I am working on this, on and off, as a vacation from other projects. It is inspired by DnD and also by fantasy books like Dragonlance and LOTR, lastly by equipment inventories from all the fantasy hack 'n' slash or rpg I have played, over the last 30 years. I will add the other equipment later, then paint it. Not in any hurry, I am just enjoying making it, when I get a moment to do something with it. I am leaving the shield, amulet etc. blank so I can paint the motifs of a deity of my choosing later.
I'm a total newbie playing D&D but I'm not new to fantasy! I really love the genre and the character design potential. Also, D&D is a great mix of combining my love for roleplay, character design and worldbuilding.
What is the top left slot? And is this intended for you to have tangible equipment. Seems like a really good idea to make a WYSIWYG character sheet and then you can just have a generic miniature for the table grid.
I had started the piece as a generic inventory style I have seen in a few rpg games, like Diablo etc.I love how equipment inventories look in video games.
Your idea sounds really nice! It would add a lovely visual to the sheet.
When I started to populate the panels, the armour, head gear and weapons were fairly straight forward. I referred to a cleric I had rolled, with the acolyte background, so I put in a blank amulet/token. I then added a belt and I intend on adding boots and gloves. The armour used in DnD is referred to as 'all in one', boots, belts and gloves are not discussed unless they are special items. There are a lot of slots to fill, too many, unless you are going for generic cleric look, as you say, without using specific items that your character may have at that time. As for the top left slot, and any extra slots, they will have rings and a pair of earrings or a necklace.
Generally I want it to have a cleric look, to look at it and be in no doubt. I am considering putting a deep wooden frame on it, when it is done, so I can lay it face down and roll dice in the back of it, then hang it up on my wall when I am not playing my cleric in a game.
I looked at the pic before reading the entry. My first question was "Why is there a condom in there?" Then saw that it's a shield. :-P Once painted it will look more distinguishable.
Oh jaysus you are right! I can't unsee that now ha ha ha. Which deities from the Forgotten Realms dealt with fertility and growth? Maybe they would suit on the shield ha ha. Thank you, that observation is a tonic lol!
