So, I've been kicking around a build that's a battlefield healer. You go with Variant Human for race to get the Healer Feat and +1s in Dexterity and Constitution. Take any background that gets you proficiency with the herbalism kit, and at third level, Take the Thief archetype.
You spend all of your downtime making healing potions to use in combat. After fourth level take at least two levels in fighter for Action Surge, Medium Armor, and other goodies. Take the Protection Fighting Style. After level 6, it's up to you. The point of this build is to exploit the Thief's fast Hands ability to run around and heal people. Thoughts? Questions? Is this a good build, or not?

I like it. It seems like it could be fun. And still seems more useful than Monks can be, if you do something similar but as a monk.
Though it'd be interesting to see how you RP the healing... are you handing potions and retreating, or are you "essentially" chloroforming your teammates pouring healing potions down their throat from behind without them noticing you, while whispering in their ears "shhh shhh you'll feel better, you'll thank me later"
Yeah, I was thinking about it where they're this paranoid weirdo that's just ultra-attached to the party, loves them, and would never, ever, ever, let them die in any way. I'm just picturing this human running around screaming "We're all too young to die!!!" and healing them. Would have some great synergy with the tank of the party, as he just attacks again and again, gets whittled down to low life, and then a human comes hurtling out of nowhere, Action Surges with Healer's Kit and Potions, and suddenly the tank has a pretty great amount of hp. (Bad news, you'll probably be a target for attacks if the DM gets frustrated with these tactics

I'd like to talk to a DM about maybe taking away the "can only use this feature on one creature per short or long rest" cause you'd be able to heal your party more with the healers kit instead of just always force feeding them potions every time. Plus I think adding in a few levels into artificer to get alchemists and using your spell slots to make better healing potions.

Using Point Buy your scores look like this:
Strength, 10(+0) Dexterity 16(+3) Consitution 16(+3) Intelligence 8(-1) Wisdom 13(+1) Charisma 10(+0).
