Yeah you can play a Paladin with 8 STR or 8 CHA you just can't multiclass.
And with 8 Charisma you become terrible at magic.

This isn't actually a signature, just something I copy and paste onto the bottom of all my posts. Or is it? Yep, it is. Or is it..? I’m a hobbit, and the master cranial imploder of the "Oops, I Accidently Destroyed Someone's Brain" cult. Extended sig. I'm actually in Limbo, it says I'm in Mechanus because that's where I get my WiFi from. Please don't tell the modrons, they're still angry from the 'Spawning Stone' fiasco. No connection to Dragonslayer8 other than knowing them in real life.

Not a big deal when your spell slots are used for smiting 99% of the time lol.
True. But what about the class features, like auras?

Even if they are the most powerful class, I'm not going to play one until someone makes a stealthy, Dexterity-based antipalidan class.
So, by this, you are trying to tell me you are a Paladin-hater ??????
@Dragonslayer 9
Dude.
Nothing is limiting you from playing a dex based paladin. You have proficiency in all weapons and devine smite can work with finesse.
I realize now that you can. It’s just that there so often considered Strength-based. Still, I would prefer playing a shadowy Antipaladin than a holy Paladin.
Paladins don’t have to be holy at all. Oaths like vengeance or conquest could be argued to work better as shadowy, I’d think. Not saying they have to be, just they easily can be.
And I’ve been playing a halfling dexadin for a while now. Dumped str. Super fun. And since I’m small, my find steed is medium, and I can reasonably take it into dungeons.

Well if you do decide to play with 8 CHA I am assuming you need the stats somewhere else for some other important reason, hopefully that should make up for the aura, if not you just have to roll normal saving throws like the other classes lol.

Yes, but the paladins features are most definitely holy. Smite deals radiant damage, with extra damage to fiends and undead, and the aura’s seem to be more good than evil, in most cases.

There's nothing inherently "good" about auras and even with Cha 8 you still get a +1 to all saves so it's still not bad.
I have optional class features in the notes that circumvent this over-goodery.
Ooh, I can't wait for that!

They're protective. Protective usually means good.
*sigh* "Good" as the opposite of "Evil", not "good" as the opposite of "bad". Did you really not get that from the context? Or are you seriously saying that evil can't be protective? :D

For a probably most games, paladins are some of the most powerful classes combat-wise seeing that most games don't make it much past level 11. However, if we talk tier 3 and 4 games, that is when wizard outshines everything else by having options to become ridiculously overpowered while a paladin's martial side holds it back. A wizard can make a trapped and guarded permanent fortress and have a group of skeletons that have been buffed to the point of being medieval spec ops forces (better armour + magic weapon + training from various sources). A necromancer wizard can also do the simulacrum casts simulacrum thing in order to make it easier for their homunculus (Create Homunculus) to get to infinite hp (they gain max hp at the expense of yours but necromancers can't lose their max hp) or make and army of magen with Create Magen for the same reason. Sorry to say but a paladin can't defend well against that. One fancy aura doesn't beat WotC's "balancing".
I’ve coined the term “Paladin Syndrome” in my head to describe classes which I think have a similar power situation to it, where a solid 2/3 of the time you’re unstoppable, but that 1/3 you’re not doing well. Effectively you’re balanced by being inconsistent.
I’ve seen fights in which Paladins destroy but then proceed to just do terribly after a few
Most of this is due to the fact that Paladins are a NOVA class, they destroy one fight but without a rest they just suffer through the rest
They have bad mobility. At least if a fighter really needs mobility they can action surge dash, and other martial/half casters have a significantly better option. I remember a fight vividly of a paladin just getting out-maneuvered by the rest of the high mobility party. Find steed helps but the preparation of 10 min to cast it is hard to consistently execute
What I think they’re possibly the best (with exception to fighter) in is the simple glorious technique known as B O N K with the power of smite. The smite spells (especially Wrathful and Thunderous Smite) are great ways to bonk while expanding gameplay options
And with 8 Charisma you become terrible at magic.

Right. The Notes is a useless bunch of homebrew junk that has very few Paladins as I honestly don't know what to do with them.
Paladins are weird. That's my vote.
