i have noticed that a lot of the stuff i find in the PHB is not actually listed here in the compendium, i.e. warlock and its patrons... only one of the 3 are listed. but there are others in other books as well. will all this be added and fixed later in the Beta?
Thank you for your post - we appreciate people taking the time to give us feedback.
During the beta test of D&D Beyond, we'll only be including content that is freely available in the D&D 5th edition SRD and D&D 5th edition Basic Rules and will not include additional content from a Commercially Released Book or Supplement.
All of the remaining published content from the PHB, DMG, MM and other D&D 5th edition books will be added to D&D Beyond for product release - the cost for accessing this material has not yet been announced.
This may have already been posted, but my wish is to have the playtest material from Unearthed Arcana, available in the Character Builder. It is such a pain to have to constantly have to print out all these different things just to make sure you have what you need for your class or race on hand. I am part of 2 separate campaigns where on one I play a Mystic and the other an Artificer.
There are 3rd party "Character Builders" out there, but they always EXclude the Unearthed Arcana material. But i would LOVE to see it added to the Official Character Builder, And maybe, MAYBE, if you officially release these playtest materials with changes, you can keep the old material as "Variants". ^_^ I love making quirky and strange characters and your Unearthed Arcana builds always help with that. If they can all be in one place, that would just be the bee's knees!
We probably won't get them for the Beta, but maybe the free stuff could be added in live. I think right now they picked SRD and Basic Rules for the player test so they can quickly put information in and then testing of the foundation can be done before the cram the databases with a plethora of stuff. I am thinking there is a version behind the scenes with more info in it already as they are sure the initial stuff thrown at us to test is working right. This way when it is the right time to give us more they just roll it into the beta or if for live only they do it then. This thing is going keep growing even after the initial product goes live and there are some cool things they are saving for live that will build on what we are testing. So maybe UA stuff will get in or maybe we'll have to use the homebrew to put it in. Depends on how they work that out, but a lot of people are asking about it. We can only wait and see for sure what they will put in the live version beyond the WotC publications they have already mentioned. They are working on lots of things with other places to make this something worthwhile and not just some ad hoc idea that flops by the end of the year.

I kind of feel really stupid for asking this, however, I can not seem to find a straight, or complete answer to this question. On the character classes, why is it that there is only one archetype? IE Cleric, where is my "Trickster" domain? Why is it only the first archetype listed from the PHB?

That is because only the contents of the SRD are currently available for use through D&D Beyond, and WotC decided to only put a single sub-class for each class into the SRD (because they aren't giving the entirety of 5th edition content away for free - just a good enough amount for people to get started playing, and probably get hooked, with)
My biggest request for the character sheet would be having a form-fill-able modifier for each field (ie. AC auto calculates, but has a text box for a bonus modifier) This way the player can add to stats whenever they gain a temporary bonus (like Mage armour for example).
The other request would be for a house rule button (like is already on some pages) to allow you to break any restrictions placed on classes (ie. give a character any spell, any proficiency, any feature, etc.)
Look, I think temporary bonuses, hit points, etc. should go into campaign/combat management; the character sheet should interface with said management providing its information, but temporary things should be maintained separately so that not only the values (+d4 to attack and saves from Bless, for example) but also the duration (while the cleric concentrates, up to 1 minute/10 rounds) can be tracked.
There have been a lot of great ideas and suggestions posted in this thread, but the more that people want to add, the less I want to use it. The more bells and whistles that are added, the less functional a thing tends to become in my experience. But hey! I am old and still know how to use pen and paper so if the final result is unappealing then I have lost nothing. Just wanted to put my 2 cents in.
I know that Adventurers Leauge is a thing, so will we get an updated character section with all legal classes or with the stuff that Wizards of the Coast has published out. I want to be able to play all of the monster races sometime
I am new to D&D but something that would be helpful as someone who plays a wizard having the ability to click on the spell and then know what and how it works would be incredible.
So there's this automated PDF character sheet on DMs Guild. Which basically has all the features I could ever want, but I might be able to think of a few more things. Like randomized creation, or alternate formats or summary pages...

Only SRD content is going to be included in the beta. There's a note to this effect on the Compendium landing page (click the big Compendium icon/link, at the top of the page).
Also, note that the SRD is not the same as the PHB, DMG, and MM. It's the free stuff and could be considered the "basic" version of 5E. It only has one subclass per class, one feat (just enough to illustrate they exist), no critters that are considered IP (beholders, illithids, etc.), so on and so forth.
I am not a mod, nor do I work for Curse, WotC, or otherwise have any privileged info. That said, I would not expect to ever see anything beyond the SRD as free content, even if some of the tools (Character Manager) are made publicly accessible.
There have been a lot of great ideas and suggestions posted in this thread, but the more that people want to add, the less I want to use it. The more bells and whistles that are added, the less functional a thing tends to become in my experience. But hey! This is why there have been suggestions to be able to chose how sophisticated you want your char sheet to be form a straight fillable like several options out there have to one that lets you modify the snot out of it. LOL! All I know is they have hinted at the character sheets having things we have not even put on this wish list. I'm hoping we have some nice options that allow for ease of the need to print and do simple stuff to the full fun of fully digital that integrates with the campaign manager.
Now someone in the last day or so said they wanted temporary stuff not to be on the character sheet but in the campaign manager, but this would not work for players that are using the character sheets here to make the character but it is not connected to a campaign. They still need a spot to put the temp points and remove them when done if they want to do the sheet control digitally.
To sum up we have people that want:
Simple and easy to fill in sheets that are easy to print out for each game (no digital use during a game)
Simple sheets geared to class to not have all the other stuff in them
Automated - you put in class it automatically takes out what you don't need to see, like spells for a barbarian.
Customizable to the point you can even rearrange where things show up to your own liking and it has the automation to help clean the sheet up to only what you need.
Most people want the digital format to pop up the tooltips on skills, spells, etc., which I bet it will since we can do that in the forums and makes it easier when gaming. I am also sure it will have integrations with the campaign mode when that is added because I think it would be silly if there was not an option for this.
So considering we have people wanting different types and the hint we have not even thought of some of the things that we will find in a character sheet, it will be fun to see what they really do. Once they are out we can test them to death and see what has to be done to make use of them smooth and easy for the majority. They won't make us all happy, but it will probably make most of us happy.
And I think that they should come out sooner than later only because this thread is so long we really don't have time to see what has been posted or not posted even if we have been here from day one watching. ;) I can feel for the new people that don't want to slog through 17 pages of stuff!
((And why is my numbered list showing as a bullet list when i'm in edit mode. At least it shows up right when posted LOL))
From what I have seen so far in the Races, it all looks great. But you need to add the Drow to the Elf subrace as it is in the PHB. It has stats and is a playable race.
Thank you for your post - we appreciate people taking the time to give us feedback.

The website is in beta and only has the free content as of now. Players handbook carries all the free stuff and more... So this site for now won't have stuff like Drow or barbarian totem paths, etc
I don't know if my character will be able to be added at all because I play a Beastfolk (Bat)/Blood Hunter-Order of the Venomblood (the Monk/Warlock hybrid). I'm not sure if those were add-ons or homebrews. Would those be available in the Character Sheet Builders?

You might have to wait until Phase 3 (homebrew) of the Beta test, but yeah, you should be able to build your character in D&D Beyond.

Do we know if homebrew sharing will also be free, btw? I know that making and storing your own stuff will be, but do we have any info about how we'll be able to share it, to what extent, and if it will be pay-walled?
I would be fine with only being able to access stuff that is on the DMsGuild for free (other than paying the person who provides it, obv), as long as I can share my homebrew stuff with a small number of other users (ie, my group), and as long as I get full access to anything anyone wants to share if I'm a subscriber.
