I wasn't keeping up with the UA releases while they were in play test periods, but does the UA Paladin seem really awful to anyone else? My biggest gripe is around divine smite functioning as a spell now, meaning you lose all your bonus action potential, as well as any multi-class potential with Barbarian. You also have no way to stack multiple smites in a row on a turn, and by turning your core class feature into a spell on a half caster, in mid - higher level play any enemies that have limited magic immunity (looking at the rakshasa) just completely own you. What am I missing here that is the "welcome changes" that they are claiming everyone wanted?

I'd suggest taking a spin through the UA forums. There are a number of threads that get into this topic.
