In 2 weeks we start our first session and I read through most of the books given to me by our DM (PHB, XGtE, WGtE & VGtM).
While having an understanding of what I want to play, I still would like some advice for planning out my class for the future. As a concept I would like to play a Changeling, who can support the group both in social interactions as well as leading the flow of battle like a conductor does with the orchestra. I was especially intrigued by the Roguish Archetype "Mastermind" and especially the first 2 abilities "Master of Intrigue" (I said I was intrigued) and "Master of Tactics", but am unsure how far further I would take the class and in which steps. As a conductor the logical step would be the Bard, but I am unsure which College to pick. The College of Glamour seems appealing for the "Mantle of Inspiration" and "Mantle of Majesty" abilities, but here again I am uncertain how far to take it. I would love any kind of advice you could give me, may it be on the classes I considered so far as well as others, may them be as an alternative or as a 3rd class to expand into.
College of Glamour can sometimes be very impressive, but there are a lot of monsters resistant or immune to charm effects, so you might want to check with your DM about the kind of campaign you're in before committing to that.
A subclass that has great synergy in abilities and lore: Battlemaster Fighter would be right up your alley since you will already have a min. DEX of 14 for the Rogue. All weapon proficiencies, Action Surge, and a variety of maneuvers will help you really feel like an expert of the battlefield. Also look up "Commander's Strike." If you take this route, get at least 4 levels for the ASI. Another thematic option is the Samurai, but only if you want to commit most of your levels to Fighter rather than Rogue and you're in a campaign where a Changeling noble would make sense.
However, as you seem committed to picking a Changeling, Warlock and Paladin perhaps fit better with that high Charisma. The former if you want to stay away from the frontlines and spam your special abilities (I recommend Misty Visions at least for spammable Silent Image) and if you're okay with being a bit on the squishy side. The latter if you prefer to be in the thick of combat yourself while simultaneously boosting the saves of your allies and getting off the occasional sneak attack+critical+smite.
Glamour seems mostly attractive for the ability to reposition allies with Inspiration and spamming the Command spell to do the same with Majesty for 1 minute as well as the Expertise in more skills. Maybe I limit it to a 4 level dip to gain the ASI. Warlock also was on my list, but I couldn't decide, which patron would support the playstyle best. Hexblade...maybe...because I can wield my weapon with Charisma and get some proficiencies....maybe my Patron is a sentient score of music, that actually compells me to conduct the flow of battle...but whicht pact to take...maybe Chain so my familiar can use the Help action (is that possible?) instead of my attack for 2 Help actions in 1 turn...as well as recon.
The thing with the Command spell is that the range isn't that great and once you lose concentration, then you don't get that back before a rest. I agree that repositioning allies is a good ability as well. Don't get me wrong, Glamour Bard has some good stuff, it's just that without armor or spells that boost AC, you're still going to be pretty vulnerable. At the very least, I recommend taking Magic Initiate: Wizard so that you get Mage Armor if you go this route. Combining Mage Armor with Mirror Image fairly effective.
RE: Warlock pacts and patrons, that depends partly on what backstory you want for your character and whether you want to focus on melee or ranged attacks. This is pretty important b/c some patrons are definitely better than others for different roles.
