Hi! I'm attempting to create an archetype for the rogue based around forgery--mostly, I was inspired by Slate from T. Kingfisher/Ursula Vernon's The Clockwork Boys (a story about, basically, a wizard, two rogues and a paladin). However, beyond simply being proficient with calligrapher's supplies, I don't really know how best, mechanically, to go about this. Does anyone have suggestions for perks? I think maybe the ability to memorize signatures or forge signet designs might be good, but I don't know where to include them level-wise, and that's generally not super compelling by themselves.
That really seems too niche and limited to be an archetype. I'd recommend just taking, perhaps, the Mastermind subclass and arrange to have those calligrapher's tools.
If you ask nicely, your DM might just allow you to get proficiency in calligrapher's tools as part of the Assassin subclass to replace or in addition to their 9th level or 13th level abilities. It seems especially appropriate for the 13th level "Impostor" skill set.

Just be a charlatan background for proficiency in forgery kit.
