Think you are seriously undervaluingVersatile Trickster. It isn't an awesome feature but it certainly isn't as bad as you made it. Yes, it has a bad action economy if you get into combat unexpectedly, like if you are surprised. However, most of the time you know combat is about to happen well before you roll initiative, often getting a chance to prepare for it before it start. Then Versatile Trickster becomes much more useful because of the Mage Hand cantrip.
Mage hand has a instantaneous casting time, a duration of a minute and require no concentration. Which means as long as you get a second or two before the fight start you have plenty of time to cast it and then for six turns you are guaranteed a sneak attack because the first thing you do each turn is use the mage hand to perform the help action before attacking and getting an automatic sneak attack.
It is even better for pure Arcane Tricksters since they won't have spend a spell slot on a familiar (as they can't cast it as a ritual) and they are most likely using a rapier instead of dual wielding as they need a hand free for components.
So I'd say it should be at least purple as it is really only when you can't prepare for a fight it suffers from a bad action economy and for pure AT it should probably be black.
I apologize but I have to disagree with the green for the assassin's skills Infiltration Expert, and Imposter. I've actually had a number of combat uses with it. I won't deny that it was usually RP within the combat, but it was still useful in combat none the less. They are extremely good skills in my experience and I love the archetype all the more for it! Other than that slight trip, it's a really good guide. I'll definitely show people who ask me questions about the class to this guide!
I would like to point out that crossbow expert is not as effective as you make it out to be. The starting range weapon is a shortbow so only not having disadvantage within 5 ft would apply unless you buy a crossbow.
Mobile feat would help with the speed increasing it by 10. Dual Wielder would help with a +1 to AC but only under certain conditions. Squat Nimbleness would do both. You can use the +1 to add to dexterity, and you gain +5 feet of movement, putting you on par with a standard 30 feet normal movement.
I could really use som advice on this Thief character I am making.
I plan on making a rogue character who later becomes the thief archtype.
So faar I am trying out the idea of a more classic rogue type, and I will list below so faar what skills and stats I have chosen to take or plan to take.
The current race I have is a custom one, so do mind I have acrobatics from it plus 2+ dex and 1 + to cha currently.
Three choices of stats :
10 str, 15 (17 in total after +2 racial), 14 con, 10 int, 10 wis, 13 cha (14 in total after +1 racial)
10 14 (16 in total after +2 racial), 14 con, 12 int, 12 wis, 11 cha (12 in total after +1 racial)
10 15(17 in totalt after + 2 racial), 14 con, 10 int, 12 wis, 11 cha (12 in total after + 1 racial)
I plan to take the following skills: Acrobatics (racial), deception and stealth (Bagground), sleight of hand, perception, atheltics, investigation,
Expertise: Stealth and Perception, level 6: Sleight of hand and thieves tools.
I am unsure whenever to duel wield or use a single weapon yet, maybe skirmish switching between melee and ranged.
I have chosen the Thief so faar to be more versatile and that I become able to do alot of funny things with fast hands in combat.
I like the idea of fast drawing knives and what not with a free hand and throw em at foes for sneak attack and what not.
My plan is to take the Squat Nimbleness feat to increase my dex by 1, and get expertise in atheltics to climb and do more of those rogue things.
I plan on takeing mobile afterwards.
I am playing a goblin like race, who is sort of a mix of halfling and goblin in a way.
Another idea is to going swashbuckler, but I have already played a straight up very fighty class last time played, so I wanna try something abit more "strange". Yet I am lured by idea of the swashbuckler too. - And they are great with two weapons.
