perfected for swift movement, but still can take a beating.
But during talks by the fire, they both talked about how restless they were. They knew they had a greater goal in life.
When the jarl died, his son took over and instantly banned out all gods, magic and mystic weapons from the town. The people of the town had 2 choices. Leave or resign their faith, give up magic and destroy mythic weapons.
Haldir sold his house and went to say goodbye to the half-orc. But she also was packing up.
He did not know why, but they headed out together and see what life would bring them.
I have two possible characters ready (a human variant paladin and an autognome circle of stars druid) for a lev3 4.5 hour one shot tomorrow.
The one I think I'll use is a human variant polearm master (carries a glaive as well as javelins in a quiver on his back) True Neutral Paladin with Oath of vengeance. He follows a Neutral god of travel and is and all about wiping out slavers. He'll be happy to take out some road bandits or pirates...since they too restrict people's freedom and right to travel.
If I show up and it's a heavy melee party or they don't have a cleric or druid, I'll use the druid instead.
