Hello, i want to share my Swashbuckler Lv15/Sorcerer Lv5 5e Build. stats will be buypoints. for main purposes and roleplay im going in a radical build path, just bare with me. why Half Orc, well since im getting 5 lvls of sorcerer it means i will have low hit points and will be getting Relentless endurance to survive and with the Sorcerer (shadow magic ) i get Strenght of the grave to hav a second chanse to survive plus the spells of sorcerer to make sure i have escape spells of some sorts.
at the moment im not thinking on feats and more about applying ability points.
but if you can help me make this improve this build with feats im open to the idea.
Race. Half-Orc -Ability Score Str +2 Con +1 -Darkvision. 60 feet -Relentless Endurance -Savage Attack This are the Traits im looking forward with this race since i want to roleplay as well with the Half-orc.
Class. Rouge Swashbuckler My DM is letting me use a Longswords (as 2 Katars) for role play purposes.
Saving Throws Dex/Int Skill 4 i choose stealth, sleight of hands, investigation, perception
Background not sure at the moment since i will role play that as well.
Sorcerer Profiencies choose 2, going for Arcana and Persuasion.
Lv 1 - Spellcsting, Sorcerous Origin (shadow magic) - Eyes of the dark, Strenght of the grave. Lv 2 -Font Of Magic Lv 3 Eyes of the dark ( darkness ) -Metamagic Lv 4 -Ability Score Lv 5 ----------------
At Lvl 5 Sorcerer you have 5 cantrips 3 Lv 1 Spells 2 Lv 2 Spells 1 Lv 3 Spell total of 6 spells
Did you mean shortswords instead of longswords on your substitution for Katars? The reason why I ask is because Katars are typically categorized as knives not swords, plus not only would you not be able to attack with the off hand one as a bonus action, since it isn't light, but longswords also don't have the Finesse property, so no triggering sneak attack.
Biggest question I have is why go with 5 lvls of Sorcerer instead of just going straight 20 lvls of Arcane Trickster?
As said, a longsword is not a finesse weapon. So unless your DM would permit Sneak Attack with that you may need a pair of rapiers. Or if you don't want to get the dual wielder feat, get two shortswords.
Remember however that Booming Blade isn't the attack action so you can't utilize two weapon fighting.
Since you are able to access multiple source books anyways, consider picking up Green-Flame Blade instead of Poison Spray.
Also think about changing Acid Splash to a utility spell you like.
Really late to the party here but there’s a pretty nice trick you can pull off with this multiclass that no one has mentioned.
The rogue’s sneak attack is limited to “Once per turn” and not “Once per round”. This means that if you make an attack that’s not on your turn and you meet the other sneak attack requirements, you can roll the sneak attack damage dice even if you’d already made a sneak attack on an earlier turn in the round.
As much as this might sound broken or like a tactic that would make rogues “OP” you’re eating up your reaction and are a squish melee character meaning you won’t be able to dodge half the damage of incoming attacks. It essentially makes you even more of a glass cannon archetype because you’ll die twice as fast but so will your enemies.
Your 5 level’s in sorcerer give you two unique ways to do this, both with their own pros and cons.
The first way is with cantrips and metamagic. You can ready an attack as an action and quicken green flame blade or booming blade as a bonus action. On your turn you’ll attack and do sneak attack damage with the attack made during the cantrip, and on another turn your readied attack will go off using your reaction and dealing another load of sneak attack damage. The downside here is the cantrip attacks need to be melee and you need to burn sorcery points to quicken your spell every round. However Thisbe combo works with very few sorcerer levels and no setup time required.
The other way is with the haste spell. You simply use your regular action to ready an attack you’re special haste action to make a single attack. The downside here is that you need 5 sorcerer levels to do this and an action spent casting it. This greatly delays your rogue levels or means you can’t do that do this till late in the game. However the upsides here are that you can make ranged attacks instead because there’s no melee requirement like with the cantrips, you get the extra AC from haste which is especially needed because again you can’t use your right reaction to reduce damage, and lastly you get to keep your bonus action free which is especially useful to rogues because of all the extra ways they’d get to use bonus actions.
This might not be something you want to do if your dm doesnt ‘metagame’ at all or doesn’t so too much. When you start doing this the dm should have the monsters focus on hurting ou a bit more. If he doesn’t attack you then the downside of this strategy (you beinng easier to kill) doesn’t matter and you’re character starts to outshine everyone’s else which can kill the fun. On the flip side The monsters wouldn’t know you’re any more vulnerable than normal and if you’re DM suddenly has everything solo target you then you’ll be dead in a few rounds.
So while this may not be something you end up regularly doing, it’s a really cool and interesting tool to have up your sleeve for the next time you guys need to kill the necromancer in this round, or else he’ll summon orcus or a dracolitch.
I'm doing a somewhat similar build with a rogue / sorcerer / bard Tabaxi. If you're like me and hope to run in, do damage with booming blade+swords, then dash out I encourage you to consider adding thunder wave or similar spell as an emergency exit strategy in case you get cornered. Other than that I maybe long stride? I haven't actually play tested my theories here but I'm worried that the Swashbuckler free disengage might not be all that helpful unless you can get far enough away from them where you're out of their normal movement range. I think all the rest looks good. Good luck!
Great idea, Heliosonic. I've built a template as a character building guide for a high elf multi-classed swashbuckler rogue/ bladesong wizard. At level 6 wizard, I'll be able to do an extra attack where I can use a cantrip, instead of a regular attack. That means that I can double up on green-flame blade at this point. To add the cherry on top, I can attune to illusionists' bracers to get in a third green-flame blade melee spell attack on my bonus action. Unless, I wanted to create greater distance between me and my enemies, in which case I would use the dash action for my bonus action as a swashbuckler rogue with any movement that I have left.
You could also look at picking up Martial Adept. It would give you access to riposte or brace, which would allow you an extra sneak attack once per short rest.

IMHO, Earthdawn is still the best fantasy realm, Shadowrun is the best Sci-Fi realm, and Dark Sun is the best D&D realm.

Being a level 6 bladesinger won't increase your gfb or bb casts per round in any way. Your max will be 1 per attack action (Haste theoretically works, but many DMs will rule that it doesn't; fighter 2 can provide an action no-one will argue with) plus, if you have metamagic or those bracers, 1 as a bonus action. What bladesinger 6 does is add an additional stab to your gfb/bb.
Actually, I have a DM that allows use of GFB as the start of a combo. According to his ruling, GFB is an exception because it utilizes a melee strike. Also, the extra attack class feature states that you can exchange a normal attack for a cantrip. I'll ask any other future DMs if I can do this, whose campaigns I might be a part of. This way I can prevent my character build selections from becoming obsolete. I realize some things are a matter of consensus outside the clearly stated rules. Thank you for your advice.

Update: This was my favorite character I've played so far. The campaign ended at level 6 at which point I was Rouge Swashbuckler 3, Hexblade Warlock 2, Bard 1 and my GM gifted me a revanent double bladed scimitar as my signature weapon. Scimitar + Sneak attack + Hex + Hexblades Curse made my damage on par with the barbarian. I was also the face and the sneak of the party so I really felt like I could do it all. If anything I would say that I had too many bells and whistles to consider on each of my turns.
