I'm playing a Rogue (Inquisitive) using the 2024 rules, and I like the idea of Cunning Strikes, but of course none exist for non-updated 2014 subclasses. I read one such option in an attempt to update the Inquisitive for 2024. I don't wish to use that version for a few reasons, but I did like the idea of a Cunning Strike, and I'm trying to think of an interesting idea for a Cunning Strike option to give an Inquisitive Rogue (which doesn't duplicate any existing ones). This is what I came up with, but I'm not sure how balanced it is or how to tweak it.
Exploit Weakness (Cost: 2d6). You know how to attack a foe’s weakness in order to make them vulnerable for a powerful follow-up attack. The creature must make a Dexterity saving throw, and on a failed save, they have Vulnerability to the next attack which deals Piercing, Bludgeoning, or Slashing damage before the end of your next turn. If the creature has resistance to those damage types, the vulnerability and resistance cancel each other out for that single attack. This Cunning Strike option has no effect on a creature which is completely immune to the type of damage dealt.
This Cunning Strike is similar to Trip in that it is reasonably likely to offer a benefit to a different party member than the Rogue.
I initially wrote down Rogue level 5 because that's when the Rogue first gets Cunning Strike, but I suppose that technically, I should put it at least at level 9 to match the level where a subclass normally acquires features. And I suppose that technically, it should be the only feature the subclass gets at level 9.
Only thing I see that you may want to consider is that gaining vulnerability to physical damage types should probably be resisted with a constitution save rather than dexterity. Strength of body to resist the effect seems more appropriate.

That makes sense, I was thinking of the victim making a dexterity save to sort of twist out of the way of the blow which puts them in an "off-balance" position where they're more vulnerable, but CON could work too.
