I just started adventures league and was wondering for my cleric how do I get regular full plate. I don't get enough gold from level ups to buy something that expensive. The only other options is just to buy the +1 version with treasure points. Is their a way to get regular full plate?
They have made it somewhat difficult to obtain full plate (1500gp) and half-plate(750gp) due to the significant constraints on gold earned. The "trick" is that treasure points can be turned in for 50gp each. In tier 1 you earn 300gp (75gp x 4), each level of tier 2 is 150gp, you also earned 16 TP in tier 1 and 8 tp/level in tier 2. By level 6 you will have earned 450gp and 24TP - the 24 TP can be traded in for 1200 gold giving a total of 1650 which is sufficient to purchase full plate armor. So if you forego other magic items and other expenses you should be able to buy full plate by level 6. The magical versions of these cost 24 tier 3 treasure points and are available in tier 3 starting at level 11 (the evergreen magical versions will give a +1 AC boost over the non-magical counterparts but require using a higher tier of treasure points to purchase).
However, level 6 isn't that bad for full plate armor if that is the one thing you really want for the character.
P.S. It looks like season 9 is going to totally change all of this ... so it will be interesting to see how it all turns out.
deleted my prior two responses. short answer is the rules are specifically designed so you can't get Plate mail of any kind at tier 1. With the caveat below, tier 1 adventures don't reward plate and you can't get enough gold to buy it. Writer's can't award the magical plate or half-plate until tier 3 and they can't reward any of the XGE armor above chain mail at all (so you'll never see something like Smoldering Plate in an AL (at least with the current rules)).
There are a couple exceptions to that though from legacy seasons. I did find one Tier 1 Epic that awards adamantine plate, and you'll find a tier 2 adventure that awards mithral plate as well as another tier 2 that awards adamantine.
Ahhhhh... the funny side of being a thief....... IYKWIM :-) :-) :-)
unfortunately its not much of a solution as you can steal mundane plate mail, but it falls apart at the end of the session. And to be rule-compliant, you won't be finding any magical plate at low tiers.
DMG 9.1: Mundane equipment can be used (but not sold) by the characters until the end of the session but is lost at the end of the session.
Then tell me, what is the purpose of the BLACKMARKET there ????
In AL, there isn't one that provides any benefit. It's AL and I get why the rule is there although not sure if I totally agree with it (what's the point of having a paladin if he can't wear plate until he's beyond the tier of (almost always) every table in the store?...chain-wearing paladin is just silly).
Following the rules, pretty much every party I've played with or DM'd for, they're way OP for their applicable tiers even when I ramp things up to Deadly. For those tier 1-2 players that insist their character has plate, instead of arguing I just let them know its not really AL-compliant and then add 3 or 4 to my die roles when mobs attack them.

The short answer in season 8 it is difficult :)
