Greetings all. Just be aware that the following post may have some spoilers for the dungeon of the mad mage. So just be aware.
One thing that i found really awesome from the dungeon of the mad mage was that on one level of the dungeon there was the hull of a spelljamer known as the scavenger.
For those that don't know a spelljammer is a ship that also can fly in space. For my own home brew game i had mixed a few old modules together and one of them being the expedition to the barrier peaks. Within that i elaborated that one of the reasons the ship crashed was it had impacted a spelljammer in flight many years ago. My players managed to salvage the ship from the interior of the crashed space ship and had been using the ship to get around. Coming up to the final session this weekend my group are about to fight the Tarrasque. Feeling they would want to take their space boat along with them. SO this needed a model.
The old spelljammer rules had this ship known as a Lamprey. Which is the design the Scavenger is based on in the mad mage and what i used for our game also.
The ship is based on a 3d printed model of the Nautilus from 20,000 leagues under the sea. Along with a few other random parts found on Thingiverse. I removed the top of the model in order to add in the internal section for the miniatures to walk around on. As well as mount the Ballsta's.
In terms of rules the ship uses the rules for a Galley from the Ghost of salt marsh book. But with the Helm of the Scavenger added in from the dungeon of the mad mage. Hopefully my players will survive along with this beauty fighting the Tarrasque. But we will have to wait and find out.
The rest of it was done using cardboard, green stuff and a hack saw. I had to remove the top section of the Nautalis and hollow it out. I placed the top deck inside made of cardboard. and used green stuff to cover up the mess i made cutting the top off with a hack saw.
Hope this helps anyone who wants to make one of their own. Enjoy.
Glade to see more folks trying to revive the SpellJammer ships and adventures. I'm also hoping to do a similar series. The Mad Mage also opens doors to a SpaceDock above Toril (or other homebrew world). Be Aware the there's a potential help in the Chult "Annihilation book" from a crashed Jammer ship. Also, I'm using concepts of finding special material from a crashed Nethrilese fortress with in the Neverwinter woods, with options to awaken the fortress to fly again. :)
Yeah we used the rules for the spelljammer helm found in the mad mage book for how to use this ship in space. Then just used the rules for basic ships found in salt marsh for how the ship aspect worked.
Also I blended one of the smaller ship miniatures in me Blendathon spectacular this week :D

This looks awesome. Do you plan on releasing this on thingiverse?
wow this is a late reply. Sorry about that. This ship like my Mechanical beholder was made up of multiple different things i found on Thinigyverse.
The body is of course the Nautalis. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3400494
The fins are from the "Dark elf space boats" https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3696767
The Ballistas were from here. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1836165.
The hatch was this. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3219297
The gear work was from this https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:289150
